16.01.2022 A gem of our region is certainly the village of Tyalgum and the fantastic stores within. You'll find great places like @flutterbiescottagecafe @tuscanytyalgum @soulfirecocoagenesis and many more within. As one of the highlights on our Food & Farm Road Tour, featuring a delicious lunch (and a couple of drinks), we love it every time we head through, and we think you will, too. Shopping, food and beautiful natural scenes await. If you would like to join us here, meet the local...s and enjoy excellent food, then how about coming on one of our Treasures of the Tweed tours? It's a great day out you will remember for years to come. 15.01.2022 Welcome to #WollumbinWednesday The sacred mountain of Wollumbin is located in a warm subtropical rainforest approximately 120 kilometers south of Brisbane in the state of New South Wales. Rising to 1156 meters (3793 ft), it is a holy place to many Aboriginal Communities. The mountain remains a place of cultural and traditional significance to the Bundjalung people and is the site of different ceremonies and initiation rites. In Aboriginal legend, Wollumbin was a giant bird, ...speared by a warrior. That fatal spear is still visible as a point on the summit. Other legends say fighting warriors cause the lightning and thunder often observed on the mountain. Captain James Cook gave Wollumbin the name Mount Warning in May 1770. It was a landmark to 'warn' mariners of offshore reefs that are found in the area. Wollumbin-Mount Warning is the remnant central plug of the Tweed shield volcano, one of the largest and best examples of an erosion caldera in the world. Wollumbin-Mt Warning became a National Park in 1967 and was added to the United Nations World Heritage list in 1975. A steep and winding path leads to the summit of the mountain where a viewing platform is located and the roundtrip hike is approximately 9 kilometers. Outside the nearby town of Nimbin is another Aboriginal sacred place known as the Nimbin Rocks. An Aboriginal Dreamtime story relates that the word Nimbin is probably derived from the name of Nyimbunji, a shaman with great supernatural powers who once ruled the land for many miles around. He had more power than other men in the area and when people needed food, rain or other things they would go to him. He was generous, wise and kind and would visit the tribal areas to make sure everyone was all right and that they were following the rules and laws. The rocks are still associated with Nyimbunji. 15.01.2022 One of the best experiences we can offer to our guests, and the experience we are most known for, is cruising along the waterways of the Tweed Valley and showcasing the incredible natural beauty this region has to offer. The Rainforest Seafood Cruise (and we recommend getting the fresh local seafood) is a journey that the whole family will enjoy. Just like Vanessa F (via TripAdvisor) did... "Wonderfully relaxing and exciting cruise. Staff were very friendly and helpful and t...he talk was fascinating, especially to learn about the history of the areas and the Green Cauldron and the local aboriginal medicines found in the rainforest. Very flexible option with tour as well and kind offer of complimentary wine onboard. We loved it and would do it again in a heartbeat! Thoroughly recommend causing this beautiful part of the world!" Our next cruise launches January 17th and running regularly throughout the month so if you want something different to do with the kids or looking for a relaxing way to spend the day, then how about joining us? 14.01.2022 How does cruising along the Tweed & Rous Rivers at sunset sipping of Bubbles & Brews sound? Pretty appealing, right? 14.01.2022 This week on Wildlife Wednesday, we take a look at the humble, sometimes awkward, pelican! These guys are always a crowd favourite when they come gliding in during our Rainforest Seafood Cruises. It's a graceful sight seeing them skim the top of the water and then land with a splash to wait for an easy meal, with a little competition from the seagulls. Have you ever seen a baby pelican on the coast though? There's a reason young ones are a rare sight, and that's because these... birds migrate and breed inland. Have you seen us using Tweed Escapes now? It's an exciting new brand and we want to let you know, this page will be merging with Tweed Escapes soon so we can share all of the exciting new products and experiences we have coming! #WildlifeWednesday #TweedEscapes #ExperiencesInNature

13.01.2022 #WollumbinWednesday Thanks to Russell Logan from Coodjingburra H.O.M.E for sharing this story with us. Wollumbin & the Turkey... (Why turkey’s can’t fly) "A long time ago, turkeys could fly great distances. One day a turkey & other birds were talking & having fun, then a giant bird flew up & chased them all away. They were so frightened, they just kept flying. The turkey flew all the way to the top of the great mountain (Wollumbin). He stopped to rest. Then while he rested was hit in the head by a spear from a warrior & because of his injury, he could no longer fly great distances. Wollumbin (the warrior chief) was angry that the other warrior had hurt the turkey & another great battle began..." We hope you enjoy this traditional story of the Mountain, Wollumbin.

13.01.2022 This week for our #WildlifeWednesday feature, we want to turn the spotlight to one of the raptor bird species you will often see on-board our rainforest cruises. This is the Whistling Kite and it gets its name from its loud whistling call. It's a mid-sized bird-of-prey and to watch it fly above you is very impressive. The biggest difference between this and the Brahminy Kite we shared some facts about a few weeks ago is the lack of a white head and a body completely covered in brown feathers. You will often see these birds around our waterways and if you do, just stop for a moment and really appreciate how beautiful these birds are.

12.01.2022 This isn't the usual on #WildlifeWednesday but thought you might get a kick out of seeing these friendly cows from @huskdistillers Husk Distillers. As a favourite hangout of many, both locals and visitors, Husk make some incredible home-grown rums and of course, Ink Gin. It's also a favourite stop of the visitors on our road tours, any guesses as to why?? If you'd like to meet these friendly fellows for yourself, how about joining us on the Treasures of the Tweed Food & Fa...rm Tour! Find out more and availability here: https://bit.ly/3saEx9P #TweedEscapes #ExperiencesInNature #lovethetweed #visitnsw #lovensw #NewSouthWales #thetweed #wearegoldcoast #destinationgoldcoast #playgoldcoast #hellogoldcoast #seeaustralia #holidayherethisyear

01.01.2022 Here is a word from Fiona, one of the fantastic members of our team! Today I played tourist and experienced Tweed Escapes ‘Tweed Valley Food & Farm Tour’ first hand. Paddock views as we enjoyed Cheese tasting plate Tweed Valley Whey Farmhouse Cheeses, cheeky extra stop at coffee roasting Bastion Lane Espresso, Sipped Sparkling Rose Bliss Champagne with hearty lunch Flutterbies Cottage Cafe, farm talk, local produce & beer tasting Buck's Farm with the end of the day enjoyed ...watching the storm roll in over Husk Distillers sipping on Ink Gin tasting paddles. The day was picture perfect of every shade, a sky that just followed the green caldera from brilliant blue to the darkest of storms. Wonderful company, informative talks and stories that made the trip more enjoyable as we sat back in leather seated and comfort of the luxurious LDV and toured this wonderful region. It wasn’t complete without my basket of purchases #supportlocal #tweedescapes #lovewherewelive Thank you to all involved, I am so proud to be able to offer these tours to you too!! Call me to discuss and arrange your next trip with us 0422 405 011 - many smiles Fiona

01.01.2022 Jingi Wala Wahlu (hello and welcome) to Wollumbin Wednesday. Tweed Escapes want to share the stories of the mountain with you. In partnership with Coodjingburra HOME, we will bring you a deeper understanding and traditional culture of the region and the iconic landmark that is Wollumbin. To start our first story, here is Wollumbin The Warrior Chief... "The spirits of the mountains were warriors. The warriors would have great battles. They would cause lightning & thunder when they went to battle. Wollumbin was the warrior chief, the greatest of all & when he won his last battle, he laid down to resthis work was done. You can see his face from different angles when you look toward mountain from the north. You can also see the scars on the mountain from the wounds of the warriors when they went to battle....& if you look really close, you can see the faces of the other warriors too."
