25.01.2022 As isolation restrictions are lifting this may be our last Iso Dinner Date Night for a while. Having lived and worked in Thailand for a number of years we thought we'd try a Thai dinner. We picked a few dishes that we could get the ingredients for and prepared all dishes and sauces from scratch. (no pre-made sauces or spice mixes used). The meal turned out rather well and the tastes were excellent. It's been a great experience attempting to cook a restaurant quality meal eac...h Saturday and we take our hats off to all the chefs out there that do this day in and day out. We hope all our friends in hospitality and our fellow workers in the Tourism industry will get through these times and emerge with renewed energy and determination. We look forward to supporting the Tasmanian restaurant and food scene again as restrictions lift. Regards Greg & Kerry (just a couple of home cooks)

24.01.2022 Last night was our fourth Dine In Date Night. This dining experience was inspired by a trip to San Sebastian. The food was great but we are looking forward to when we can go back to some of the great restaurants in Hobart again

23.01.2022 This fantastic looking dish is the Hotel Bruny Fifth Oak Farm twice cooked Chinese spiced pork belly. Served with jasmine rice, sautéed broccolini and a chilli caramel sauce. The hotel is open from 4.30 pm Monday to Friday and from 12 noon on Saturday and Sunday This pic and info was sent to me by The Hotel Bruny and I reckon it was worth the share. Will definitely get down there at some stage. #orfordsandahouse #tastourism #tasmania #eatingoutinhobart #tassiefoodguide

21.01.2022 Down in Hobert getting the car serviced with time to kill. Enjoying a coffee and cookie in this old style coffee shop. Great coffee and a delicious cookie. Now to think about lunch somewhere. #orfordsandahouse #tastourism #tasmania #eatingoutinhobart #tassiefoodguide

18.01.2022 Was down in Hobart today getting the car serviced and wanted a quick, tasty bite. Dropped into Sawak Cafe as it's been a long time since we had any Malaysian flavours. We weren't disappointed. Just shared a few simple dishes. Cheers to Team Sawak #orfordsandahouse #tastourism #tasmania #eatingoutinhobart #tassiefoodguide

17.01.2022 The Mercury is running a poll to find the best Veggie/Vegan restaurants in Tassie. Thought it was worth sharing the list. VOTE NOW: Tassie’s Best Vegan / Vegetarian Food In the next installment of our Best of Tasmania 2020 series we reveal 20+ vegetarian/vegan-friendly eateries that made the shortlist but who is Tassie’s best? VOTE IN OUR POLL NOW >>... When it comes to vegan and vegetarian friendly restaurants, Tasmania is about as friendly as it gets. When we asked Mercury readers to nominate the best veggie haunts, more than 150 readers were keen to put their favourites forward. In Launceston, VegOut Tasmania, Lotus Thai Vegan House, Mad Apple Cafe and Sweetbrew Cafe received nominations. Some regional inclusions also made the shortlist, including Mountain Mumma in Sheffield and The Olive Jar in Huonville. And there were plenty to choose from around Hobart with Little Lotus Cafe, Vegera and The Veg Bar all receiving a slew of nominations. Another cafe who received multiple nominations was Straight Up Coffee and Food in Hobart. Straight Up Coffee and Food is the best vegetarian/vegan cafe. They are also gluten free, wrote one reader. These ladies and their staff take great pride in their product. Just the best. Speaking to the Mercury this week about their business, manager Ebony Lucas said their root to tip approach to cooking is what makes them popular among Hobartians wanting to do the right thing for the environment and follow a ‘zero waste’ approach. For Sue Dixon, Thai Veggie Hutt in the Bank Arcade gets her vote. Fantastic Thai veggie lunches, always very popular. Love their food! she said. 16.01.2022 Decided to have a bit of French inspired food today so took a drive to the Coal Valley and visited Riversdale Estate to try the French Bistro. Service was great and the food full of flavour and quite authentic. All the beverages are from the estates vineyards as was the lamb. #orfordsandahouse #tastourism #tasmania #eatingoutinhobart #tassiefoodguide

16.01.2022 If you are driving up the East Coast the recently completed Boomer Creek Vineyard cellar door is definitely worth a visit. They have a fab pinot noir and other varieties. Their recently released Riesling grape based 'bubbles' is fantastic. #orfordsandahouse #tastourism #tasmania #eatingoutinhobart #tassiefoodguide

15.01.2022 Last Saturday night was our 5th Isolation Dinner Date Night. This time we went with a Hong Kong Theme. Having lived and worked there for a few years we gave a few of my favourite dishes a try. Another great night but we are REALLY, REALLY looking forward to coming down to Hobart and having a wonderful meal cooked for us.

15.01.2022 These guys sent this through to let everyone know they are back open.

14.01.2022 Interesting developments. Indigenous foods will mean we can truly have an 'Australian' food rather than fusion or Asian inspired, etc. There will still be a place for all our wonderful foods and cuisines but it will be great to have a range of foods we can showcase to the world as truly Australian.

14.01.2022 And this was our second Saturday nights eating at home dinner date night.

12.01.2022 This has to be the best value in town Ashmore Foods Tasmania

12.01.2022 As we are in lock down here at Orford Sanda House B&B we have decided to have a Dinner night every Saturday. This is our second one and was Greek inspired. Looking forward to being able to have a great dinner out in Hobart in the future

11.01.2022 And this was our Eat in home dinner from last Saturday. An Italian inspired menu with lots of hand made pasta and other lovely produce.

10.01.2022 Good morning fellow foodies. Kerry and I are travelling to FNQ for the winter. Currently in Melb checking out the casual dining scene. Here's a couple of cracking Pinot's we've been indulging in. Great with food. cheers to all.

10.01.2022 Finally got to drop into the Cascade Brewery Co Bistro last week for a quick spot of lunch. Great surroundings with wonderful sitting areas outside. The food was great and service was prompt. #orfordsandahouse #tastourism #tasmania #eatingoutinhobart #tassiefoodguide

09.01.2022 Had to race down to Hobart during the day to sign a few forms. Didn't have much time and walked past this little joint around 1.00 pm and had a great chicken dish. Was quite good for a quick bite. Will have to try their dumplings at some stage. #orfordsandahouse #tastourism #tasmania #eatingoutinhobart #tassiefoodguide

08.01.2022 Further to the post yesterday here's what we had for lunch at The Deck on level 4 of the Crowne Plaza Hobart. Food was fantastic, great service and a great vibe. All in all one of the best Friday lunches in a long time. All these tasty morsel were washed down with a Willie Smith Organic Apple Cider and a Devil's Corner Cellar Door bubbles. We probably had 1 dish too many for 2 people but wanted to try nearly everything. Pity the market fish wasn't available. Bookings strong...ly recommended #orfordsandahouse #tastourism #tasmania #eatingoutinhobart #tassiefoodguide See more

07.01.2022 Did you know you can now book for just drink sittings at The Glass House Hobart? That's right! Head over to thier website and select 'bar' and book your next 5 o'clock session! Cheers #tastourism #tasmania #eatingoutinhobart #tassiefoodguide

07.01.2022 Last week we went to Blue Eye Seafood restaurant with a couple of friends. This restaurant is a bit of an institution in Hobart. We had a great meal and shared a couple of deserts. The seafood was fresh and the service prompt and efficient. #orfordsandahouse #tastourism #tasmania #eatingoutinhobart #tassiefoodguide

06.01.2022 Here's an interesting ingredient I haven't come across before. Will have to find out if any restaurants in Hobart use it.

06.01.2022 Just had a fantastic lunch at The Deck Crowne Plaza Hobart. Well worth the visit. Will post more details later. Great service, great ambience and a perfect Friday lunch hang out. #orfordsandahouse #tastourism #tasmania #eatingoutinhobart #tassiefoodguide

05.01.2022 Great news. Always great to see restaurants opening for lunch as to me Hobart's lunch scene is very limited compared to evening options. Hope we all get out and support these guys at Lizzie & Lefroy and enjoy a great lunch #orfordsandahouse #tastourism #tasmania #eatingoutinhobart #tassiefoodguide

04.01.2022 Some great advise. Thanks for the share @ #weeatlocal.

04.01.2022 New Cascade Brewery Bar to open offering the best of Tassie food and beer Australia’s oldest brewery has a new offering to tempt your tastebuds with a new look brewery bar. Will you be getting down to check it out? Jessica Howard, Mercury Subscriber only... August 13, 2020 5:00am Cascade Brewery swapped beer for water as they produced canned water to donate to bushfire affected areas of Australia. Hobart’s Cascade Brewery looking forward to growing under new owner Asahi Restaurant reno blends heritage with heart THE team behind one of Tasmania’s best loved brands and attractions has used the pandemic downtime to redeveloped a space which they hope will do locals proud. Set within the grounds of South Hobart’s iconic Cascade Brewery, the new Cascade Brewery Bar will serve up freshly brewed beer on tap as well as a menu using the best local produce. The bar itself is 12 metres long and has been crafted from raw brass and Tasmanian oak. Formerly known as the Cascade Brewhouse, the redevelopment was designed by the Cascade team in collaboration with Hobart firm JAWS Architects and built by local contractors, Macquarie Builders. Cascade hospitality expansion manager Joss Jenner Leuthart said the team wanted to create a place that celebrated the heritage of what is Australia’s oldest brewery. Everyone involved in the project had a story of celebrating at Cascade and this inspired us to create a space worthy of Cascade’s unique Tasmanian heritage, he said. Our new bar pays tribute to the history of Cascade and its setting within the original homestead. We haven’t got interstate visitors at the moment, but when it’s safe to travel again, we’d love to see the Cascade Brewery Bar on the ‘must do’ list of every traveller to Tasmania. Tasmanian tasting plates will be among the highlights of the new menu, with meat and vegetables to be wood-smoked in-house in a nod to the business’ first few years as a sawmill in the 1820s. The brewery had to temporarily cease keg production when the hospitality industry was shut down due to social distancing measures enforced at the height of the coronavirus pandemic, but restarted production in late June. The new bar opens to the public tomorrow [FRI]. #orfordsandahouse #tastourism #tasmania #eatingoutinhobart #tassiefoodguide

04.01.2022 Great to see some new guys giving it a go in NoHo. This is an article from the Mercury. Will have to check it out when I am next in the area IT’S one of the toughest times in history for the hospitality industry, but that has not stopped a trio of new cafe owners from pursuing their dream. Rohit Kumar, Jyoti Janoti and Anshu Bisht opened Marigold Cafe and Restaurant on Thursday for takeaways and dine in for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week.... Marigold is located on the busy Elizabeth St restaurant strip in North Hobart at the former Old Peking Chinese Restaurant and next door to Annapurna, where Ms Janoti worked for the past nine years. Mr Kumar said the cafe’s menu was affordable and used fresh, local produce as much as possible. He said they took over the lease of the property in January and with restrictions on dining in recently lifting, the trio decided to jump into the deep end. We were thinking maybe it wasn’t the best time to open, but after doing renovations in March and already paying rent, we thought we may as well take the risk and open, Mr Kumar said. Now we can get to know the customers and they can get a taste of our food, drinks and coffee. #orfordsandahouse #tastourism #tasmania #eatingoutinhobart #tassiefoodguide

04.01.2022 It's "Champagne Day" this Sunday 18 October, so my friends at Vinomofo have written an awesome article on matching your fave bubbly to your fave fast food! and i reckon they are on the money. We will be in Hobart tomorrow and reckon this might be a good lunch idea. Stay tuned #orfordsandahouse #tastourism #tasmania #eatingoutinhobart #tassiefoodguide #champagne #vinomofo

03.01.2022 This looks great. I'm sure the Meru Miso guys will do very well. At home we love cooking with miso and can't wait to try this product

03.01.2022 One of our followers shared this post. Makes for interesting reading and it is certainly 'on trend' for Australia. We see local and indigenous foods becoming more and more relevant and important as Australia cements in place in the culinary world #orfordsandahouse #tastourism #tasmania #eatingoutinhobart #tassiefoodguide

03.01.2022 A terrible story to begin with but a fantastic idea and execution later in the article. We reckon there will be major changes to the way restaurants will operate in the future.

03.01.2022 This was our French inspired dine in date night dinner from last Saturday. The French Onion Soup was spectacular but then again it took 2 days of prepping.

02.01.2022 Will definitely have to try Van Bone Restaurant out based on this article. #tastourism #tasmania #eatingoutinhobart #tassiefoodguide

01.01.2022 Dropped into Wattlebanks in Richmond for a quick bite. The Arancini balls were fab. The fried chicken with Asian slaw is always a winner. The fish'n'squid was good but way too many potato chats. The seafood chowder looked fab as did the chicken pie. #orfordsandahouse #tastourism #tasmania #eatingoutinhobart #tassiefoodguide
