22.01.2022 "Billie" the Osprey was found on the ground, thin and quiet in demeanour. Thankfully she was rescued by a Tweed Valley Wildlife Carer and taken to @currumbinwildlifehospital for treatment. 4 weeks later, Billie has now been released. Photos are before & after rehabilitation. Thank you to all involved.... #kingscliff #cabarita #bogangar #pottsville #cudgen #cudgera #hastings #tweed #thetweed #tweedcoast #tweedshire #wildlife #australianwildlife #wildlifecarer #wildliferescue #australia #helpingourwildlife #wildliferelease #osprey #raptor See more

In lieu of gifts this Christmas, we thank you for choosing to offer financial support to Wildlife affected by human impact, bushfires and drought. Your support will help to provide much needed equipment, medical supplies and food for rescued native animals like King. 100% of the profits raised are donated directly to Tweed Valley Wildlife Carers. YOU WILL RECEIVE: A postcard style gift certificate in the mail to add to any Christmas card or gift. Thank you.

17.01.2022 Repost Green Heroes Magic happened in our garden last night! This little tawny has been in care for over a week with a guarded prognosis. Last night, when this dear old wild bird came to visit again, we let them be together. The little one came to life - vocalising and flapping around whilst the elder of the two took to catching food and feeding him. I took this picture when I found them this morning. Whilst I will keep caring for and feeding this little one...I do have my fingers crossed that this magic lingers longer.

16.01.2022 As the warm days continue, please keep in mind that our wildlife also feel the heat! Doing these 5 simple things, may be the difference between life and death: 1. Leave water out. Place a shallow dish/saucer of clean water in a nearby shady, low tree branch and shrub. Bowls or ice-cream containers can also be used, remembering to place a stick in these allowing any trapped animals to make their way out.... 2. Clean water daily. Simply clean the dish and replenish the water. 3. Cover your pool. Or closely monitor to ensure no animals have found their way in there. 4. Keep an eye out for heat-stressed wildlife. If you spot an animal in distress, please call us immediately on 0266724789. 5. SAVE OUR NUMBER, we are your 'go to' contact for wildlife related matters in the Tweed. We are always happy to offer advice. Remember, water should never be poured directly into an animals mouth. This may cause implications to their health. Thank you. #tweed #thetweed #tweedcoast #tweedshire #wildlife #australianwildlife #wildlifecarer #wildliferescue #australia #helpingourwildlife #heat #waterforwildlife

13.01.2022 Warning! There’s been an increase in snake sightings with the weather warming up!

12.01.2022 Over the last few months Tweed Landcare and Tweed Valley Wildlife Carers have been working with two landholders to restore the bush and provide habitat for wild...life on their fire impacted properties at Terragon, near Uki. Within the last two days a significant component of the project has been completed with the installation of 12 carved hollow log homes and 20 nest boxes. These wildlife homes will supplement the habitat lost during the fire and greatly support wildlife return. A nest box is an enclosure built especially for animals to nest, raise their young, roost or shelter in. It mimics natural hollows and provides wildlife with a comfortable and safe place to rest in and raise their young. Many of our native animals need hollow homes. The boxes installed are for a range of native wildlife that are known in live in the area and need hollow logs to live in like: kookaburras, gliders, possums, owls and parrots. We will be monitoring the nest boxes for activity using a specially designed nest box camera and red- light spotlight surveys at night for nocturnal animals. Evidence such as scats, pellets, tracks and wildlife calls will also be used to determine the nocturnal and arboreal species on the property. Arboreal species are creatures who spend the majority of their lives in trees. This project is supported by WIRES Landcare Wildlife Relief Recovery Grants Program , Landcare Australia Large Grants Program 2020 and the Stone & Wood Brewing inGrained Foundation. Thank you Habi-Tec for the installation of carved hollows and nest boxes! See more

11.01.2022 As the storm season evolves, young wildlife may need our support. In wet and windy weather, baby birds and young mammals like baby possums, bats and gliders may... fall from nests. Spring is the time when weather conditions can change from week to week. It is also the time of year when newborn native wildlife is at their most vulnerable. Following heat events and storms, these youngsters often injure themselves falling from nests. They also may fall victim to attacks from other wildlife or domestic pets when they are on the ground or become separated from their parents. What can you do to help? Should this happen in your back yard, you can look up your local wildlife rescue group or carer who can advise you further on the basic steps to support the animal you have found. Need more help? Download and use the IFAW Wildlife Rescue App to find your closest wildlife rescue group or carer. These experienced volunteers will be able to assist you with any help you need and advice when it comes to Australian wildlife.
