25.01.2022 Workers at Perth Airport having their say about job losses at Qantas

25.01.2022 The TWU was out in force last night to support good, strong, union jobs remaining at Fremantle Port for years to come and not building an outer harbour before it is needed. The State Government needs to spend that money on constructing and maintaining better roads and other infrastructure projects. Not selling out an industry to robots and automation. True trade unionists stand in solidarity with the Maritime Union of Australia - WA Branch, CFMEU WA and other unions who support working peoples jobs.

24.01.2022 Kent is a truck driver and Transport Workers Union - TWU member. He and his workmates have been delivering medical supplies during the pandemic, they are proud ...to do this essential work for the community. He has a message for the Federal Government: Essential workers need to be protected and respected. Let the Government know that workers must be protected: https://fortheworkers.org.au/

24.01.2022 Contractors and Franchisees from Aramex (formerly Fastway couriers) held a stop work meeting early this morning to discuss their current rates of pay. These workers are are sick of being treated like crap and used as a cash cow for this multinational company... The rates are low and the company deducts payments for contractor fees which are anything they can think of. The biggest problem of all is that legislation under the Owner Drivers Act 2007 does not deal with any vehicle under 4.5T GVM which needs to change. This means the thousands of vans and utes doing this type of work have nowhere to take a dispute and one-sided contracts lets the company do as it pleases. Your TWU is working to get this amended, and drivers are joining their union to be a part of a strong solution to the courier crisis. Keep up the fight guys and girls!!

24.01.2022 Today, truck drivers took their fight to Woolworths in Murray Street to protest a recent decision by the supermarket giant to replace its current workforce of Woolworths online delivery drivers with contractors who pay below award wages. This is despite Woolies signing a charter with the TWU that is meant to focus on supply chain monitoring and fairness, Not only have drivers heard they will be losing their jobs, but they will be replaced by students and vulnerable communiti...es of workers that do not understand their workplace rights. This is a blatant disregard for Australian labour standards and careless exploitation of vulnerable workers. So much for truck drivers being hailed as heroes during the pandemic panic buying And the supermarket giant reporting bumper sales for the 2019-20 financial year, with revenue rising 8.1 per cent to $63.6 billion. Shame Woolies SHAME!

23.01.2022 TWU stands with Toll members in their fight to make sure they continue to be a leading employer of Transport workers. To protect our members wages and conditions and a safe work place. Collectively we will stand together as Tolls owner Japan Post considers selling off all or parts of the company. Join your Union now

23.01.2022 Today the WA branch and our members gave evidence to the Senate Inquiry into a safe, sustainable and efficient road transport industry. Thank you to Senator Glenn Sterle for continuing to advocate for the people behind the wheel and hearing their stories. We need more working people in parliament like you Glenn. Changes need to be made and truckies are standing up. You can listen to the TWU give evidence at this link: https://youtu.be/0F7jIf1IC3c

21.01.2022 The Transport Workers Union is calling for Qantas CEO Alan Joyce to resign and Scott Morrison to act over the squandering of more than half a billion public dollars, as the airline moves to sack thousands more workers. More: https://www.twu.com.au//twu-calls-for-joyces-resignation/

20.01.2022 Australia needs to catch up and regulate the gig economy to protect our hard-earned standards for pay and conditions.

20.01.2022 Our heartfelt condolences to the friends and family of a fellow transport worker and TWU member

19.01.2022 Crushing the spirit of Australia

18.01.2022 Following the decision to change the Woolworths online contract from Toll, who paid fair rates, to Linfox who have outsourced the work to companies paying below award rates the TWU will be marching from our office to the Murray street Woolworths this Thursday. Join us: meet at 82 Beaufort St. Perth for a 11:30 start this Thursday 17 September and help us rally against the race to the bottom.

16.01.2022 ....and yet Qantas wants to outsource another 2,500 jobs These baggage handlers are already outsourced, for the love of our instruments and other fragile items, lets not keep scaling back and undercutting this industry. Sign the petition www.saveqantasjobs.com.au

16.01.2022 The workers united will never be defeated. Watch and share this video from Monday nights protest. Unions are standing shoulder to shoulder to keep Fremantle Harbour a working port. ... Touch one, touch all.

15.01.2022 INTERSTATE DRIVERS! We know youre doing an incredible job getting supplies across closed borders during the pandemic. But the authorities arent exactly helping with too many obligations and restrictions on drivers. We want to know how this is affecting you. Take the survey: bit.ly/TruckiesSurvey

12.01.2022 Qantas workers have had to submit a bid for their jobs. They don't want to be outsourced. We are urging Qantas to allow their workers to keep their jobs.

11.01.2022 Our State Secretary Tim Dawson addresses Toll Delegates at their state-wide meeting this morning. An imminent sale of Toll is underway by its current owner Japan Post so its going to be an interesting couple of months, but these workers are strong and up for the fight!

10.01.2022 LIVE: Qantas workers are at Parliament House calling for 2,500 Qantas jobs to be saved, not outsourced

10.01.2022 The TWU will never stop fighting against the injustices in transport and airlines are no exception. A virus might have closed down the aviation industry. But the real disease is corporate Australias thirst for profits before people.... Stand with us on Thursday 24 September at T3/T4 Perth Airport from 11.30AM to call out these injustices. All workers welcome!

09.01.2022 See you at Perth airport Friday morning at 7:15am

09.01.2022 Happy Fathers Day to all the union dads

08.01.2022 Workers have carried Australia through the pandemic. Support our hidden heroes. https://fortheworkers.org.au

08.01.2022 Yesterday there were some updates to National Freight movement code for border crossings, including; Heavy vehicle drivers can now receive an asymptomatic COVID-19 test at private pathology clinics across Australia at no cost, due to their inclusion in a new Medicare item for asymptomatic COVID-19 testing (including in Victoria) something the union has been fighting for from day dot https://www.nhvr.gov.au/about-us/coronavirus-response

07.01.2022 Bus drivers across WA are taking action today against changes to their F Class Licences. Drivers shouldnt have to pay to do their jobs and theyre standing up against the Government for lumping them into the ride-share scheme which doesnt make sense and will disadvantage bus drivers financially. Support these drivers and share this post!

06.01.2022 Members in Tom Price and Port Hedland keep an eye out for your TWU organiser Mick Connolly, wholl be in town today, tomorrow and Wednesday. Hes available on the mobile or channel 40 And he looks forward to catching up with you!

06.01.2022 A great deal of progress has been made on this issue with our State Secretary speaking with the Premier, Transport Minister and MainRoads. With the help of drivers, we need you to identify the hot spots so they can be upgraded to a standard fit for use of WA truckies in the 21st Century. Complete this survey, keep up the pressure and have your say: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/TruckAmenities

05.01.2022 You will see bus drivers in WA wearing stickers that look like this today. It is part of their day of action against changes to the F class licence regulations. Recently the State Government made a decision to make changes to how bus drivers renew their F-Class licence, which will place drivers under the ride share scheme. For a healthy bus driver under 50, they currently renew their licence every 5 years for a total cost of around $250 dollars. A bus driver over 50 renews t...heir licence every 2 years. Over a 5-year period drivers will be paying $1000 dollars extra than we currently do now, again for doing our job, providing an essential service. We are calling on the State Government and Transport Minister Rita Saffioti MLA to scrap this scheme or commit to covering these exorbitant ongoing costs, because why should drivers need to pay to do their jobs?

04.01.2022 This #BlackFriday it is time to #MakeAmazonPay. We stand with millions of workers, activists, and citizens around the world rising up to demand justice from CEO Jeff Bezos. Join us makeamazonpay.com

04.01.2022 Coles DC truckies WIN! Recently the TWU was alerted to safety issues at the Coles DC which included lack of toilets or kitchen amenities, no place for simple refreshments like coffee or tea, no facilities to wash their hands and drivers were getting their keys taken away from them eliminating the use of heating or cooling facilities on their trucks. The reaction of the company to the Covid pandemic was to take away vital facilities and change practices that alienated and com...promised drivers safety. Fortunately the TWU stepped in and answered the calls of drivers. Hundreds of drivers signed a petition and forced change! Getting the company to install lunchroom and toilet demountables that are up and running on the ambient loading docks. There is also a similar set up in the freezer/chiller area except just waiting on them to be commissioned. Congratulations to everyone who signed the petition and collectively united on resolving a pressing issue. If you know of any other DCs or workplaces not doing right by the drivers in regards to safety or conditions, alert your TWU. Send us a message, comment below or phone the office on 6313 3000 Together we are stronger!

04.01.2022 The TWU has been made aware of bus drivers being asked to clean up unsavoury fluids including vomit, faeces and urine. The TWU advises all bus drivers they are NOT to perform such cleaning, particularly during the times we are in with Covid-19. Bus drivers are not trained in how to clean such fluids up in a safe manner nor are they provided any PPE to do so.... If a driver encounters such a situation we would encourage all drivers to contact their supervisor via the radio and book the bus off immediately. If you are requested to perform such cleaning duties refuse to do so on safety grounds and let your Delegate know so the TWU can act to ensure this practice ceases immediately.

04.01.2022 Share to say SHAME on the Qantas board
