11.01.2022 The inaugural @goodlife_permaculture goat keeping course happened yesterday. Fabulous conditions at @fat_pig_farm! It was great to see what impact goats can have on woody weeds. And to hang out with a paddock full of goat kids- perfect situation to talk about all things goaty for a day!
10.01.2022 Bedtime story for the kids last night was most of the ‘Three Sisters’ chapter of Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer. We finished it over breakfast- by about 8:37 we were soaking corn seed. I last tried a three sisters bed about 9 years ago and the beans outgrew the corn and I mollycoddled all with no great success-but I suspect that I started on the early side and the corn wasn’t quite happy with the cold evenings. Also I don’t care! I’m trying again. with gifted corn... seed from @provenancegrowers, self saved butternut originally from a neighbour (and couple of other seedlings I ran out of room for), and a motley mix of beans including some pretty exciting babies from @angel_spit_ Can’t help myself. I won’t yet invite anyone to the three sisters potluck at the other end just yet but the soil is ready, there’s a mere 6 or so jobs to get seeds in the ground... See more

06.01.2022 I want to know what the 52000 escaped salmon are eating! People speak of finding 40 baby flounder, or cigarette butts and bottle tops. And they tell of the ghost salmon- when they’ve lived wild for long enough instead of being soft and pink, they are firm and white. send me photos of fish guts, fishy friends!
