25.01.2022 See what I did there? "Reboot 2020" ... "RE boot 2020". Ha! Im a hoot . Is anyone out there feeling like they need re-soling, re-heeling and also their elastic replaced? Goodness knows I am. It has been a ridiculously FULL ON first six months of 2020. As I write this Im thinking I really need to make an effort to reflect on all of my personal and business achievements. Getting a new law firm up and running, while working from a very full home has been a challenge. And tha...ts the case even though my husband well and truly delivers on the home/kids/extended family front. We definitely dont follow traditional gender roles aorund here. OK, so what am I proud of? establishing a COVID-9 employer support group with the wonderful Jo Alilovic @josjuggle hiring our first employee making the tough, but right, decision to get Ellis into daycare twice a week - he literally doesnt stop and we needed some help coming together with an inspiring bunch of local business women to help grow our community helping 30 farm, food and family client get confident about their legal stuff What are you proud of? Id love to hear from you, post below. And remember, even if it was a complete shitshow (and it was, at times), theres still 6 months left of this year, and its the start of a new financial year. Plenty of time to #reboot2020

23.01.2022 Im loving working with Northern Rivers Community Foundation as a board member and being able to support the work of some great Northern Rivers community groups.
23.01.2022 New South Wales, welcome to the party Complete enabling legislation is now in place for New South Wales. Western Australia, Tasmania and South Australia have not implemented the Code of Conduct for rent reduction but have frozen all rent increases and landlords are not able to terminate leases for failure to pay rent. ... In the Australian Capital Territory, Northern Territory, Queensland and Victoria we are still waiting on regulations. This approach to implementing the Code of Conduct has been really confusing for businesses. In general, for each State and Territory, there have been 2 elements required for full implementation of the Code of Conduct: - first of all an Act is introduced creating powers to implement regulations - secondly, a Regulation is introduced which actually makes it all work. SIgn up here to be kept up to date. https://twinebl.com/covid19 Edited to amend wrt WA.
22.01.2022 Posted @withregram @njwcommercial I had the great pleasure of working with my friend @twine.business.law over the last two weeks. . Cara turned a lease around on a very tight time frame for us. Which was no easy feat with existing deadlines and in house legal teams to liaise with. . We achieved an amazing result for our Client and I very much enjoyed the ease of working with someone experienced in Commercial matters. Not to mention the opportunity to work alongside a woma...n I admire, who Im fortunate to also call a friend. . Thank you for this gorgeous delivery today Cara. It should be the other way around. We simply wouldnt have achieved what we did with anyone else on our team. X #grateful #twinebusinessandlaw #njwcommercial #graftoncommercialrealestate #womeninbusiness #radbossladies See more

Im doubling this to 4 available this coming week. Last week I talked with:... a small business trying to work out how to stay open while complying with social distancing requirements, and a farmers market moving online and into home delivery It is so rewarding being able to help businesses navigate these uncertain times. No matter what your question, you can book in for an absolutely free 15 minute chat with me. https://calendly.com/twinebl/15min

14.01.2022 What are your thoughts? In my view, the National Cabinet has delivered a fairly balanced commercial relief package. It does not involve any direct funding by government, rather it will be Landlords taking on some of the financial pain caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Tenants will be required to justify their requests for rental relief, and will need to do their homework to make sure they get the best outcome. Landlords will not be forced to provide unjustified rental relief, but will be required to comply with very clear requirements about proportionate reductions. https://twinebl.com//commercial-rent-relief-transparency-a

09.01.2022 Silver lining Sunday We live on a great street. It is just amazing. Filled to the brim with lovely, thoughtful and kind human beings. There are lots of kids from 7months old (mine) and up. Today there was a Mexican wave of notes and gifts up and down the street between all the kids. They really showed us all how to social distance but not social isolate. ... What a wonderful reminder. little gifts being delivered by scooter
08.01.2022 Im sorting out my end of financial year donations. When I started this business I publicly committed to donating 5% of turnover to Indigenous run organisations that support Indigenous women. This year we are supporting Sisters Inside, the Healing Foundation and Aboriginal Legal Service NSW/ACT.... I know that the above organisations dont each tick all the boxes of my commitment, but the work that each of the organisations does is incredibly important. Sisters Inside is an independent community organisation based in Queensland, which advocates for the collective human rights of women and girls in prison, and their families, and provides services to address their individual needs. The Healing Foundation is a national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisation that partners with communities to address the ongoing trauma caused by actions like the forced removal of children from their families. Aborignal Legal Services NSW/ACT has been providing legal services to Aboriginal people since 1970. The ALS was founded as a response to injustice, and in acknowledgement of the importance of Aboriginal people designing and delivering services to our own communities.
07.01.2022 Theres a $26,000 grant up for grabs if youre a producer on the mid-North Coast. The project hopes to identify better ways to produce more beef per hectare through improved management, with a focus on pasture production, grazing and carrying capacity whilst still meeting the nutritional needs of cattle in an economically and environmentally sustainable way.
07.01.2022 Not sure what the ones slightly older than the golden demographic are but Im loving our move to regional NSW. The opportunity to find my own way and have a business that is truly of service just would not have existed if wed stayed in the city. https://www.abc.net.au//regional-australia-insti/12365964

04.01.2022 I am so thankful that we live in a time when being "not OK" is OK. Law is a profession that has strikingly high rates of depression, anxiety and other mental health issues. Ive noticed that, as a profession, we are getting better at being honest with ourselves and our colleagues about how we are doing. At the end of the day we are just people, and I think this sometimes gets forgotten when we "armour up" day after day to go into battle for our clients. Lets to sprinkle some kindness around, especially when dealing with stressful situations. It helps
04.01.2022 Great article found by my friend over at NJW Commercial.
04.01.2022 1.75% minimum pay rates increase from November 2020 onwards. (We will post another reminder closer to the dates). On 19 June the Fair Work Commission decided to increase the national minimum wage and minimum wages prescribed in modern awards by 1.75%. It was decided to have different effective dates for different industries due to the varysing impacts of COVID-19. ... This minimum wage increase kicks in for the Pastoral Award, the Horticulture Award and the Aquaculture Award from 1 November 2020. And for the Wine Industry Award, the General Retail Industry Award and the Nursery Award from 1 February 2021.
03.01.2022 What do I do? Well, earlier this year I helped an online food business understand how they could use a customer database they thought they had acquired when buying another business. My client had tried to do all the right things before the purchase, but in the rush to get the deal done had changed the contract terms themselves. ... It was also a fairly small purchase price - lots of upside but this meant they had decided not to do a comprehensive due diligence (checking to see if there were any problems with the accounts, legals and operations). My role: review the business purchase agreement and determine what comprised the business purchased by my client investigate the full history of the customer database research Australian Privacy laws and Company laws advise my client on whether they could, or could not use the customer database and any penalties that would apply for wrongful use Fortunately, I determined that my client owned and could use the database. It was a close run thing, and my client was very fortunate. Buying a business? I can help you make sure you are getting what you think you are paying for. Bought a business? I can help you out with issues that arise after the purchase. Book in for a complementary chat. https://calendly.com/twinebl/15min
03.01.2022 Thanks to @signcraft.cam for my awesome new car decal and @redalfalfadesign for the design. This has given me some great ideas for a focus on brand protection in the month of September. Watch this space. #brandgoals #myclarencevalley
