09.01.2022 Ok 15 of May 2016 the Melbourne Tweed Ride Returns. Tell mother you will be late for tea!

08.01.2022 Melbourne Tweed Ride including some iconic Melbourne cycling history. Meeting at The Hangar Cafe on the corner of Fitzroy and Gurtrude St in Fitzroy at 10am, w...ith a 10:30am departure, please don't be late and if you want coffee or brunch allow time! The ride will then take us up Gurtrude street to the exhibition building where we will stop and someone will speak about the cycle racing that was held there at the Exhibition Track. Next we will ride make its way to the MCG to discuss the huge cycling events they held there starting from the late 1800's and then across to Olympic park for another place of significance. Then we will wander along the river to the Mitre Tavern for lunch via a quick stop at the end of Elizabeth St where all the bike shops and bike builders where located the early days. There will also be a discussion at the Tavern about this iconic Pubs place in cycling history. When: Sunday the 24th June 10am with a 10:30am departure, no "dilly dallying"! Where: Meet at the Hanger Cafe on the corner of Fitzroy and Gurtrude st, in Fitzroy How Far: About 15ks.. ish... What to wear: Tweed of course, or some sort of vintage outfit. What to ride: Vintage is the them, however safety is first, please ensure you can ride comfortably in traffic and tight places. There will be a lead rider and a tail rider, each person who is in second position at the time will be asked to stop at at any significant place to wait for the tail rider, this ensures everyone gets through safely and so we all know where to go. Once the second rider spots the tail rider, they can rejoin the group so if you feel uncomfortable waiting at an intersection then don't ride directly behind the leader. Please ensure you let myself know on the below contact details as we need to ensure everyone's noted in attendance for insurance reasons. Safety is always a consideration we think of in doing these rides, often they are quite casual and organised by a community passionate about riding. We can't always help the unpredictability of individual skill of riders, drivers, pedestrians or any possible danger as it is all public space and roads. At the end of the day safety is the individuals responsibility, please ride within your means and be respectful.
