24.01.2022 Aviation workers gathered outside Parliament House in Darwin today, to protest Qantas' decision to outsource 2,500 workers, and call on the Federal Government to step up and provide a national plan for aviation. Thank you to Luke Gosling MP for coming out to support aviation workers, and a huge thank you to the workers who shared their stories today. Congratulations to all workers for standing strong and united. We will continue to stand up for all aviation workers' and fight against the decision to outsource Qantas and Jetstar jobs. #SaveQantasJobs
24.01.2022 Borders have been opening and closing for a year. The horrific crash on the border of Vic and SA shows exactly how deadly it can be when truckies' safety is left by the wayside, and we are heartbroken for the family and friends of the driver who was killed. This could have been avoided with proper consultation and notice. We are calling on the Federal Government to come to the table and implement a plan for border closures. We MUST have a national approach.
24.01.2022 This is the start of a new beginning for Virgin, but we know there's a long road ahead. We'll be holding Bain to account on its promises so that workers' voices are heard.
24.01.2022 The government's new code on freight movement has taken effect as of today. This code places the onus of complying with testing, permits and PPE on our truck drivers instead of employers and wealthy clients at the top. This is not good enough. Read more: http://ow.ly/ccDJ50AZcqG If you're a truck driver, take our survey about how covid-19 restrictions are affecting you: bit.ly/TruckiesSurvey
22.01.2022 The number of assaults on our public transport workers has jumped over 100 last year, up more than 54% from 2017. As bad as these figures are, we know we can't rely on "official" Government statistics. The true figures are much higher. Many bus drivers have given up on reporting because daily abuse is now just seen as part of the job and they believe nothing gets done. We're calling on the Marshall Government to follow the lead of other States and introduce the highest indus...try standards of safety for our buses, including full driver protection systems and increased security on problem routes. Show your support and sign our petition here: bit.ly/SupportBusSafety
22.01.2022 We stand with all affected Qantas and Jetstar workers in South Australia and the Northern Territory. This is one of the worst attacks on Australian workers since the Waterfront Dispute. These cuts are nothing short of corporate bastardry. Alan Joyce MUST resign now.... More: https://www.twu.com.au//twu-calls-for-joyces-resignation-/

20.01.2022 Qantas management has launched a bidding war among the states and territories for it to relocate its HQ. Qantas has already misused $800 million in federal public money. No more public funds should go to the airline without strict conditions on safety and labour standards.... Read our letter to state premiers: https://bit.ly/3ca8DCN
20.01.2022 If we let Qantas get away with culling 2500 Aussie jobs who’s next? For a company that prides itself as being the spirit of Australia, it's appalling how it's treating workers. Support our campaign: www.saveqantasjobs.com.au
20.01.2022 LIVE: Listen to aviation workers and their supporters speak up against Qantas decision to outsource their jobs to labour hire.
19.01.2022 This is one our hardworking bus drivers. We cannot reveal his identity, because his attacker is still out there. But he has bravely come forward to share his story. This hardworking driver was just doing his job when he was ruthlessly attacked on his bus. Punched in the face multiple times, he was left injured and unable to work. He has one simple request: improved safety measures for bus drivers, to help protect other drivers from experiencing the same horrific abuse he face...d while simply doing his job. 19.01.2022 Trucking is an essential service which is vital to ensure that goods continue to be made available to the public and other essential services in this time of crisis. This means, trucks must continue to move between borders without any issues. We understand that governments need to put in place measures to contain the pandemic but they must ensure that essential transport workers delivering food, fuel and medicines across closed borders have clear uniform rules about what they need to do. See our letter to Federal transport minister Michael McCormack: https://bit.ly/2X7llw0
19.01.2022 If youre on JobKeeper or JobSeeker there are changes to the program from 28 September. Find out more about the changes: http://ow.ly/Q5mf50AIzhC
19.01.2022 Bus drivers have one demand: to go to work and do their job without being physically or verbally assaulted. Sadly this abuse is an everyday reality for our drivers. In light of increasing attacks we have held an urgent Bus Safety Summit, bringing together bus drivers, bus companies, Police, Security, Peter Malinauskas, Lee Odenwalder MP and Tom Koutsantonis MP. ... All parties in attendance committed to constructively working together to improve safety for both bus drivers and passengers alike. Its disappointing Stephan Knoll and DPTI chose not to attend.
17.01.2022 In just 3 days, two UberEats riders have been tragically killed at work. This brings the total number of food delivery riders who have been killed at work in the last 3 months to five. The gig economy is literally killing workers. Without health and safety rights, insurance and a living wage riders are forced into working quickly rather than safely over long hours to pay their bills and buy groceries.... Platforms like UberEats are getting away with turning a blind eye to the health and safety of their workers and the Federal Government is washing its hands of responsibility by putting it on State governments to take action alone. Sign this joint Young Workers Centre and TWU petition calling on Christian Porter, Federal Industrial Relations Minister, to enforce fair and safer working conditions in the gig economy: https://www.megaphone.org.au//enough-is-enough-stop-gig-wo And if you can, please chip in now to support the families of delivery riders recently killed at work: https://deliveryriders.raisely.com/
16.01.2022 Congratulations to Michael Gunner on his re-election as Chief Minister of the Northern Territory. Michael Gunner is a strong friend of transport workers. His Government has committed $190 Million to infrastructure projects that will benefit hard-working truck drivers in improving roads, safety, and truck stops. ... They have also successfully worked with the TWU to reduce assaults and abuse of bus drivers and continue to engage with us to create a safer bus network for all. Your TWU will continue working with the Gunner Government to create a better transport sector in the NT.
16.01.2022 These are our hard-working bus drivers who work on the front line to get thousands of passengers to their destinations safely each day. They deserve to go to work without the fear of being physically or verbally assaulted. Sadly bus driver abuse has become so normalised it is simply seen as part of the job.... Our drivers want improved safety measures. They want to feel safe at work. Were calling on the Marshall Government to introduce the highest industry standards of safety for bus drivers. Show your support & sign our petition: bit.ly/SupportBusSafety #BusDriversDeserveBetter
16.01.2022 Incidents of assault and unruly behaviour have reached a crisis point across our bus network. Its not just bus drivers who are at risk, its passengers too. Enough is enough. Bus safety needs to be taken seriously. Were calling on the Marshall Government to introduce the highest industry standards of safety for our buses, including full driver protection systems and increased security on problem routes.... Show your support and sign our petition here: bit.ly/SupportBusSafety
14.01.2022 Watch: Diegos story is one of thousands. Sacked via anonymous email with no warning, hes part of an industry that provides no minimum wage or even guaranteed wage to its workers. Were contesting his unfair dismissal - its not fair, and this exploitation needs to stop. Sign the petition to support Diego and others: bit.ly/supportdiego
14.01.2022 We originally helped blow the whistle on this and a number of other incidents over a month ago. Were glad the footage has finally been released so this heinous individual can be identified. Passengers deserve a bus network that they can confidently catch to get from point A to B safely. Drivers deserve to go to work without the fear of being physically or verbally assaulted. Sadly, anti social behaviour on buses has become so normalised it is simply seen as an inherent featu...re. Thats why were calling on the Marshall Government to introduce the highest industry standards of safety and improved security presence on problem routes. Show your support & sign our petition: bit.ly/SupportBusSafety
14.01.2022 These are the faces of our hard-working bus drivers. Throughout this crisis, they have continued to work on the front line to serve our community, making sure they get thousands of passengers every day to their destination safely. They have one request: to go to work and do their job without being physically or verbally assaulted.... Sadly this abuse is an everyday reality for our drivers. They are saying enough is enough and standing up to the idea that this is simply part of the job. We will continue our campaign for simple safety measures that will make a big difference.
14.01.2022 A tough day for many Virgin jobs, but a fuller capacity airline is good news to come out of a difficult situation. Congratulations to TWU delegates and members whove worked hard to keep a bigger, stronger Virgin rather than a low cost model. To all Virgin workers, we stand in solidarity with you today and always. Please reach out anytime you need.... https://bit.ly/virgin0508SANT
14.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who joined us at Adelaide Airport this morning to stand in support of aviation workers. Thank you to Senator Marielle Smith, Senator Rex Patrick & Mark Butler MP for coming out to support aviation workers, and a huge thank you to those workers who stood up to tell their stories today. The aviation industry is in crisis and we need the Federal Government to step up and implement a national plan for aviation. We will continue to fight for aviation workers and call on Scott Morrison to step up. #SaveQantasJobs

14.01.2022 The TWU is working to ensure that there are the right number of well planned, well designed and useful rest areas along the major freight routes. To do this we need to hear from you about your experience using rest areas. Complete our quick survey here: https://bit.ly/2DinrC9
13.01.2022 Your TWU were out at Busways Lonsdale yesterday with delegates Mark and Graham, holding a BBQ to thank drivers for their hard work and discuss their upcoming EA negotiations. Being Union is more important now than ever before. Now is the time to stand together and join the fight for better wages and conditions. #TWUproud
13.01.2022 This is the start of a new beginning for Virgin, but we know theres a long road ahead. Well be holding Bain to account on its promises so that workers voices are heard.
13.01.2022 If youre using public transport and cannot maintain social distancing, our bus drivers are urging you to wear a mask as a precaution.
13.01.2022 JobKeeper has been extended past September, but its a win that comes with far too many caveats. Fortnightly payments will reduce to $1200 for full-time workers, and $750 for those working less than 20 hours a week. This is only going to worsen the already fragmented aviation industry, and again leave behind Dnata workers who have been without pay for months.... Well keep fighting for them and everyone else whos been left behind. Read more: https://bit.ly/3hlHvC6
13.01.2022 Your TWU has beaten Torrens Transit in the Fair Work Commission today regarding the underpayment of broken shift penalties. This win is a big step in our fight for a better bus industry and was only possible through members standing strong together. It's time to stand up and fight. There's never been a better time to be a TWU member!
12.01.2022 The Liberals and Nationals have voted against an amendment that would have made life easier for thousands of owner drivers in Australia. Thanks for speaking up about this Tony Sheldon - Senator for NSW.
12.01.2022 If you're taking public transport to the Port Adelaide v Sydney Swans game tomorrow afternoon, please do your best to be COVID safe. Practice good hygiene, maintain social distancing and wear a mask as an extra precaution where overcrowding is an issue. Be COVID safe on public transport and do your part to protect yourself, your driver and your fellow passengers this weekend.
12.01.2022 Qantas workers gathered in Darwin airport today to protest Alan Joyce's heartless decision to throw loyal workers under the bus and outsource their jobs to labour hire firms. We have just launched legal action in the Fair Work Commission over Qantas failure to consult with workers on its plan to kill their jobs and over the tendering process which has been designed to make it impossible for workers to bid for their jobs. We will continue opposing this heinous decision.
12.01.2022 This is leadership. The recent COVID-19 outbreak in SA has exposed the dangerous role of combining insecure work and the essential work of hotel quarantine. Insecure work is toxic and dangerous. ... It’s time for South Australia to step up and make sure no one has to go to work sick because they can’t afford not to.

07.01.2022 Watch this video message from Qantas Group Workers ahead of tomorrow's National Day of Action for Aviation.
07.01.2022 Thank you for your support Mark Butler. We need more MPs to stand up and call out Qantas decision for what it really is - an attempt to outsource hardworking union members with cheap labour hire.
07.01.2022 If you're using public transport and cannot maintain social distancing, our bus drivers are urging you to wear a mask as a precaution.
06.01.2022 Michael Kaine and Qantas workers speak on todays announcement to outsource 2500 jobs, coming just weeks after 6000 were made redundant. Sign the petition to call for millionaire Qantas boss Alan Joyce to resign: bit.ly/JoyceMustResign
06.01.2022 This horrific crash is an absolute tragedy and highlights the urgent need for a national plan on border closures and consultation with key industry stakeholders. Hard border closures need to be implemented properly, and the Federal Government must come to the table to ensure measures are put in place so that our hardworking truck drivers can continue to do their jobs safely. Truck drivers as essential workers are being left to deal with the chaos of each border closure and this must stop.
06.01.2022 INTERSTATE DRIVERS! We know youre doing an incredible job getting supplies across closed borders during this pandemic. Unfortunately the authorities arent exactly helping, with too many obligations and restrictions on drivers making your situation increasingly difficult. We want to know how this is affecting you. Take the survey: bit.ly/TruckiesSurvey
06.01.2022 Bus drivers deserve respect and protection. They deserve to feel safe at work. An Advertiser poll of 200 members of the public revealed that 94% support the installation of full driver protection systems on buses. Better driver safety is better passenger safety. Thank you to our community for supporting our hard-working bus drivers and standing up to the idea that abuse is simply part of the job.... We need your continued support as we demand the Marshall Government introduces the highest industry standards of safety for our drivers. 06.01.2022 FedEx-TNT workers have been left reeling in shock after the multi-billion dollar company announced in January plans to fire 6,000 of its European workforce who have driven FedEx's profits to record levels. The TWU and the International Transport Workers' Federation are calling on the public and transport workers worldwide to show FedEx that corporate greed is not welcome anywhere and tell them to stop their plans to dismiss thousands of workers! Sign the petition here: https://bit.ly/2ZhVEJB
06.01.2022 Congratulations to all the unions in Queensland on this historic achievement. Queensland has become the latest state to step up and criminalise wage theft. Its estimated that 1 in 5 South Australian workers experience wage theft, losing over $500 million a year. ... Its time for South Australia to follow suit and criminalise wage theft without delay.
05.01.2022 Watch this video message from long serving Qantas Group Workers, Tony, Justin and Chris. Join the TWU at Darwin Airport this Thursday from 10am, to stand together with Qantas workers and show your support. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kEfLOg_vsys&feature=youtu.be
04.01.2022 Despite repeated attempts to engage with the Minister for Transport, Stephan Knoll, he has continued to stick his head in the sand and ignore the desperate calls from drivers to improve safety across the bus network. Bus drivers deserve respect and protection. The TWU has consistently offered solutions to improve safety and conditions and we will not stop fighting. We need your help as we demand Minister Knoll introduces the highest industry standards of safety for drivers. Sign our petition here: https://bit.ly/SupportBusSafety

04.01.2022 Qantas workers gathered in Darwin airport today to protest Alan Joyces heartless decision to throw loyal workers under the bus and outsource their jobs to labour hire firms. We have just launched legal action in the Fair Work Commission over Qantas failure to consult with workers on its plan to kill their jobs and over the tendering process which has been designed to make it impossible for workers to bid for their jobs. We will continue opposing this heinous decision.
03.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who joined us today in supporting Qantas and Jetstar workers in South Australia and across the country. Unions and workers must stand together to ensure jobs are saved. Over 500 million dollars of the communitys money has been ploughed into Qantas to keep jobs. Workers are not being made redundant but are being replaced. Alan Joyce must resign.
03.01.2022 Join the TWU at Adelaide Airport this Thursday 10.30am to support Qantas workers. We must stand together in a show of solidarity and oppose Alan Joyces corporate dictatorship.
03.01.2022 Watch this video message from Senior Branch Official and Current Acting Branch Secretary, Matt Burnell. The TWU is calling on all members across our great union here in South Australia to show their support and stand beside our long serving Qantas members tomorrow at Adelaide Airport from 10.30am.
02.01.2022 The South Australian Premier has announced restrictions on the border in relation to the ongoing Victorian COVID-19 outbreak. These restrictions may impact you, especially if you are an interstate truck driver. South Australian resident truck drivers will be able to move across the Victorian border without self-quarantining on return as long as they minimise time spent in Victoria.... The rules for Victorian residents are different. They must wear surgical face masks covering the nose and mouth at all times when in contact with the public in SA and must self quarantine when not working. Your TWU is seeking clarification from the Marshall Government to answer drivers questions about this change and will provide further updates to members. We will also be seeking measures to support our hard working Victorian truck drivers who now have to self quarantine when not working. For more info: https://bit.ly/VICCovidFAQ
02.01.2022 Thank you for your support Mark Butler. We need more MPs to stand up and call out Qantas' decision for what it really is - an attempt to outsource hardworking union members with cheap labour hire.
01.01.2022 Despite scrapping a small part of their proposed changes to the Better Off Overall Test, the Government's IR omnibus bill is still dangerous and extreme. Transport workers have kept Australia moving throughout the pandemic, and the Morrison Government's proposed laws will reduce job security and cut wages, leaving millions of workers worse off. Email the crossbench senators to tell them this dangerous bill is far from fixed: https://utm.io/uc5Xp
01.01.2022 In light of increasing attacks on bus drivers, we will be hosting an Emergency Bus Safety Summit next week. From government to passengers, bus operators, and unions, we can all agree - there should be zero tolerance for violence against bus drivers. We welcome the support of SA Bus Operators, SAPOL, Peter Malinauskas, Tom Koutsantonis MP, ... Lee Odenwalder MP, and most importantly our hard-working bus drivers. We are currently waiting for a response from Stephan Knoll.
01.01.2022 The TWU acknowledges the safety concerns of both drivers and passengers, and is urging the Marshall Government to release clearer passenger advice, including a strong recommendation that masks are worn at all times when travelling on public transport. If youre using public transport and cannot maintain social distancing our bus drivers are urging you to wear a mask as a precaution.
