23.01.2022 This weekend, type 1 diabetic ultra-endurance cyclist Neil McLagan attempted a truly epic challenge: cycling 500 kilometres in a day. On Saturday, World Diabetes Day, he slogged out 5 kilometre laps of Champion Lakes from midnight onwards, dealing with rain and strong winds for most of the ride. At 370 kilometres and after 16 hours of solid riding, he got to his edge an electrolyte imbalance causing severe dizziness, GI upset, double vision and muscle weakness and he coul...d not continue. But Neil’s spirit is indomitable. Yesterday, after a short recovery period, he got back on the bike and finished his 500 kilometre challenge, knocking out the remaining 130 kilometres yesterday afternoon and evening, and raising nearly $9000 for the Family Centre. Here he is with his welcoming party at the end of his final lap, celebrating a truly awesome achievement. Neil, thank you for inspiring our tribe with your determination, courage, grit, and physical ability. And to everyone in Neil's support network: the members of his family, the families and folks from our tribe, and Neil's friends, and especially his amazing partner Cara - - thank you for cheering Neil on and supporting him in this immense and incredible feat. Amazed and inspired? You can still donate! Link here: https://fundraise.type1familycentre.org.au/neil-mclagan What a way to celebrate World Diabetes Day!

The Family Centre is determined to turn health o...utcomes in the type 1 community around, but we need your help. Your gift to the Family Centre will go directly into services that raise confidence through education, provide on-point healthcare, create essential peer support networks, and advocate for our community. We do not receive government funding, and your support really makes a difference. Think of us this Christmas https://christmas.type1familycentre.org.au/

20.01.2022 LIFE WITHOUT LIMITS: NEIL MCLAGAN Cycling 500km for The Type 1 Diabetes Family Centre Donate today: https://fundraise.type1familycentre.org.au/neil-mclagan Father of three and accomplished ultra-endurance cyclist, Neil is on a mission to prove that a life with type 1 is a life without limits. Diagnosed at age 17, Neil struggled to manage the complex disease for the first ten years, feeling isolated and alone. Neil found his way by connecting with others and using resear...ch and personal experience to break down barriers. In 2018 Neil proposed that he would ride solo from Perth to Sydney demonstrating that type 1 diabetes does not place limits on a person’s capacity to achieve remarkable goals or big dreams. Neil conquered the enormous feat, successfully cycling the 4011 kilometres solo, and unsupported, from Perth to Sydney through some of the toughest conditions imaginable, proving that type 1 poses no barriers. Shortly after, Neil faced another more serious event, nearly losing his life in a cycling accident. This left Neil with permanent physical and mental injuries which have made life more challenging. But a challenge is something Neil has never stepped back from and has worked very hard to overcome. It was through this journey that Neil realised his passion for advocacy and has dedicated himself to sharing the message and raising awareness and vital funds for the Type 1 Diabetes Family Centre. On November 14 2020, World Diabetes Awareness Day, Neil is once again set to break barriers and prove that life with type 1 has no limits, as he rides a colossal 500 kilometres in one day around Champion Lakes, raising awareness and inspiring people young and old.
