25.01.2022 Thank you, Ian, Paul & Rick and goodby 2020.

23.01.2022 That terrible day 23rd January 2020 (returning to what was left of my house). Always to remember the brave American Pilots who tried to stop the bushfire on that terrible day Captain Ian Mcbeth, First Officer Paul Hudson and Flight Engineer Rick DeMorgan jr

23.01.2022 About 25 minutes of this documentary was filmed at my sanctuary. The koalas we rescued with Bear the koala detection dog (from the University of the Sunshine Coast), were released back into the wild 2 weeks ago. They are being gps tracked and are doing fine post release. James Fitzgerald - Trustee - Two Thumbs Wildlife Trust

21.01.2022 "Ian the koala" named in honour of Captain Ian Mcbeth

21.01.2022 Recently our students watched the documentary Bear, Koala Hero about a koala detecting dog who helped find dozens of injured and starving koalas after the fir...es of earlier this year. We were then fortunate enough to be invited to visit Two Thumbs Wildlife Trust to further learn about the impact of the 2019/2020 bushfires on the local koala population. Our students spent time creating some wonderful thank you cards for Bear, Romane, Celine and James. We are so proud of the sensible and respectful behaviour our students demonstrated during this wonderfully informative visit. Thank you James for having us. 20.01.2022 We were invited to Two Thumbs Wildlife Trust and the accident site for B-134. A super unique opertunity that we jumped on. I’ve attached pictures of the crash s...ite, but at the end of the photos as a precaution. It’s been cleaned up, so the pictures are safe. For context, Two Thumbs is the Koala rescue facility B-134 was trying to protect with their last drop. It ended up burning down, and we lost three friends. The story of James Fitzgerald rebuilding after the whole event has been making international media, and there is a documentary coming out about it. He has since named three rescued Koalas after Ian, Paul, and Rick. We didn’t walk away with any answers as to what happened. However we did get to look at the whole event from someone else’s perspective. It ended up being an important piece to the healing process. Thank you for all of your hospitality James

17.01.2022 It may be quiet on the fire front and it may be Christmas but it doesn't mean the training stops. Yesterday the new NSW RFS lead plane Fire Scan 201 also known ...as the 'Birddog' completed waterbombing drops at Richmond with Coulson Aviation - Next Gen Firefighting 737. It is likely that both these aircraft will be called upon in the coming months. See more

16.01.2022 Success! Our infamous Bredbo koala mate was rescued this afternoon! A big thank you to Gold Leaf Tree Services from Canberra who sent 2 tree climbers/arborists... at no charge to help with the koala rescue, Bredbo Landcare, Bredbo Men’s Shed, LAOKO, Australian National University, Wildcare and NSW Police who attended. And thank you residents of Bredbo and to the caller who amazingly spotted old mate in the first place (swooping magpies have a way of attracting attention!). This lucky koala will spend tonight at Two Thumbs Wildlife Trust with James Fitzgerald before being vet assessed tomorrow. A decision will then be made on his imminent relocation to a much safer abode (well away from a busy main highway!). A great team effort in a challenging situation.

15.01.2022 Stewart has been leading the rebuilding at my koala sanctuary since it was destroyed by bushfire in January and now someone has stolen his Ute. He needs it back please help

13.01.2022 A fantastic day out at Two Thumbs Sanctuary. James Fitzgerald and crew were very generous with their time and were very happy with the pictures. Still much work to do, but definitely heading in the right direction. #koalas #koalasanctuary #twothumbswildlifetrust

08.01.2022 Hi friends, today we went swimming at the numeralla river junction, near the village and found this poor creature under the water hooked on fishing line, with a... hook through its foot. It died, drowned. It's so important that you remove your line when you go fishing. Especially if it's been snagged on a log under water, that's where platypus feed and they will get tangled. If you're not prepared to get wet to retrieve your line don't go fishing. Also, don't leave set lines underwater. We want to keep more of our aquatic locals alive.

08.01.2022 An absolutely amazing fundraising effort from our End of Year Retreat raffles, games and donations. All of these raised funds are going directly to Two Thumbs Wildlife Trust

02.01.2022 Today we release Ian the koala back into the wild. Ian was named in honour of Captain Ian McBeth who came from the other side of the world to help us and tragically lost life on the 23rd of January 2020, when their firefighting plane crashed after dropping fire retardant on my koala sanctuary in an effort to stop the bushfire. A special thank you to Lieutenant Colonel Drew Cunnar US Air Force who released Ian the koala back into the wild and represented Ian’s wife Bowdie and family at the release today (they could not attend due to Covid-19).
