25.01.2022 As Tony Sheldon - Senator for NSW put it, "Uber Eats gets to eat while workers feed on the crumbs." It's an industry that needs regulation before its built-in exploitation and terrible treatment of workers becomes the norm.

25.01.2022 The NSW coronavirus outbreak has meant rapid border changes over the last few days. Find the latest information for getting from NSW into other states here: https://www.nhvr.gov.au/about-us/coronavirus-response If you have any difficulties, get in touch with your delegate, official or local branch.

25.01.2022 Where is Scott Morrison (ScoMo)? Two people have lost their lives in truck crashes today, one of them a truck driver, and 142 this year. The lack of care this government shows towards our truck drivers is a disgrace.

25.01.2022 A HUGE thank you to every single transport worker who has kept our country going during this crazy year. We know many of you will be working across the holiday season - stay safe, and we hope that though Christmas will be different this year, you still find a way to connect with loved ones.

25.01.2022 As if Qantas hasn't done enough, it's now looking to operate Sydney to Melbourne flights with four instead of five cabin crew. Just another example of Qantas taking hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars just to kill off jobs and drag down service. http://ow.ly/sRCD50CEfVC

24.01.2022 Uber has been caught red-handed abusing workers. When we took a case to the Federal Court the judges agreed that their business model is nothing more than a sham. It's time for the Federal Government to get off its hands and regulate this shoddy sector

24.01.2022 Aftermath of a recent truck crash in the Adelaide Hills. The truck was carrying acid and we're thankful the driver escaped with only minor injuries: http://ow.ly/AVPh50CMD3l It's a reminder of the dangers of the job. If you're being pushed to work in dangerous conditions, get in touch with your delegate or local branch.

24.01.2022 It's hot out there, folks. Via Australian Unions

23.01.2022 The Federal Government is extending support to aviation. But there are still no strings attached, despite the thousands of jobs Qantas has axed all while receiving hundreds of millions of taxpayers' money: https://www.theaustralian.com.au//6f48cb0ef8fb3edd5b5ec707

22.01.2022 Replaced, not made redundant. A decision made under the cover of the pandemic, not because of it. Qantas is morally bankrupt.... Sign the petition: www.saveqantasjobs.com.au

21.01.2022 It has happened again. Another baggage loader has hit a Qantas plane - this time it flew passengers on to Brisbane from Darwin. Terrifyingly, the incident was only discovered after the plane landed. The Federal Government needs to step in and ensure Qantas takes responsibility for safety of workers and passengers. Understaffing, old equipment, training, skills and experience of workers must be investigated. And outsourcing must be put under the spotlight. More: https://www.twu.com.au//qantas-passengers-put-at-risk-aft/

21.01.2022 Our friends over at Transport Workers Union, Victorian/Tasmanian Branch - TWUVicTas have earned this one.

21.01.2022 Decades of skills, training, loyalty and hard work of Qantas workers down the drain as Alan Joyce replaces them with outsourced labour. It's a devastating day for Qantas workers. This is not because of covid-19. This was a plan a decade in the making to outsource ground work and push their own workers out the door: https://www.twu.com.au//dark-day-as-qantas-rejects-worker/ An utter disgrace.... Stay tuned for our FB Live on the decision at 2:15.

21.01.2022 This has been 10 years in the making - a huge congrats to all the workers who helped make this happen. Our charter with Coles is ground-breaking and builds on our 2018 MoU, and is a massive step forward towards better standards in the transport industry.

20.01.2022 We shouldn't have to do this. It is enough of a tragedy that these delivery riders' families have lost a loved one - a dad, a husband, a brother. It is even more so that those families often don't receive any compensation. We're fighting to change the system, but in the meantime these families need help. If you can spare a few dollars, please do: www.deliveryriders.raisely.com

20.01.2022 Happy New Year! We know we’re stronger together, and we hope 2021 brings great things to everyone. It’s a great time to be in the union if you're not already: www.twu.com.au/join

20.01.2022 What has happened in aviation this year has been a disaster. We need an overhaul of the sector to protect passengers and workers and to ensure that the billions pumped into airlines by the taxpayer doesn't end up propping up greedy CEOs. The TWU's Safe & Secure Skies campaign aims to end the race to the bottom in aviation by holding airlines and airports at the top to account.

19.01.2022 Trucking is a tough gig, and there's a mental health crisis that's going on under the radar: https://www.abc.net.au//qld-mental-health-crisis-/12866904 Talking about it and looking out for each other is so important. Your union is here to help.

19.01.2022 Melbourne Federal Court: TWU launches case against Qantas over outsourcing of 2,000 jobs. Speakers: TWU National Secretary Michael Kaine. Principal lawyer Josh Bornstein

18.01.2022 The number of assaults on our public transport workers has jumped over 100 last year, up more than 54% from 2017. As bad as these figures are, we know we can't rely on "official" Government statistics. The true figures are much higher. Many bus drivers have given up on reporting because daily abuse is now just seen as part of the job and they believe nothing gets done. We're calling on the Marshall Government to follow the lead of other States and introduce the highest indus...try standards of safety for our buses, including full driver protection systems and increased security on problem routes. Show your support and sign our petition here: bit.ly/SupportBusSafety

18.01.2022 CEO bonuses and dividend increases, but nothing for employees. These Cleanaway workers deserve better.

18.01.2022 It is 2020. What an absolute disgrace from Amazon. Good luck to SDA - the Union for Workers in Retail, Fast Food & Warehousing with this case. We need better protections for people working in insecure jobs.

17.01.2022 Qantas worker and TWU respond to Qantas sick leave case ruling

17.01.2022 This comic from First Dog On The Moon hits the nail on the head. It's why the gig economy MUST be regulated. See the full thing: https://www.theguardian.com//food-delivery-riders-keep-dyi

17.01.2022 We'd watch it. Via Australian Unions

17.01.2022 Amazon has: - Called police twice on TWU officials attempting to inspect conditions - Sacked dozens of drivers after they spoke to the TWU - Failed to train workers on safety... This is unconscionable from a company whose founder is rich enough to launch himself into space.

16.01.2022 Huge win for our hard-working bus drivers who don't deserve to cop ANY sort of abuse at work!

15.01.2022 "The squeaky wheel gets the oil. And we're going to be squeaking pretty loud in 2021." Bus drivers in Queensland deserve better, and we're working to make sure that happens.

15.01.2022 It is well past time for Scott Morrison to listen to aviation workers, so we've joined with companies and unions all across the industry to demand better. Sign the petition for AviationKeeper: bit.ly/AviationKeeperPetition See the full letter: http://ow.ly/Lg4z50Df4xu

14.01.2022 2020 is almost over. It's been a hell of a year, but we want to take the time to celebrate some of our wins.

14.01.2022 These ACFS delegates from around the country have been in negotiations with the company today. Like so many in road transport, ACFS workers did not slow down in covid-19. These delegates are making sure the company doesn't forget that!

14.01.2022 TWU press conference reacting to Qantas announcement to outsource 2000 workers. Speakers TWU National Secretary Michael Kaine and Qantas worker Leonie Piggott

14.01.2022 Drivers beware: from midnight December 31 the Victorian border to NSW will shut. Permit system remains in place and freight corridors will be open but drivers are warned to expect delays. For the latest info: https://www.nhvr.gov.au/about-us/coronavirus-response For a permit for Victoria: https://www.service.vic.gov.au/services/border-permit/home

14.01.2022 These five riders should have come home to their families. While their companies' CEOS get richer, riders are under pressure to work faster and longer, for less pay. A deadly combination. But their stories, told by their brave loved ones, matter. This Walkley award for ABC 7.30's "What is the true price of convenience?" is just another reminder of that. You can watch it here: https://www.abc.net.au//what-is-the-true-price-of/13133780... This industry must change, or we will keep seeing these tragedies. We're continuing to fight for delivery riders like Dede Fredy, Xiaojun Chen, Chow Khai Shien, Bijoy Paul and Ik Wong every day.

13.01.2022 Qantas is pushing its workers out the door as soon as it possibly can, despite the JobKeeper subsidy continuing until March. Appalling is probably the most polite word we can think of.

13.01.2022 Uber "read the writing on the wall" according to Shae McCrystal by choosing to settle Amita Gupta's unfair dismissal case. The alternative? A decision that would potentially force them to provide their workers with basic working rights.

13.01.2022 This is the first time this has EVER happened in the gig economy, and it's huge for delivery riders who will now have the power to force companies to comply with WHS laws. Congrats to all the workers who fought for this, and to the Delivery Riders Alliance members who have been elected!

12.01.2022 Justice White went on to say: "This is not a debating club. We've not just got a theoretic construct to ask ourselves about. "I'm puzzled as to why your client doesn't offer the court an analysis of the true factual element of the characterisation of the relationship." The Federal Court has exposed Uber's sham business model for what it is, and we'll keep fighting for gig workers' rights: http://ow.ly/1jLT50CYXPK

12.01.2022 LIVE: Amazon is an international problem now on Australian soil with Amazon Flex, a business built on the exploitation of workers. The TWU calculates that Amazo...n workers are actually paying to go to work. Today we stand together with SDA and Amnesty International on Black Friday, the biggest day in retail, to stand up with workers around the world to Make Amazon Pay. See more

12.01.2022 It all started in August 2017, when Aldi tried to get a court injunction to stop drivers protesting and talking about rates in their supply chain. Three years they've had to listen to drivers' concerns. Instead they tried to silence truckies with a lengthy and costly legal battle. We're still waiting for them to come to the table.

12.01.2022 Can Qantas management go no lower, after putting their workers through hell and back this year? We've lodged an urgent dispute in the Fair Work Commission over this appalling act.

11.01.2022 "There are no more unions or bosses. There are just Australians now." That was Scott Morrison earlier this year. But it's just not true. This government is not for workers. Send ScoMo a message: https://fortheworkers.australianunions.org.au/petition

11.01.2022 The other day Transport Workers Union WA Branch - TWU WA and our members gave evidence to the Senate Inquiry into a safe, sustainable and efficient road transport industry. Thank you to Senator Glenn Sterle for continuing to advocate for the people behind the wheel and hearing their stories. We need more working people in parliament like you Glenn. Changes need to be made and truckies are standing up. You can listen to the TWU give evidence at this link: https://youtu.be/0F7jIf1IC3c

10.01.2022 Just like everything in the gig economy: a shiny promise that's really just exploitation.

09.01.2022 Don used to be proud to tell people he worked for Qantas. That's how the spirit of Australia got built up over a century. And Alan Joyce is throwing it all away. Sign the petition: saveqantasjobs.com.au

09.01.2022 It's been a big week at the TWU. These are huge wins that couldn't have happened without the incredible efforts put in by members. Go team.

08.01.2022 Qantas workers hit back at Qantas over rejection of their bid to keep their jobs

08.01.2022 We've heard reports of extensive delays, confusion over border permits and truck lanes not being opened. We're calling for a national plan to allow truck drivers to do their jobs as essential workers. More: https://www.twu.com.au//christmas-supplies-under-threat-a/

08.01.2022 It’s a disgrace that gaps have been allowed so that the health of workers and the public have been compromised. No more passing the buck Scott Morrison, this is on you

08.01.2022 Today Swissport goes to the Fair Work Commission to try and get its substandard deal approved - even though it would pay workers below the award. This is the same company that forces people to work gruelling split shifts and sleep at the airport, and it's the future of Qantas if they go ahead with outsourcing. Read more: https://www.twu.com.au//qantas-contractor-swissport-seeks/

08.01.2022 Qantas' decision to outsource 2000 workers is not just morally wrong. We're arguing it also breaches the Fair Work Act. Stay tuned for our FB Live at 8:30am AEST for an update.

07.01.2022 Uber has been caught red-handed abusing workers. When we took a case of an Adelaide Uber Eats driver to the Federal Court the judges agreed that their business... model is nothing more than a sham. It's time for the Federal Government to get off its hands and regulate this shoddy sector. Watch TWU Branch Secretary Ian Smith speak to ABC News on imposing better protections for gig economy workers.

07.01.2022 we're not forgetting this one anytime soon, Scott Morrison (ScoMo) - left Dnata workers without JobKeeper - stood by as Qantas outsourced 2000 workers - still won't come forward with a national plan for the industry

07.01.2022 Just some of Alan Joyce's accomplishments this year: Outsource 2500 loyal workers Deny sick leave to workers with cancer who've accrued that leave over years in the company Go to court to continue abusing JobKeeper

07.01.2022 Unions announce High Court case against Qantas over its refusal to pay sick leave to its workers

07.01.2022 Bring on the fight in 2021. NSW State Secretary Richard Olsen in Big Rigs National Road Transport Newspaper. Via TWU NSW - Transport Workers' Union

07.01.2022 Having a loved one die at work is enough of a tragedy. But without adequate workers' compensation in the gig economy, families like Dede Fredy's suffer. That's why we're pursuing compensation from Uber for Dede Fredy's widow and son.

07.01.2022 The new health and safety reps will be able to: - issue emergency stop work directions - give improvement notices over breaches and - seek consultation on safety matters... This is a huge victory for the many delivery riders who've fought for their rights. Deliveroo had to be dragged kicking and screaming to follow WHS laws and we'll continue to hold them and other gig companies to account. Read more: http://ow.ly/ovck50D0ZNd

06.01.2022 Seems politicians are fine with freezing super while keeping their cushy 15%.

06.01.2022 Vale Brian Beckwith.

06.01.2022 Toots Holzheimer, what a legend! Tell us your fave truckie, or tag em below

05.01.2022 How's that for union power? http://ow.ly/Sdpq50COOKN

05.01.2022 Today we’re holding a vigil for the five delivery riders killed in Australia since late September, and calling for reform.

05.01.2022 Livelihoods of transport workers are being put at risk because of these tolls. And all going to Transurban. What a disgrace.

03.01.2022 When you have a government that doesn’t care about people dying on the roads, we are pleased that the Senate is stepping in to act and look forward to its inquiry: http://ow.ly/daeF50CIrO4

03.01.2022 Virgin workers fought incredibly hard during the company’s sale to make sure that the new owners committed to ensuring a full service airline and a commitment to workers’ rights. That push meant 6,000 jobs were retained, as well as regional and international arms. These proposed agreements secure further commitments and are a win for job security, ensuring that Virgin workers will do Virgin work, despite an aviation industry that is still in turmoil.

03.01.2022 In September, a truck driver was shot while at a rest area. The Mt Lambie Rest Area is typical of many rest areas across NSW and in other states. TWU inspection records show that it is not fit for purpose, there is no CCTV, no amenities and no security. We welcome the news that arrests have been made regarding this attack, and we'll continue to push for adequate, well planned and well-designed heavy vehicle rest areas so the job gets done and truckies get home safely at the end of their run.

03.01.2022 Fun fact: Amazon posted a job listing this year for "intelligence analysts" to track "labour organizing threats" (ie: spy on unions). And that's the tip of the iceberg. Amnesty International USA has published a report today that shows well and truly that Amazon is a company that does not care about workers.

03.01.2022 Merry Christmas from the TWU Our thoughts are with members still working and away from their families at this time of the year. Your TWU will always fight... for you! And to each and every member who are getting this time off, enjoy your well-deserved break. 2020 has been a year like no other. And transport workers should be applauded for the fortitude and resilience that was shown. The country would have come to a grinding halt if it wasn't for you. Thank you and enjoy!

02.01.2022 Thank you Peter for bravely telling your story today. Qantas says it will break even by the end of the year - most likely return to profit next year and pay its executives millions. It should stop fighting its workers over their sick leave and pay them now

02.01.2022 A HUGE win for free speech and for our hard-working truckies. Aldi took this drawn-out and costly case to shut drivers up and despite failing spectacularly, decided to appeal. That too has now failed. We're hoping that Aldi will now see sense and come to the table to discuss its role and responsibility in reducing deaths and injuries on our roads.... Read more: https://www.twu.com.au//aldi-loses-appeal-to-silence-truc/

02.01.2022 Qantas workers spoke passionately and bravely to politicians at Parliament House today. They told how they loved their jobs, how they take pride in them, how they don't want to be outsourced and how the bid they put in to keep their jobs was competitive on cost. These workers have a lot of support in the fight to save their jobs among the public and politicians. To show your support sign the petition: www.saveqantasjobs.com.au Anthony Albanese... 02.01.2022 This year, as transport workers, you kept communities fed, clothed, cleaned and safe during a pandemic which took us all by surprise. Now as the year draws to ...a close, we hope you have a moment to relax, reconnect with loved ones and be hopeful for some calmer seas in 2021. And for all those non-transport workers out there - it is time to buy your mates in transport a well-earned beverage. From all of us at TWU VIC/TAS, thank you for demonstrating the true meaning of grit during 2020 and Happy New Year!

02.01.2022 And to our transport workers keeping our country running! If you have concerns about your workplace get in contact with your delegate or local branch: www.twu.com.au/contact Via Australian Unions

02.01.2022 Press conference with Fed Opposition Leader and Qantas workers calling for Qantas to halt the outsourcing of 2000 jobs

02.01.2022 Qantas is pushing 2,500 workers out the door and onto the Centrelink queues but reckons it will be back in the black next year. This means millions in executive pay and bonuses but not support for loyal workers. Qantas is taking taxpayers for a ride and Scott Morrison (ScoMo)is allowing them to

01.01.2022 There have been 5 delivery riders killed on our roads since September. Often they're forced to rush because of exactly this fear: being kicked off the app after being only a few minutes late. It's appalling, and it's killing people. Amita Gupta's appeal for wrongful dismissal will be heard today in the Federal Court.

01.01.2022 It's so important that the gig economy is regulated before its huge issues spread to other industries. Great words from Sally McManus.
