25.01.2022 Jimmy and the kids explored the side of the hill we were camped next to and found a nice little spot by the creek they named ‘Chilly Hollow’. We spent a lot of time down there whittling wands and weapons The kids spent much of the weekend discussing and battling spells. 22.01.2022 First swim of the season. The water was so refreshing and lovely and Miss 6 was SO excited and happy. Actually, so was I! Master 12 thought the water would be too cold and chose not to bring towel and swimmers - he pretty much regretted that decision as soon as we got there. Lol. We discovered none of Miss 6’s swimmers fit her anymore, except this swimming top she found in the garage - it’s size 6-12 months It’s not the only piece of clothing she’s been wearing since she was a baby!
21.01.2022 Miss 9 got Forbidden Island for her birthday. It’s a co-operative game and just like a cool puzzle to solve together. Lots of strategy and problem solving skills in this one. #gameschooling #unschooling

14.01.2022 Ahhhhhh the serenity! We’ve just returned from 4 days camping out at the bottom of a farm with no reception. It was so peaceful and relaxing and we weren’t ready to come home. Oh, except for me looking forward to my bed. You’ll notice our camp mattress on the left (which already had a hole in it anyway) standing up drying in the last of the sunshine - when we unrolled it the sheets and mattress were all mouldy!! Luckily it was able to be scrubbed off the mattresss, but it’s going straight to the tip today. The sheets were ceremoniously burned on the camp fire There’s no Cargill camping without some kind of small disaster, right? #camping #tentlife #familytime #serenity #youcamp
14.01.2022 The skies were amazing today. There were soooo many people out there, just hanging in big groups, totally enjoying the connection with other humans again. True connection is life.

12.01.2022 We’re finally home from a week of camping (2 separate unschooling camps in a row). We had a great time at both and all completely but happily exhausted! Also, instead of just driving home today we stopped off halfway to join our friends for yet another day of play! Our birds were very happy and excited to see us tonight (after being well looked after by our neighbours), especially Mudgie. He’s a sweet little thing. Now for a long sleep in my own bed! Home sweet home
12.01.2022 This happened today. Woohoo! This was slightly nerve wracking but mostly just extremely tickly! Was not expecting that. Lol. But now I have this fragile foot I’m supposed to start weight bearing on. The doctor wants the moon boot off in 2 weeks so I’ve got some hard work ahead of me. But tonight, a bath - see if I can transform this hideous creature back to its former state.
09.01.2022 Just a few small snippets of our unschooling camp on the weekend. Such a great time was had. The kids barely stopped playing, constantly covered in dirt, plenty of laughs and quality adult conversation too. It ended too soon and everyone is pretty ready for another one now (even though we haven’t even made it home from the next camp yet!) #nlcspringcamp2020 #unschooling #unschoolers
07.01.2022 Today I put my feet in the sand and the ocean for the first time since I broke my ankle at Christmas time. It was such a relief. Sadly, I’m not strong enough to go into the waves and walking on the soft sand is sooo hard and scary. So lots more healing to do to get to that point. Also, I can manage about 10 mins max without the compression bandage to help with the blood flow. This healing feels very slow and painful! One day at a time.
06.01.2022 Miss 8 recently requested proper piano lessons at the same time every week, just like all the other kids I teach. So I gave her a spot within my teaching hours so we make sure it happens every week. (Previously, she just asked me to teach her stuff whenever the mood struck) But she has committed to daily practice and has been dutifully working each day, using the materials I send to my students. So here she is clapping a rhythm along with a video of me all while I’m in the kitchen washing the dishes and making food. She’s driven internally by her own goals and loving every minute. Practice/learning isn’t a drag if you’re the one driving it from your own inspiration and desire.
06.01.2022 Some days all they want to do is play - I mean, what is childhood for? They have been involved in the same game together for about 5 hours and counting. This doesn’t always happen as they are so different and many days are filled with other pursuits, projects and interests. So while they are enjoying each other’s company and so deeply involved in this elaborate (messy, slowly encroaching on the entire house) game I will just them be and save today’s plans for another day! #unschooling #letthembelittle #letthemplay #sisters
05.01.2022 We are definitely a little bit crazy. We reeaaally wanted to go camping over Easter. We knew it wouldn’t be the best weather but for some reason thought ‘let’s go anyway!’ We turned up to this amazing weather, started setting up and next minute it was raining and blowing strong gusts of wind. So I was desperately holding annexe walls down while Jimmy secured it all. We had quite a nice, calm evening after that but then it rained all night and today the rain hasn’t stopped. So not too many outdoor adventures. I think packing up tomorrow is going to be interesting and wet. I’ve also realised, my ankle is really not quite up to camping just yet. For a change, I’m looking forward to getting home to the dry and my recliner!
05.01.2022 So grateful to my rock and my soul mate for doing everything in his power to make my birthday a special day yesterday. Cooking a pancake breaky and helping the kids with cards and presents before heading off to work, then coming home with more presents, cleaning the kitchen and taking us out for dinner. I think I’ll keep him
