25.01.2022 Bushfire Relief Distribution in Eurobodalla Shire 31.10.2020 https://www.youtube.com/watch Eurobodalla Shire is located 320km from Sydney and covers many suburbs. Hundreds of houses were completely destroyed by the bushfires at the end of 2019.... A group of 17 Tzu Chi volunteers left Sydney at 6:00am, driving approx. 5.5 hours to reach the distribution venue on 31 Oct, although the rain was pouring throughout the whole journey on the day. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, we had to take everyone’s temperature, ensure they signed in and maintain a 1.5 distance at all times. Only 30 people were allowed to enter the hall, so volunteers needed to multi-task, and separate residents into 4 sessions. 81 families attended this event and received Eftpos gift cards, eco-blankets, publication of Jing Si Aphorism and blessing letter from Dharma Master Cheng Yen. Although we could not hug or shake hands at the event, we still cared for the residents and their life after the bushfire, as a lot of them were rebuilding their houses or living in the same place at camps or simple cottages, with no electricity and water. Residents were all appreciate that Tzu Chi brought them love, care, compassion and energy, so that they could see hope in their future. They were grateful we still went to see them on such a wild and rainy day and had to travel a long way to their towns. After this relief distribution, our volunteers will continue to care about these people, joining them in their journey to recovery. Your generosity can help us give people the love and support they need in disasters, whenever and wherever they happen. Donation link: https://donate.tzuchi.org.au/

The unprecedented extents covered a total area of 5 times the land mass of Taiwan. Lasted nearly 6 months, they were finally put out in February with assistance of heavy ...Continue reading

19.01.2022 90 hot meals delivered to four places weekly - caring for homeless people, low income families and senior citizens from July - September, 2020. Due to the pandemic, a lot of people have lost their jobs, become homeless and don't have enough money to buy food. Sydney volunteers have worked with the church, community and senior citizen centres to provide nutritious vegetarian Asian fried rice or noodles, Western spaghetti, potato croquettes and burgers 14 times from July to Sep...tember, which has benefited 730 people and involved 124 volunteers. The Parramatta Mission manager said that the mission of the church is to promote a harmonious community, as they have a strong faith and believe that everyone has intrinsic love. Trust is their motivation for continuing to provide breakfast and take away lunches for the homeless. He admires Tzu Chi volunteers' smiles, and their sincere heart for helping people who are in urgent need. The Harris Park Community Centre has 15 low income families who request for fresh food, and they are happy to change from a meat to vegetarian diet every Wednesday. The Villawood Senior Citizen Centre had 30-40 elderly members attending activities and enjoying lunches in the centre before the pandemic. Although there are only around 10 regular visitors now, they are very happy to see Tzu Chi volunteers each week. Every Saturday night, young people (Tzu Ching) volunteering with the Loving Cross church group, to prepare 15 boxes in the Prince Alfred Square which are then delivered to people who cannot afford to buy food. We also provide hand sanitiser and cloth face masks to volunteers of other organisations, so that they can be protected well from the pandemic. This vegetarian meal distribution is very meaningful, as people can have hot food and feel love with no barrier of religion, race and country of origin. Every volunteer is very happy to help wash and cut vegetables, cook and clean up. Caring for them like our families, we are one big family indeed.

14.01.2022 On October 23, seven Tzu Chi volunteers visited Parkes Georgie's Food Pantry. Parkes is 360km away from Sydney, and we have been donating food and necessities to the pantry for one and a half years. It's open to farmers free of charge every Friday. The Forbes and Parkes areas have been severely affected by the drought for four years, with livestock and grains needing water to survive. Tzu Chi volunteers visited in 2018 and decided to supply fresh vegetables and fruit, pantry ...food and household and cleaning products to local community by ordering online once a month. All the items were carefully picked by the volunteers and the pantry volunteer Derrick was happy to receive the necessities every month. The manager Natalie was grateful that Tzu Chi really helped their farmers for their hardships, so that they could save up money for buying food, water, seeds or hay for farm use. The food pantry prepared a gift for Tzu Chi. They were two pictures; one was a drought and dry scene from 18 months ago, and one was a green and fresh scene depicting the current scene. It depicts the same place, however with very different contrasts, volunteers appreciated the gratefulness of the staff. Residents watched a 10 minutes video about Tzu Chi's charity work in Australia, after which, the pantry volunteers were able to know more about us and the works we did in Australia throughout the disasters including floods, droughts, bushfires and the pandemic. They returned two full bamboo banks which we gave them last time when visited. Tzu Chi will finish our pantry project at the end of this year, and hopefully volunteers will see the pantry staff and the farmers when visiting them later in a happier time.

08.01.2022 Hot food to light up hope. Tzu Chi Australian volunteers co-operate with other organisations to help low income, no-income families and the homeless. Because of the Coronavirus, Australia is facing a second pandemic - the economy being deeply affected. A lot of people have become unemployed and they queue up for free food, together with seniors, the disabled and homeless. Tzu Chi volunteers care for these people, whilst promoting Vegetarianism, and the feedback has been very...Continue reading

07.01.2022 Sydney, Australia has been affected by the pandemic and like every country in the world, many low-income families have suffered from reduced work, therefore making it difficult to afford their children’s school fees. Tzu Chi’s volunteers helped five students from Burwood Girls High School with paying their school fees, so that they can concentrate on their school work and activities. On 20th May, 15 Tzu Chi volunteers helped set up six tables in the large hall, prepare a vege...tarian lunch, and provide Ji Si gifts. Burwood Girls High School’s Principal Mrs Kumar said on the day, Congratulations to the five recipients, thank you to the parents for supporting the event and thank you for the lunch and wonderful gifts Tzu Chi provided today. Although this is the first time Tzu Chi have distributed study assistance at Burwood Girls High School, Tzu Chi has been renting the school for their Chinese classes on the weekend for the past 23 years, bringing humanity education to the school. Guy McCulloch, a teacher at the school said, Tzu Chi will be mentioned in our HSC religion course as we discuss Buddhist and Buddhist environmental ethics, and Tzu Chi’s relief program where they create blankets out of recycled materials which they then distribute to people in disaster affected areas, helps people whilst also helping the environment. Tzu Chi Australia co-operates with Burwood Girls High School to help students with their school fees and wishes that this form of charity can take place in other cities and help more students and their families. #TzuChiEducation # #

03.01.2022 SA Kangaroo Island Bushfire Relief Distribution Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, Tzu Chi Adelaide volunteers could only travel to Kangaroo Island to distribute the aids and reliefs 6 months after the bushfire disaster. A group of 20 Tzu Chi volunteers reached the distribution site on 29 August, carefully unloaded the supplies and set up the site to ensure that the restrictions round social distancing are observed in preparation for the distribution the following day.... 38 families attended this event and received Eftpos gift cards, eco-blankets, publication of Jing Si Aphorism and blessing letter from Dharma Master Cheng Yen. Our volunteers also posted aid packages to another 26 families who were unable to attend at the distribution centre. Despite after half a year, those affected residents are still saddened by their losses. Many shed tears of gratefulness when they received Tzu Chi aid packages. Mayor Michael Pengilly attended the event to better understand Tzu Chi’s distribution activities. Our volunteers introduced the story of the bamboo bank and explained that the emergency relief funds were funded by members’ donations through ad-hoc donation appeals and longer-term contributions. Tzu Chi volunteers gathered to care about families affected by disasters, so that they can soon recover and resume their livelihoods.
