For businesses affec...ted by the fires in East Gippsland, the shire is running a Rapid Impact Survey to assist in getting an understanding of the economic impact across our region. 22.01.2022 It was a lovely morning to have a walk. Having made representations earlier this week, the good news is kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding and rowing are now a...llowed while all social distancing rules and gathering numbers must be observed. My video this morning mentions windsurfing after I received a verbal that it was ok, but the latest advice (as of this afternoon) is windsurfing and kite surfing are being (re)considered as they fall into the non human powered category, so best to hold off on them for now until clarified. Although all the information has not changed on line, it will, and I have direct email confirmation from the Chief Health Officer, Brett Sutton, that these activities (kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding and rowing) are OK. I have also made approaches to the Victorian Fishing Authority and Government for land based fishing, golf and other activities to be reviewed as they are allowed in every other state and territory under travel and other restrictions. Have a great day and dont forget to check on those who may need some help.

15.01.2022 WE ARE STILL OPEN Small changes have had to be made to keep our business running as close to normal as we can.... Take away meals and the bottle shop are operating as normal. We have had to remove some chairs in the bistro so PLEASE ring and book if you are wanting to come out for a meal as we are restricted to 100 people (this includes staff) Our main bar has also had restrictions placed on it, fortunately, our bistro is big enough to move happy hour into if necessary. So business as usual..... for now

13.01.2022 TWO MILLION DOLLAR GOLDEN TAG FISHING COMP STARTS SUNDAY The Victorian Governments golden tag fishing competition starts at one minute past midnight THIS Sunda...y in east Gippsland and North East Victoria. One thousand fish have been tagged in rivers, lakes and estuaries and the first 10 caught each carry a $10,000 prize. The remaining fish caught will be worth $2000 each. In Mallacoota Inlet, dusky flathead and black bream have been tagged. King George whiting, black bream and dusky flathead have been tagged in the Gippsland Lakes and flathead and bream have been tagged in Bemm River, Lake Tyers, Tamboon and Marlo. Fishing Minister Jaala Pulford said the fish have to be caught by hook and line, and anyone who catches a tagged fish will have to fill out a statutory declaration to try to stop people rorting the competition "So people need to complete a statutory declaration so that people arent doing the wrong thing but this competition is very much about giving people that extra reason to visit East Gippsland and north east Victoria to help fire affected communities," Ms Pulford said.

Congratulations to Andrew Fleming who landed this 33cm tagged bream in the Bemm River He...s been fishing the Bemm with family and friends for 40 years! They extended their recent trip to contribute more to bushfire affected tourism businesses whove been doing it tough! Andrew caught the tagged bream on a prawn under a float while fishing with his dad Keith Fleming, who has considerable fishing heritage himself. A good teacher too, it seems!
