24.01.2022 2017 Vincent Dauvissat Chablis AC A couple of hours on the bike deserves a reward. This Chablis is like it’s maker, initially reticent, lean, straight, precise but with inner power. It is brilliant.
23.01.2022 2018 Joseph Voillot Pommard Vieilles Vignes, expressive nose of violets, hint blood and iron. The palate has super balance, red fruited, fine tannins for Pommard, delicate but intense. Tannins a little more obvious with air. Will age beautifully 2018 Joseph Voillot Volnay Vieilles Vignes very feminine, all florals and red fruits, hint boudoir. The palate delicate and weightless, airy. More immediate than the Pommard and more seductive at this point. Interesting to revisit in 10 years!!! Lovely walk along the Yarra...
23.01.2022 2014 Matrot Meursault 1er cru Charmes, rich nose, ripe fruit, hint creme brûlée. The palate fully ready, round, no real drive or focus. Still acid in the finish, but for me advanced and showing hints of premox. 2008 Deux de Montille Puligny Montrachet 1er cru Champs Gains, fresh focused nose, minerals and steel, just a hint of honey shows this wine is not brand new. The palate is fine, citrus, lovely texture and excellent length. Still a pup but delicious. 2007 Grivot Clos de... Vougeot, really attractive nose showing sous bois, hedgerow and dark fruits. The palate quite refined, nice balance and elegant red fruits. One of the more ‘ready’ Grivots I have had. Lovely wine. 2001 Alain Michelot Nuits-St-Georges Aux Champs Perdrix villages. (Half bottle). Tiny hillside vineyard in the northern sector of NSG. Mostly 1er cru but this from villages section. Just a hint of sous bois, mineral and iron, red fruits. Incredibly youthful from 1/2 bottle. Refined red fruited palate with great mineralite, lovely acid drives the finish, can keep 10 years if you wish. Stunning for villages See more
22.01.2022 2018 Joseph Voillot Bourgogne Vieilles Vignes, wonderfully fragrant, red fruits, perfume and floral notes. The palate has elegance that is lacking in many 2018’s, intense but light on its feet and red fruits again. Gorgeous BR..... Bravo Jean Pierre Charlot et Etienne Chx!
22.01.2022 Domaine Joseph Voillot 2018 released next Tuesday 1st September at 6.30pm. Jean-Pierre Charlot in his 40 years associated with the Domaine believes 2018 to be the best wines ever produced...the critics agree. Neal Martin you will not find a Rugiens better than this in 2018 93-95 points. You have been warned! This Bourgogne rouge fresh off the boat is gorgeous.....
22.01.2022 Very pleasant night in Adelaide. 2008 Raveneau Chablis 1er cru Foret stunningly youthful, classic Raveneau nose, seashell, sea breeze, lemon and honeysuckle. Ripe, opulent but somehow linear as well. Brilliant line of acidity. A precocious pup! 2014 Thibault Liger-Belair Moulin a Vent, like Gevrey without tannins, lovely texture, powerful fruit, long finish. Impressive.. 1999 Perrot-Minot Chambolle Musigny 1er cru La Combe d’Orveau, very youthful, vibrant, plush but with wonderful texture. Whispering tannin. Sometimes I find this Domaine’s wines from the 2000’s overworked but this was a gem....
18.01.2022 Scopri- how good art thou??? Sensational food to match brilliant wines Augustin Cuvée CCXIV l’Air, wonderfully mineral, exquisitely textural and perfect with oysters. A heavenly experience. Bravo Marc Augustin! 1993 Pousse d’Or Santenay 1er cru Les Gravieres. Only a couple of dozen bottles left of Gerard Potel in the cellar. This wine shows iron, gravel, sous bois and red fruits, getting more lifted and fresher with air. The palate transcends Santenay, it is just a beautiful ...vigorous old Burgundy with plenty of upside. Lovely balance, increasingly fresh with air and lovely mineral texture. Blind I would have gone Gevrey, CSJ or Grand cru. Gerard Potel was an exceptional talent who left us way too early.... Was amazing with saffron risotto and Osso Bucco Fitting food and wine to celebrate a turning point in our lives! See more
18.01.2022 2014 Pascal Clement Chassagne Montrachet 1er cru Vide Bourse. White flowers, crushed rock mineralite, stone fruit. The palate has some of the richness of the neighboring vineyard Batard Montrachet but has great mineralite and lovely acid. Ageing slowly and gracefully. Great stuff, perfect for a Spring arvo in Melbourne Lockdown...
18.01.2022 2018 PYCM St Aubin Le Banc Less reduction than normal, a change in winemaking style apparent, very mineral, citrus fruits. Attractive. The palate is delightful, citrus again with lovely supporting acid. Not overly long, but quintessential St Aubin. I do love the village....
17.01.2022 1999 Leroy Bourgogne rouge Nice sous bois, bramble and dark fruited nose. The palate is developed, quite savoury, with the structure outliving the fruit. It’s nice.....not amazing. Sometimes a lottery with the Leroy BR, multiple bottlings with different cuvees. Some can be marvelous, but not this one. The risotto was super
17.01.2022 2010 Vincent Dauvissat 1er cru La Forest. Some colour, beautiful nose of honeysuckle, touch straw, sea breeze and oyster shell. The palate precise, straight, intensely mineral. Wonderful acid. Just super wine from my favourite Chablis producer (when I’m not drinking Raveneau)
14.01.2022 Perhaps the most underrated winemaker in Australia! Shaun Crinion is a superstar. Texture and length a highlight! Great Nepalese food 2018 Parigot HCdB Clos de la Perriere - stunning, vibrant cherry, lipstick and spicy nose. Blood and roses. Raspberry acid palate with length and drive. Texture again a highlight. Looks like high quality VR villages... Wow!!
14.01.2022 2009 Parigot Chassagne Montrachet 1er cru Clos St Jean, ageing gracefully and slowly, some buttery toasty characters accompany the mineralite on the nose. The palate has excellent acid for 2009 and is still youthful, white flesh fruits and richness. All in all, lovely 2018 Joseph Voillot Bourgogne rouge is a perfect example of how great 2018 can be... perfumed, red fruited nose, very attractive. The palate also red fruited, great intensity for this level but no sense of weight. Whispering tannin and delicious refreshing acid. Bravo Etienne Chx and Jean Pierre Charlot!!
13.01.2022 2014 Jean-Pierre Maldant Corton Charlemagne. Matchstick, crushed rock, a little reduction, meyer lemon and cold steel. The palate tightly coiled, very fine, white flesh fruit, predominately citrus, underlying mineralite and a long acid driven finish. What a lovely baby....
13.01.2022 A night of champagne examining single cepage. Some brilliant wines, Standouts included the Rose de Jeanne Cote de Bechalin, Glavier Genesis, Prevoteau Perrier Fut de Chene, both Augustin’s and the Heucq’s especially Les Roches. With the exception of the corked Miniere everything was high class. 2008, 2010 and 2014 Odoul-Coquard Gevrey Chambertin 1er cru Aux Combottes, lovely vertical. The 2008 just about ready, sous bois and enough fruit to cover the abundant acidity, the 2010 youthful and perfectly balanced, no crime to drink now but a long future. The 2014 has shed the clunkiness that many ‘14’s had and is perfumed, red fruited and beautifully balanced again. Starting to almost look like 2013, a long future. Not a blockbuster but a willowy brunette with real class.
12.01.2022 A couple of hours on the bike on a lovely Spring day deserves a reward... all within 5km of home 2018 Thomas Morey Bourgogne Blanc, smoky reduction, grapefruit and lemon pith, mineralite. The palate lithe, effortless, lovely penetration for this level. Feeling no pain
11.01.2022 2002 de Courcel Pommard 1er cru Les Fremiers. Murky colour, VA on the nose, hard. The palate lacks charm, very tannic. Unappealing. Reach for another bottle...... 2008 Joseph Voillot Pommard 1er cru Les Epenots. Red fruits, mineral, hint iron and touch of sous bois in the nose. The palate fine and long, 08 acidity and mineralite, but sufficient fruit to carry the high acid. Plenty of enjoyment now especially with some air but will improve for another 5 years plus. Lovely....
11.01.2022 2018 PYCM St Aubin 1er cru Hommage a Marguerite was a little dumb on the nose initially. Drunk over three nights, really expressive by day three, intensely mineral, lemon and lime. Lovely energy on the palate, textural and long. Noticeable less reduction, and all the better for that. Another example of how good 2018 whites can be
11.01.2022 Memories... our first import in 2010 included de Montille wines. we no longer work with them but if this wine is any indication sometimes wish we did. 2007 Deux de Montille St Romain, developing beautifully, dome oyster shell, sea breeze and honey. The palate, which was linear and rapier like in its youth is mellowing and filling out, lovely texture, hint of cream but still that classic 07 acid. Will live for a very long, especially under Diam... yum!
10.01.2022 2010 Domaine Parigot Meursault Le Limozin Old vines here. Stunning nose, struck match, reduction, wet stone mineralite and citrus, so youthful. The palate has energy to burn, vibrant acid and great texture. Combines opulence with linearity effortlessly. ‘Coche’ like! Super white Burgundy ageing slowly but wonderfully
10.01.2022 Just a beautiful, seamless, mineral palate, finesse and elegance. Wonderful stuff. Merci Victor Pugatschew!
09.01.2022 2018 Thomas Morey Chassagne Montrachet 1er cru Les Chenevottes explosive floral notes, mineralite behind, citrus. The palate is focused, taut, lovely acid for the vintage, with air the palate has depth and power but retains focus. Truly lovely... 2017 Berthaut-Gerbet Bourgogne Les Prielles, wild strawberries, hint brambles, delicate lovely palate, screams Pinot. Not long or complex but delightful and easy.
08.01.2022 Beautiful Spring Afternoon in Melbourne. 12 km run required sustenance... 2008 Deux de Montille Puligny Montrachet 1er cru Les Champs Gains’. Lovely aromatics from the get go, sea breeze, oyster shell, crushed rock, hints of citrus fruit behind. The palate is developing slowly but beautifully with some richness developing mid palate, a hint honey, but still the steely restraint of Puligny. Driving acid finish. Had problems with premox with these wines but this is a ripper....
07.01.2022 So called ‘lesser Grand crus dinner. Larmandier Rose very good, Vilmart badly corked 2017 JP Maldant Corton Charlemagne intensely mineral, very pure, wonderful acid and drive. 2017 Pascal Clement Corton Charlemagne also excellent but a little more winemaker input, richer mid palate (batonnage), also great finishing acidity, table preferred purity of the Maldant. 2009 Gros F & S, oaky, extracted, clumsy. Very poor. ... 2014 Odoul-Coquard Clos de Vougeot, beautiful mineral, floral red fruited nose. Lovely intensity, great balance, really rather elegant for CdV, fine tannic finish. Bravo Sebastien Odoul! 2005 Castigner Latricieres-Chambertin. Attractive nose showing a hint of development, nice fruit, not overly intense but attractive 2008 Arnoux-Lachaux Latricieres-Chambertin, really impressive, red and dark fruits and a hint of sauvage on the nose, great structure and really impressive fruit for 2008. Great wine that will definitely improve. 2006 Dujac Clos St Denis, perfumed, seductive, fine and mineral. Still juvenile but lovely balance and texture. Glorious! 2006 Amiot Clos St Denis, invariably pales in the comparison with Dujac. Nice nose, more mineral, less hedonistic. The palate lacks intensity, really more 1er cru like, lacks the balance of the previous wine, certainly more evolved. Ok. 2002 DRC Echezeaux, very badly corked...... 1999 DRC Echezeaux, Aubert Villaine has been quoted as suggesting this is the best Echezeaux ever produced by the Domaine. What I can say about the wine is that is highly perfumed, has great intensity and a silky seamless palate. Very long and still very young. One more bottle, I’ll keep it at least 10years. The 1963 Croft was hauntingly ethereal.... See more
06.01.2022 2018 Berthaut-Gerbet Bourgogne ‘Les Prielles’ shows the richness of the vintage. With air, red and dark fruit, mushroom, mineralite and hint of violets. The palate is plush, more red fruited, elegant with fine tannins. More a drink now (2-3 years) BR that has immediate appeal, lovely now 2013 Denis Berthaut Fixin En Combe Roy- Amelies first vintage. Just a beautiful nose, complex floral scents, pristine red fruit and newly turned earth. The palate is ageing slowly, just a hint of secondary development, lovely texture and an airy feel. Exquisite balance. I love 2013’s for their classic nature and balance. A very classic year... bravo Amélie Berthaut!
04.01.2022 2018 PYCM Pernand Vergelesses 1er cru Sous Fretille. Second bottle opened in a month, just to check. Allowing for the richness of the year I still see a change in winemaking here, less reduction, more immediate fruit pleasure. I think Phil Clark has commented on possible winemaking changes, thoughts from others. Personally I see more purity as a result. I like! 2019 Jean-Marc Millot Bourgogne Aligote Le Deux Terres. Raised entirely in amphora. Beautiful pure nose, lemon, w...hite flower, dusty mineralite. Pristine white citrus palate, great vibrancy and lovely acid. Drink over the next year or two with an enormous smile on your face for the sheer energy of the wine.. bravo Alix Millot! 2008 Odoul-Coquard Chambolle Musigny 1er cru (Sentiers, Fuees and Baudes). The nose shows pot pourri, hint sauvage and mineralite, the palate maturing nicely, red fruits, savory twist, very soft tannins and the pronounced acidity of the vintage. Drink over the next 2-3 years. Lovely See more
