25.01.2022 A public health alert has been issued for Virgin flight VA962 from Brisbane to Sydney on Monday, August 17 2020 and anyone who dined at The Jam Pantry café at Greenslopes on Sunday, 16 August, 2020. If you require any information about your rights at work while undergoing testing or being made to quarantine, please do not hesitate to contact your TWU.

24.01.2022 Getting ready to take the fight to Qantas over their disgusting decision to outsource 2,500 Australian jobs during a global pandemic. Watch the Transport Workers Union - Queensland facebook livestream from 2:00pm to see more.

24.01.2022 The LNP have promised to rip up the deal that saved 5000 aviation jobs and gave tourism businesses hope of a post-COVID recovery. We can't risk Deb Frecklington.

24.01.2022 This is what an LNP Government looks like. Thousands of aviation job losses on day one. Don't give Tim Mander and Deb Frecklington the chance.

23.01.2022 We're taking the fight for good, secure jobs at Qantas online 2:00pm tomorrow at a digital picket line targeting CEO Alan Joyce and big industry supporters. Don't forget to like the Transport Workers Union - Queensland page here on Facebook and keep an eye out for the livestream!

23.01.2022 Following his meeting with Qantas workers at Brisbane Airport, Shadow Treasurer Jim Chalmers took a stand down in Canberra today on behalf of aviation workers left behind by Qantas, Dnata, and the Federal Government. Giving a shoutout to TWU members he met, Jim called out Qantas' plan to force workers to bid for their job for what it is - absolutely shameful. Save Qantas Jobs

22.01.2022 Regional drivers can't risk a decades long wait for safer roads under Deb and the LNP.

22.01.2022 For too long Courier owner drivers have endured a steady decline in pay and conditions. In a race to the bottom transport companies and their clients are making drivers accept much less than what they need to work safely and provide for themselves and their families. 21.01.2022 This one goes out to that person in your yard who says 'I don't need to join the union because I already get the benefit from everyone else being a member'. Fact is - building the team matters. By proving that workers represented by the TWU formed a significant and undisputed majority in the worksite, management at Cleanaway have backflipped on their previous position and are now prepared to begin negotiations for a better deal. Without this clear and undeniable show of stren...gth, workers would have been forced to go through a drawn out process that would have delayed future wins in their yard. We're strongest when we stand together, and we win when our yards are TWU!

21.01.2022 TWU Members at Cleanaway Moreton Bay were out taking protected industrial action again yesteday, continuing their campaign for a better deal. These workers, backed in by their Union as well as State, Federal, and Council politicians, did the right thing during the last negotiation round and took a lower pay increase to help the company retain the contract. They did this under the provision that Cleanaway would do the right thing this time around. Now, with the company crying... poor, despite having the money to deliver CEO Bonuses, dividend increases, and taking their employees to court, they're left with no choice but to stand together and fight for a fair go. We've already had some great victories, and we know that if they continue to stand together, Cleanaway workers at Moreton Bay Regional Council will win again. Thanks to Mark Furner MP for Ferny Grove, Senator Anthony Chisholm, and Cr Mick Gillam Div 8 MBRC for coming out.

20.01.2022 The Federal Government’s plan to ditch super increases will force you to retire with less super and pay higher taxes during your working life. Industry Super Australia has said This short-sighted policy will leave workers tens of thousands worse off and a huge pension bill that we will have to pay through higher taxes. Your TWU knows that you deserve the super that you have been promised. ... Transport Workers deserve the right to retire and Your TWU will continue to fight for your rights. 20.01.2022 Transport Workers are the ones helping to deliver and distribute the COVID-19 Vaccine. Your TWU knows Transport Workers are the unsung heroes of the Pandemic and will continue to stand up for Transport Workers in Queensland and across Australia!

20.01.2022 Good on you Glenn.

20.01.2022 Outside the offices of Luke Howarth MP this morning in Redcliffe. Local qantas workers will be meeting with Luke asking him to take Alan Joyce to task for his JobKeeper rort and sacking thousands of Australian workers. #saveqantasjobs Transport Workers Union - TWU

19.01.2022 Can you spot TWU Queensland's own delegate and truck driver Kent in this new Australian Unions ad?

19.01.2022 During this week's parliamentary sitting Tony Sheldon - Senator for NSW, Anika Wells MP, and Nita Green - Senator for Queensland were just some of the voices standing up for Qantas workers across the country. When will Scott Morrison stand up to Alan Joyce's JobKeeper rort?

19.01.2022 If anyone ever says that the food delivery industry needs insecure work and below minimum rates of pay they're lying. Take a look at this example from overseas as the transition to a stable employee model begins. Big food delivery companies across the world have tried to rip away a generation of workplace rights. Now's the time to join your TWU and build them back stronger than ever.

18.01.2022 Solidarity with Transport Workers Union WA Branch - TWU WA members - tell Palmer to get stuffed!

17.01.2022 Not content with mass outsourcing, Qantas is also ripping its workers off by thousands of dollars by refusing to pay them what they have earned. Your TWU is taking Qantas to court over their refusal to pay workers for public holiday, weekend, overtime work and allowances by standing people down for the rest of their pay period and manipulating the pay system so workers just get basic Jobkeeper Payment. We're not letting it go without a fight.

17.01.2022 When Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced JobKeeper, he stated that the whole point was to ensure that Australian workers maintained their connection to a job during this crisis. Qantas has taken taxpayer money, restored Alan Joyce's salary and broken that promise for thousands of workers across the country. This isn't good enough - sign the petition: http://bit.ly/JoyceMustResign

17.01.2022 Coast garbos fear they could face a dramatic pay cut unless the council introduces new terms to its waste contract. We're standing strong for A Fair Go For Sunshine Coast Garbos. Lend your support now: https://bit.ly/3hJytzs

16.01.2022 We won't recover post-COVID without a world class aviation sector connecting Australia, and reuniting our country with the world. Thank you to everyone who joined our socially distanced digital picket today, including our live cross from Brisbane Airport with Peter Biagini - TWU QLD Branch Secretary and Grim Reaper Joyce.

16.01.2022 It's always a good day when a pollie keeps a promise. It's an even better day when that promise is to criminalise the terrible practice of bosses stealing wages from their employees. Today, legislation passed the Queensland Parliament criminalising this act. ... Share this and let a dodgy boss know that they're on notice.

16.01.2022 The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) will see two Lindsay Australia entities in court over a fatal truck crash two years ago. Court documents have been issued on a day when, separately, in a formerly rare occurrence, the NHVR publicly reveals it has issued a prohibition notice and named the companies involved. The offences are alleged to have occurred between 30 September 2018 and 14 November 2018 at Boambee NSW, and relate to an accident and consequential fatality of ...a Lindsay employee at Loganlea Qld on 14 November 2018 The fatal accident involved a heavy vehicle that crashed over an overpass, triggering the NHVR investigation. Category 1 offences carry a maximum penalty of $3,364,540 for a corporation Category 2 offences carry a maximum penalty of $1,682,260 for a corporation.

15.01.2022 One Nation Senator Malcolm Roberts has called for legislation that allows businesses to sack workers more easily. In his submission to the Senate regarding the Industrial Relations Omnibus Bill, Roberts fondly recalled WorkChoices laws which allowed businesses with less than 100 staff to fire employees at will. Your TWU will continue to fight against the Government’s heartless WorkChoices 2.0 Bill and continue to stand up for Transport Workers in Queensland and all over Austr...alia. Not a member? 14.01.2022 You heard it from the Chief Health Officer herself. Protect yourself, your family, and our hardworking frontline transport workers. Wear a mask.

13.01.2022 Today Your TWU officials came together from all over Queensland. It was a successful day and we are ready to continue standing up for Transport Workers all over Queensland and Australia. 13.01.2022 Gold Coast members at Surfside Bus Lines in Coomera today got to catch up with their organiser and the team from Maurice Blackburn as pandemic restrictions ease and BBQ is back on the menu! TWU members at Surfside are calling for the company to remove the 90km/h limit on the buses - many buses have to travel on the nearby M1 with a speed limit of 110km/h, and having a bus travelling at 90 is just plain dangerous.

13.01.2022 When DNATA workers were left out of JobKeeper they had one simple ask - to be treated the same as every other Australian taxpayer and given the help they needed to get through the Coronavirus pandemic. The vote to give these workers and Australian taxpayers a fair go failed by one vote - Pauline Hanson. Now over 1000 of these workers are being made redundant. Actions have consequences.... If they won't stand up for Australian workers - then Australian workers should not stand with them.

12.01.2022 Your TWU has been working closely with the State Government to ensure that Truck Drivers have access to and are given exclusive access to heavy vehicle rest areas. As of late September, the Transport Infrastructure (State-controlled Roads) Regulation 2017 has been amended to clarify the requirements for rest area use and camping on the state-controlled road network. This is about saving lives in our roads. It's great to see the Government serious about enforcing these rules.

12.01.2022 Qantas workers are today handing a letter to Alan Joyce on plans to axe and outsource their jobs

12.01.2022 Michael Kaine and Qantas workers speak on todays announcement to outsource 2500 jobs, coming just weeks after 6000 were made redundant. Sign the petition to call for millionaire Qantas boss Alan Joyce to resign: bit.ly/JoyceMustResign

12.01.2022 Two days, two very different stories from Qantas. This company will take Australian taxpayer money with one hand in subsidies and JobKeeper, yet sack thousands of workers with the other. Anything to keep Alan's multi-million dollar salary rolling in.

11.01.2022 Public Health experts have said that the proposed Industrial relation changes will increase casual employment, insecure working conditions and have negative health effects on workers. These changes will also lead to inadequate protections and lack of access to paid sick leave for workers. Your TWU knows the intricate role that Transport Workers have played during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Now more than ever, more protections are needed, not less. ... JOIN TWU TODAY: www.twu.com.au/join

09.01.2022 TWU press conference reacting to Qantas announcement to outsource 2000 workers. Speakers TWU National Secretary Michael Kaine and Qantas worker Leonie Piggott

09.01.2022 Qantas workers and Federal politicians are speaking out for aviation jobs. Watch now here.

08.01.2022 In just the past two months, five delivery drivers have been killed in Australia the ones we know of since they are not recorded as workplace deaths. The deaths represent the total failure of a system which never should have been allowed to thrive. It’s a system that denies its workers sick leave, the right to challenge unfair sackings, training, protective gear and insurance. It stands as a blatant contradiction of the working conditions generations of Australians fought for. Read Transport Workers Union - TWU National Secretary Michael Kaine in the Guardian below.

08.01.2022 From tomorrow at 1:00am, the new border restrictions come into place with Queensland shutting its borders to New South Wales and the ACT. This is in addition to existing restrictions on travel from Victoria. Your TWU has been in discussions with the State Government to answer your questions on border closures, with advice provided in this week's Weekly Update for newly impacted workers in border communities - particularly in the bus industry.... Keep an eye out for this afternoon's update!

08.01.2022 Alongside our mates at the SDA, we're proud to be a part of an international community of Unions standing up against the exploitative, unsafe practices of Amazon. Amazon has consistently sought to limit the ability of trade unions to operate. You only do that when you're trying to force down wages, conditions, and safety. Australia is built on a Union culture of safe workplaces. The TWU and SDA won't let Amazon undermine that. This company must stop treating the human right...s of its workers as a choice rather than a responsibility and should start engaging constructively on matters including workers’ health and safety. It's time to put Australian workers first over foreign multinationals. #BlackFriday #MakeAmazonPay Chris Gazenbeek - SDA Union Queensland Joan Pease MP

08.01.2022 Qantas has taken millions in Jobkeeper wage subsidies, more than any other company, with the express intent of keeping people employed. But now Alan Joyce wants to destroy thousands more livelihoods. This is callous abuse of public money. The chief executive must resign... 08.01.2022 The vote is in. Watch the Transport Workers Union - TWU page at 2:15pm for our live press conferences on the next step for Virgin.

07.01.2022 It has been fantastic to be able to welcome delegates back to TWU House for training as Queensland continues to post strong results in the fight against COVID-19. While many businesses have been able to reopen, much of the Aviation Sector is still shut down - with thousands of workers stood down and unable to access JobKeeper due to a decision by the Prime Minister. TWU delegates stand behind Aviation workers in the fight for #AviationKeeper and a national plan for the sector.

06.01.2022 Cleanaway members at Moreton Bay Regional Council are taking action today and demanding a better deal! Cleanaway have announced record profits this year and increased shareholder dividends by 15%, but refuse to offer their workforce a deal that reflects their role as essential workers during the pandemic. Big thanks to Chris Whiting MP and Shane King MP for coming along so early this morning to support the members out here in their fight.

05.01.2022 This has been a challenging period for Australian workers. As frontline, essential workers, you've done the hard work to keep our community moving. You deserve to have someone looking out for your mental health and keeping you safe at work. That's why your TWU has partnered with others in our industry to develop the Steering Healthy Minds Mental Health First Aider program.... Peter Biagini - TWU QLD Branch Secretary visited one of our trial sites earlier this week at Surfside buslines to see how the project was working for TWU members in the yard. This R U OK Day, be sure to take the time to check in on the mental health of your workmates.

05.01.2022 Qantas has received $800,000,000 from Australian taxpayers to support the airline and secure aviation jobs. They used it to start paying Alan Joyce's salary again, but have refused to halt their plans to outsource thousands of Australian jobs. Your TWU team in Far North Queensland was outside Warren Entsch's office in Cairns this week to ask what the Federal Government is going to do to stop Alan Joyce's JobKeeper rort and ask if they're going to ask him to pay our money back.... 04.01.2022 LIVE: TWU welcomes new beginning for Virgin as creditors vote for the sale to Bain Capital

03.01.2022 Queenslanders know that Cairns is a world class tourism destination. Being open, clean, and attractive to visitors will be essential to local businesses and workers in the post-COVID recovery. So why is Cairns Regional Council cutting cleaning and waste collection services - leaving garbage to rot in our public spaces? Slashing jobs and lowering the quality of city services is not how you build for the future.... It's just not good enough.

03.01.2022 The Federal Court has handed Qantas workers a win - agreeing with a union claim that they are incorrectly applying JobKeeper as well as delaying the payment of shift penalties and overtime. This is a big win. It's time for Qantas to accept that they've done the wrong thing and give workers the back pay that they deserve.

03.01.2022 Every single day, Australian workers are losing money to underpayment 'accidents', incorrect entitlement calculations or any number of payroll 'mistakes'. Without a union, that money almost never finds its way back to the person who deserves it - you. The TWU legal team has been hard at work this year, ensuring that members are represented every step of the way when they need it.... The transport industry is rife with underpayments, ripoffs and unfair dismissals, often costing workers thousands plus legal fees when they try to claw it back. So far this year the TWU legal team has recovered over $240,000 for members across Queensland, resulting from wage claims, unfair dismissals and more. Often the legal team can't talk about the wins that they have due to confidentiality, but this awesome figure is a testament to the hard work that they put in for members! It's your money. Being Union makes sure it ends up in your pocket.

02.01.2022 A TWU Survey has shown that 81.2% of Queensland bus drivers had been threatened with physical harm while on the job. This is why TWU drivers campaigned so hard for so long to win millions of dollars in State Government funding for full safety screens to protect them at work. So why is it that to this day, many companies have refused to access this funding? Drivers deserve better then management that just can't be bothered.... Talk to your TWU yard delegate today about our petition to secure screens and get management to deliver at last.

02.01.2022 Live press conference at the Fair Work Commission: TWU case against Qantas over the outsourcing of 2500 workers. TWU Assistant National Secretary Nick McIntosh and Qantas worker Mark Lenzo

01.01.2022 Qantas has told its workers to find over $100 million in savings themselves or face the sack. They should know that their reputation is built on decades of hard work by people like Colin, and by letting them down they're letting Australia down as well. Your TWU won't forget the people that built Australian aviation.

01.01.2022 The only reason Queensland has been able to reopen businesses, save jobs, and promote tourism and travel within our state is because we kept our borders closed. If Deb was Premier she would have opened the borders right when Victorian cases spiked. We can't risk Deb shutting QLD down again.
