25.01.2022 First day back in the studio yesterday! So many exciting projects planned for 2019 - but first, lets reflect on the year that was 2018!! It was a BIG year!! So many projects planned, approved and constructed. We navigated Council, we digested some challenging briefs, we stood awestruck on spectacular sites and were inspired by all the wonderful people we worked with! 2019 will be even better - and we can't wait!

24.01.2022 It doesn't get more exciting than this site! Commissioned to design a new house on this site, the "cliffhanger house" has had to respond to the some of the most complex requirements we've had to face so far... and we have navigated this all and just had DA approval granted!! The site has been assessed as being in a BAL FZ (Flame Zone) bushfire zone... the word "bunker" comes to mind... but this house is anything but that! Sitting lightly on the rocky outcrop, and teetering o...n the very the edge of the cliff, this house has been designed with so much care and precision that it responds perfectly to its site, stepping and undulting floors keep the building aligned with the topography, and carefully placed fire-rated windows frame and capture the bush views. Working closely with an ecologist, we are able to protect the natural beauty of this site, retain the bush setting and look after any creatures who live here too. Our client's refreshing desire to construct a small (but very beautiful) home has pushed us to rethink the efficiency of every space. His vision has married perfectly with ours, meaning that we are in unison as we take the next steps forward and refine this house and start working through the detailed design stage. We'd love to share some images of the house... in time we will... but this little house is still evolving, getting better, more beautiful, so when we draw a line and say "we are done" we'll share what we've created! 23.01.2022 Meet Amanda! Amanda adds such depth to our team... with a keen interest in sustainable living (as well as sustainable design!) we are constantly inspired and challenged to be a more sustainable practice (gone are the takeaway coffee cups!!!), and with a really solid understanding of how buildings are put together and strong design skills we couldn't imagine the studio without her!! Amanda is currently building her own sustainable home... pushing performance to the max - how exciting for us and for our clients to have an in-house case-study to draw on! 22.01.2022 Our lovely clients in Mittagong have just listed their home for sale! We enjoyed every moment of working with the owners of this 1950's cottage in 2015 to incorporate a stunning new extension - they had the most beautiful sense of style and a very keen eye for detail. With burnished concrete floors, a beautifully appointed kitchen and a skillion roof, this gorgeous house is now the most stunning sun-trap and a perfect family home. 21.01.2022 Lately, we've been looking at so many small houses... today's planning controls give you the flexibility to get so much more out of your site; either as an investment, extra income or more space for family and friends! These examples are all beautiful... and some inspiration for anyone looking to build small, but smart!

21.01.2022 10 years ago I was lucky enough to be working with architect Peter Stronach when he designed this gorgeous Mittagong Farm house - a sustainable, contemporary home in the country. It was a pleasure to see him at work, designing a home which looks so beautiful and is so comfortable to live in. Recently, the owners reached out to us to add two sweet ensuite bathrooms to the guest rooms, and it was such a pleasure to work on this house again, remembering the beautiful way it was all put together, and seeing it look so striking (and so relevant) 10 years on! It was such a treat seeing this house in the June/July edition Highlife Magazine Southern Highlands and hearing the owners speak about their home. Beautiful, sustainable, contemporary architecture is timeless... what wonderful read!

21.01.2022 Last Friday we were invited to a walk-through (and party) to celebrate the completion of our Oxley Hills Road project in Bowral. We now know the house is perfect for a party!! We have worked on this project for the last 3 years... making sure that every aspect of the client brief was fleshed out, documenting the design, pouring over details and working with @AJCorbyConstrctions and @luci.dinteriors while the project was being constructed making sure it was all coming togethe...r beautifully. It's lovely to reflect on a project like this as it draws to an end... thinking about what made it such a success. Yes, getting the design right is important... but having such a trusting, open, constructive, creative relationship between clients and architects is what really makes this work. Collaborating with the right project team, making sure we are all working towards a common goal, and creatively on the same page pulls it all together!! And having a builder who can execute such a precise, complex, beautiful build is what every architect dreams of! We have been so lucky! To our lovely clients, it has been such a privilege working with you... and we couldn't be happier that your family has the joy of living in this beautiful home. This week, lovely Madi joined us... took on a design project, developed her scheme, sketched it up, jumped onto #vectorworks and produced a full set of 2D and 3D drawings.... then presented them to us!!! And she nailed it!! Great job Madi... you have an amazing future ahead!

15.01.2022 Had such a fun day in #Canberra... checking out the new @winnings appliances flagship store looking at all the new and fabulous appliances available, and treated to a delicious lunch cooked by their in-house chef. Our focus was on all things integrated... and we were totally inspired!! So... what's new in appliances? There is now even more choice available if you want to integrate your fridges... we loved seeing a fully integrated @fisherpaykelau french door fridge on displ...ay, and only needing 650mm depth it takes up so little space and could be accommodated quite easily in most kitchens. But there were loads of other brands doing the same, so there's plenty of choice! We had a chance to see new steam-combi ovens in action, with our whole lunch cooked in one of these beauties by Winnings in-house chef! We learned all about cooking with steam... no wet-soggy cooking... but instead moist, crispy dishes came to the table! Yummo! Energy efficiency is reaching new highs in washers and dryers, with a huge selection of appliances which are exceeding the standard 5 star ratings... And lastly, we were super impressed to see a huge selection of induction/gas combination cooktops... perfect for the highlands where having a combination helps us cook through power outages, and perfect for clients who love using both in their cooking! Huge thanks to the team at #winningsapplicances for hosting us for the day... the showroom is gorgeous, and definitely worth a visit!

15.01.2022 In the studio we know the importance of 3D design in all our work. It's not only for clients to visualise their projects but for us as designers to test ideas, passive design, materials and many more elements to fully explore each proposal. With this in mind we've taken the next step into photorealistic visualisations, not just for presentations but for making real time decisions that would otherwise create delays on site. See a snap shot of our progress with our recently submitted Gerroa Beach House! Plenty of screen real estate needed, and why use two monitors when you can get one the size of two!!

15.01.2022 Solar access is great... but controlling the summer sun is essential! These gorgeous steel sun-hoods do the job perfectly on our Cornwall House project. @gibraltar_constructions have put this house together perfectly - and this shows in their attention to detail!

14.01.2022 This grand old Peddle Thorpe & Walker home in Sydney's leafy north shore needs a little bit of love, and what joy.... we get to work on this with an amazing client. This project needs us to be especially sensitive, thoughtful, and respectful to this beautiful old home... needs us to undo some pretty uninspiring alterations over time, but also be innovative, sustainable and creative with how we transform this house to suit modern day family life!

"Polish-American architect, Daniel Libeskind is an international figure in architecture and urban design. He is one of the foremost architects of our time and is a self-proclaimed rebel celebrated for innovative, site-conscious designs, including the Jewish Museum Berlin and the master plan for New York's World Trade Center Redevelopment." 12.01.2022 Last night, at the Ordinary Meeting of Council, our application for a mixed use development in Bowral was approved!! We were commended on this being excellent infill development, providing an alternative housing solution within the town centre, and we had Council's support in providing a full basement carparking solution and maximising what could be achieved on this site. We want to sincerely thank the planning and assessment staff at @wingecarribeeshirecouncil, our planning consultant (Darren Hogan), and a wonderful project team for getting this across the line! We are delighted!

11.01.2022 Back in 2015 we started work on a collection of beautiful, contemporary townhouses in the heart of Bowral. After countless hours of design and documentation and patiently navigating the approval process, it is so lovely to see them coming together! We use 3D modelling extensively in the studio, as a design tool but also to communicate the design to others... so seeing the final result so true to the original model is exciting - especially knowing that from beginning to end we have stayed true to the original design intent!

11.01.2022 Last night... with the support of Wingecarribee Shire Councillors, our proposal for the Southern Highlands Hospice was approved! We are beyond delighted! We have worked with the SHCH group on this project over the last two years... and we are so proud of the result last night. The project was certainly complex, and we have to thank a wonderful project team who added their expertise and helped pulled it all together, the SHCH group who were an amazing client group to work with, and of course the support of the local community who have supported the project from the very beginning.

09.01.2022 Today we celebrate this beautiful country and people, our natural landscape, our cultural diversity and our spirit. Hopefully we are also reflecting on what we can do to nurture our environment, be kinder to eachother and demand better from our leaders! And as architects, we are thinking deeply about what defines #australianarchitecture! . . Our architecture is responsive to place and reflects our unique way of living. We welcome sunshine, but we need to manage the heat. Sad...ly, we need to design for weather extremes... flooding, snow, heatwaves, hail, bushfire! We are getting really smart with using energy from the sun and managing our water. Our buildings are robust and work hard, but there is a lightness in the way we put them together. This afternoon he will be presenting his scheme to us all... and we can't wait! 08.01.2022 We have been so lucky to be working with the Southern Highlands Community Hospice group to design a new, purpose built hospice which will offer gentle, respectful and kind end-of-life care in Bowral. For anyone who has followed this group's plight over the last few years, you'll know that they have tried desperately to find the right site, and have a building approved. They came to us with a perfect site, right opposite the Bowral Private Hospital - and challenged us to desig...n a building which met all the specialised, medical requirements, but which had the look and feel of a large house - designed to make residents feel at ease, and make families feel welcome to come and visit and stay with their loved ones in their final days. We have poured our hearts into this project, creating a very special facility which sits gently within the Bowral Heritage Conservation precinct. Our project team has been wonderful, working with us to create something unique, and provide a much needed service to our Highlands community. The project now rests in Council's hands! We have satisfied all their requests, and answered all their questions. We now patiently wait for their support and approval so we can move the project on to the next stage, and one step closer to accepting it's first patients. See more

06.01.2022 This morning, we found ourselves at beautiful Barroul House in Kiama... a heritage listed building which is about to be shown some love! With construction just about to start on the restoration, we will be overseeing the construction on site as Heritage Consultants, making sure the works are consistant with the heritage report and schedule of heritage works. Being on site today, with the hustle of a construction site in full swing, made us recall the day we undertook the Arc...hival Photgraphic Recording on site with Gina Umoren Photography... 02.01.2022 So many complexities living and working in a digital age - where social media has infiltrated our personal and professional lives... but we can't even begin to explain our joy when our clients use the wonderful world of the internet to take us along on their journey of creating their dream home!!! There is nothing quite like seeing the project in their eyes... seeing homes take shape, share in their setbacks, see how much thought, and love and patience goes into every small d...ecision.
