25.01.2022 Ramon's dragon was freshly painted this morning ready to be fired. But it's to big to fit in the current load.

24.01.2022 Some images from the kiln. Ann your leave turned out spectacular. It's crazing beautifully on the underside. Can wait until we put some indian ink into that glaze. Ramon your first pot is a beautiful blue. So glad you came in to glaze.

23.01.2022 Picked up whole box full of tool blanks today. Yes, red blank credit cards. What for I hear some of you ask? Tools for the future let's just say .

23.01.2022 Cone 7 gloss loaded ready to fire tomorrow.

20.01.2022 Mushrooms for dinner tonight. These mushrooms were made with Ramon this morning during a class and as I'm yet to fill the kiln to fire tomorrow I'm quick drying them in my oven tonight. Oven is set to below 100C in case you feel like you ever need to do this. Items need to be smallish. They will cook for around an hour then I'll turn the oven off and leave them to cool overnight. Tomorrow they will go into the kiln (bisque) and next week Ramon can glaze them. Not something I'm going to do every week but once in a while seems ok.

20.01.2022 Sorry I forgot to add my favorite pot from the last firing. This is Tyabb lithium green and the iron fleck is the use if a very special iron grog material that resembles scoria.

20.01.2022 The bisque Kiln was unloaded today and Quick Throws from Saturday were turned (had their bottoms cleaned up and supporting weight reduced).

19.01.2022 Tyabb Pottery Studio will be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday this week.

19.01.2022 Playing in the garage during home schooling today. Reclaiming, mixing, weighing clay, wedging, cleaning and wheel thrown designing. This new mug design is based on a coffee machine at Trisled. If my clay shrinkage calculation are correct they should fit. Still a bit of refinement to go.

19.01.2022 Kiln unloaded. Unless we go into stage 4, pickup will be available 11am-2pm Saturday by appointment. Please text me if you wish to pick up your pots.

18.01.2022 New Tyabb white on Feeneys Fine Blend. Might have to make some Christmas bells this week. It sounds beautiful.

17.01.2022 Making a few wheel throwing tools. These will be for sale as a part of a larger wheel throwing set shortly. Oh, and if you are wondering what the other end is for, pop in a talk to me when we reopen and I might even show you.

16.01.2022 Had a bit of fun with this quickthrow of Dahien's as it had a lot of clay at the bottom, so when I turned it up the other way I figured it was a great opportunity to look at possible dragon post tops for the future.

16.01.2022 Bisque Kiln (first fire) unloaded today. Looking forward to seeing these glazed and gloss fired in the coming weeks. Let me know if you would like to glaze this week.

16.01.2022 I will be in the studio 11am - 3pm today and Sunday. The Tyabb Packing House is still closed and access is limited. Please contact me is you wish to drop pots off for a bisque or gloss cone 6 7 firing.

15.01.2022 This firing definitely tested my glazes to the limits. With a body reduction as well as a top temperature reduction I open today to discover the reason why I couldn't see cone 8. Yes it was down. The lithium green glaze showed some amazing results. The rutile Tyabb blue was spectacular (except I might have to grind the base of my large bowl a little). But best of all it clearly showed some positives and negatives in the glazes I was tests. A lot to work with in isolation in the coming weeks.

15.01.2022 Calculated a new glaze this morning before heading to Tyabb. The aim of this glaze was to assist in reducing some of the reclaim waste from quickthrows. So after mixed it while firing I tested it on some wet clay tiles. Seems to work really well so far as a Mocha medium. Hopefully it will fire up to cone 7 ok.

15.01.2022 Had to make some last minute changes to my plan to fire a gloss this weekend. Currently on 1100c and home schooling is now finished for the day.

14.01.2022 Bit cold at Tyabb today. Kiln is firing hot with Cone 6 is down .

14.01.2022 Bisque Kiln is loaded ready to fire tomorrow. Gauri join the studio this morning for a Quickthrow. And Lauren and Tim had a little play with clay this afternoon. Happy Birthday Lauren

14.01.2022 Some new glazes tested to cone 7 oxidation. Many thanks Diane. The little blue birds are old slip casted terracotta forms of mum's with the new Tyabb white and celedon blue. Might need to be careful with our combinations until we check this again on our normal clays. The clear however is showing great possibilities and I can't wait to test all colours. These tests show however that bubbles can occur when applied too thick.

12.01.2022 Meditation in the garage today. I'm really starting to like this clay (FFB).

12.01.2022 Not open to the public for a few weeks now sorry. Just quietly loading with an aim to fire Sunday. Will pilot burn this batch tomorrow I think as some items are still a bit wet. If your interested in picking up some clay message me as I will be in the studio 12noon Saturday and Sunday (if I fire).

12.01.2022 Taking my frustrations out on the clay in the garage you might say. Using a make shift wedging table and a plaster oval mold I have starting to reclaim some clay (the hard way). Something good might come out of it yet. First mixing wedge down. I just might have to have a beer for Mum's birthday later to day to easy the shoulder pain. Love you Mum

11.01.2022 Loaded ready to fire to cone 7 Friday.

09.01.2022 Back to unload the gloss and turn some 'quickthrows' from last weekend.

09.01.2022 Finally glazed this pot that has been sitting in Mum's studio window for years. To be truthful I'am not sure if its mine or Mum's. The blue glaze is the new Tyabb Blue calculated only a few weeks back. This glaze was reformulated from Ritchard's R. Yellow Spec Blue, Kevin Boyd's Cone 10 glazes from Bendigo Ceramic Festival 1993. I reformulated it for cone 6 and reduced the cobalt (mainly because of the cost). This has made the glaze a lot lighter in color but it's a really nice glaze. Might have to play with some macrame concepts on this one in the coming weeks.

07.01.2022 Bisque kiln unloaded today. Pots will be available for pickup on Saturday 10am-3pm. Please contact me prior to your arrival as main gates will be closed.

07.01.2022 It's been a few weeks since these pots of Adrian's were thrown. So today given the Studio was quiet I chose to turn their bottoms. Hope you like them Adrian.

07.01.2022 Playing with clay. Some of you are possibly wondering what on earth is she doing? Well I like the organic square shape. Didn't like the second one so much so I decided to slab pull it. Might carve and place it on a rolled slap later. And third one. Well it was a slab I decided to throw three times and simply move its location on a very big bad bat. Might play with this idea again later this week as it could look more interesting if it was slab pulled after it was thrown x3 (more an organic oval shape). All three will need to be carved out from behind to reduce their weight.

04.01.2022 I spent yesterday in the garage using some of the reclaim making tasting plates. I needed to make a lot more but unfortunately the clay kept revealing chunks of grog (broken bisque). This is not an issue if the clay is full of grog but single one off bits can result in the plates cracking during drying. So I dumped the plate idea for two play pots and added some red grog to the clay (crushed by Jessica during the last lockdown). My plan is to see how my shino reacts over the iron variations.

03.01.2022 As many of you know due to the current restrictions in Victoria I'm not able to even work in my studio alone, very frustrating. Fortunately I have fantastic friends. Thankyou to Ed for looking after the studio (Given the recent weather events) and an even bigger thankyou to Diane from Mudlarks Clay Studio, Merricks North for taking the time to not only mix up some glaze tests but fire them in her cone 6 oxidation firing this week. Looking forward to seeing these inspiring results in person. Really love the translucent Maiolica. I know its a contradiction in terms but this semi white actually dosen't contain tin yet.

03.01.2022 Gloss cone 6 kiln unloaded and bisque kiln loaded. Almost there. I just need a few more dry bits to fill this one. Hope to fire Saturday.

02.01.2022 As some of you are aware I have not been entirely happy with my clear glaze. So after analysing the chemical analysis of three different clear glazes combined with some recently published information. I think I'm ready to test what I hope will be our new clear glaze.

02.01.2022 I attached Ramon's dragon to its base just before leaving very late last night. Just hope he hasn't taken flight since. Fingers crossed.

02.01.2022 Gloss kiln almost ready. Just a few test pots and cones to add to it first thing tomorrow. If you didn't make this load don't worry. Have heaps to fire and will probably start to load a bisque (first fire) on Sunday ready to fire later in the week.

01.01.2022 I chose to start loading the bisque today instead of a gloss. But as you can see it's a long way from being full. So, sorry I won't be in the studio tomorrow to fire this kiln. Hope to finish some of my work and fire it Thursday, but we'll see.

01.01.2022 Had to bribe the apprentice but the Sunday 'quick throws' are turned.
