25.01.2022 Poster to go up. Hope it's ok.
24.01.2022 A report on U3A Kapunda Community Garden project workshop today.
23.01.2022 Latest from the Ukapundas. 2 weeks suspension. Message from Sandra Heath passed on from Jan Harman. Following the shocking news of a possible second COVID wave and the updated advice of the SA Government, as a precautionary measure, I have suspended the Ukulele Group for two weeks. Hopefully, we'll be able to enjoy our final session on Wednesday December 9.
22.01.2022 U3A Kapunda and Districts is formally in recess. With U3A Kapunda & Districts going into recess members no longer have any of the protections that have been provided in the past, and effectively they are meeting at their own risk. Please pass this on to others as only a small number have signed up to this Facebook group. Posted by instruction of Jan Harman, secretary.
22.01.2022 Promise, last post about us. Detailed information is available on the sharing wisdom site, dedicated page for U3A Kapunda Community Garden project.
21.01.2022 Been struggling with the way to make this a living interactive page so that members can communicate about things that they love and perhaps connect and draw us into being a more coherent group. There is a reason why people just read or not get involved and don't use the potential of this media effectively. I won't go into my ideas on that, but it probably goes back to tribal origins and not wanting to stand out, plus of course unfamiliarity with the new media. It takes time a...nd effort to build up skill, like learning a new language. So I thought, perhaps if there is some sharing of our life experience and interests. Each of us contains volumes by now, just bursting to be communicated, but waiting for a non threatening setting. With the modern attention span, we have to give up on passing on too much wisdom to our grandchildren, they learn by our example anyway I'll try to just lead and not overwhelm as is my tendency---- promise! Every like, or serious contribution is a little step to genuine sharing, and as moderator I will be happy. Everyone knows the rules by now, mutual respect, inclusion and I will add to start with , positivity. Every so often I'll post a new topic. The first one is favorite or most influential poets, or authors, or poems singer songwriters, songs or short stories. For the brave, post some examples of your own.i will post examples and comment constructively. You will be able to post in the comments, so each topic will be like a tree going down. If you want me to post for you email me on [email protected]. The next , perhaps next week will be art and artists and an idea or photo of what we're working on now. I'll keep you warned about what is coming up. You could put a poem in the art or art in the poem section . Put yourselves out there! Just try not to jump straight into negative current politics, we can do that when we are more familiar. This game is deliberately one step removed to build comfort gradually. And to make it a level playing field, nothing about gardening. Ok, I'll start with some poets, singers, songs, that have deeply influenced me.

19.01.2022 Kapunda & Districts U3A Ukulele Groups ‘The Ukupundas’ and ‘Pickulele’ I recently received from the State Government the Ukulele Groups’ two updated COVID-Safe Plans Step 3 Alert Level 1. These Plans now include the obligation to have a certified COVID Marshal ‘on duty’ to ensure compliance with our COVID-Safe Plans and Guidelines. Meet the Ukulele Group’s COVID-Safe team:... COVID Marshal: Sandra Heath Immediate Deputy: Jeff Heath Stand-in Deputies: Julie Bricknell and Nienke Maitland All the above have successfully undertaken the online training course and assessment and are certified to do this role. But, as Jeff said in his song, 'Streets of Covid', we are all ‘Marshals’ and all have a responsibility to ensure everyone's safety by regularly sanitising/washing hands, staying apart 1.5 m, remaining home if sick, getting tested if showing symptoms and self-isolating until results are known. By everyone taking care and following our COVID-Safe Plans and Guidelines, which all Ukulele members have a copy of, I am sure that we won’t need our Marshal and Deputies reminding us of our obligations. 18.01.2022 Artlab workshop coming up soon. Next Wednesday!!!! Expand your interests, support your U3A
18.01.2022 Finally I can reccomence our Facebook page! The South Australian Government has started to ease restrictions imposed due to the Covid 19 Virus. In response to Enquiries on when U3A Groups might reopen, lengthy discussions were held at a meeting on 16/6/20 - the Motion below was adopted by the Committee on behalf of our autonomous Kapunda Branch. The Committee recommend that U3A Convenors consider recommencing activities in Semester two, if they feel confident, they can m...eet all COVID 19 requirements, such as: * avoiding sick persons attending, *keeping written details of attendees names/phone numbers, *following social distancing guidelines & provision of hand sanitiser and BYO. This decision would be subject to change if necessary. At this time there is no official Semester two programme however if progress remains good, with no secondary outbreak, some may step forward and offer to run new Groups. Because Courses were curtailed, it was felt no money should be needed to complete them. From 1/7/20, it is up to the Convenors to consult with their Groups and advise Jan Harman of their decision, to continue or not. There is no pressure to continue. State Branch of U3A can then be advised & Group Insurance reactivated. The Secretary will telephone Convenors and distribute this information in writing. Committee of Kapunda Branch want to support Members continuing and will reimburse Hall Hire, hand sanitiser and tape to mark social distancing requirements. Light Council may hire space such as their meeting room or Council Chamber, providing new options. Groups may need to make a Covid Safe Plan, or change venues as some Community Halls have closed. Light Regional Council are prepared to hire (and clean), the Hall Street Institute, Main Hall/kitchen by up to 50% - to as low as $5 hour. Enabling some of the larger Groups to Socially distance and providing an excellent alternative. Should it be necessary to change premises, any goods currently stored, may need to be shifted to a new venue. A Committee Meeting is scheduled for mid July to review progress. We hope to confirm resumption of Book Club, Community Garden, Jill May’s Exercise Group, Sandra Heath’s Ukulele and others, early Second Semester. Jan Harman Secretary U3A Kapunda and Districts Thanks so much Jan Harman for bringing this information together.

14.01.2022 Ukapundas update Sandra have me permission to post the gist of her ukapundas email on this U3A Kapunda and districts Facebook page. This will serve to keep our U3A members informed of the state of play. Please contact Jan Harman our secretary with any further updates or news or me David Mackinnon 0466689128 [email protected] or through messenger so that I can establish this page as a place where genuine communication occurs.... ‘Ukupundas’ and ‘Pickuleles’ Following today’s Press Conference where the Premier, Police Commissioner and Health Advisor explained the State’s plan to stop the spread of COVID, which included all the newly-imposed restrictions, I have regretfully decided to cancel all Kapunda Ukulele Group activities for 2020 - taking effect immediately. This includes all remaining sessions, ‘Limelight’ and attendance at The Adelaide Picnic and Alastair’s wedding. This decision was not taken lightly. My main concern was all our health, safety and well-being. Hopefully, we’ll be able to recommence in Term 1 2021 on Wednesday, January 27. From Sandra Heath.
14.01.2022 An update . The grass has been growing very fast. We're pulling out all stops to get it cut before we have a fire risk. It's a lot more work with our no spray policy, but worth it in satisfaction

Mildred Street Kapunda Wednesday at noon contact David MacKinnon 0466689128 by text. We received a big busload of excited, interested, down to earth people from Elizabeth and surrounding areas. The community house is close to where I grew up, so I was delighted to make connections. We had a huge lunch, sang along to some old favorites, then embarked on seperate tours conducted by Debbie Nelson and myself. They took lots of seeds and cuttings home. Looking forward to heaps of future workshops and interactions. See more

11.01.2022 We have had excellent publicity in 'The Leader' two weeks in a row. Thank you so much from U3A Kapunda and districts for your excellent and tactful reportage, and thank you to the roaming reporter who is a pleasure to work with. Sandra and Jeff Heath from the Ukapundas and the U3A community garden project participants are delighted with the reportage. I'll add some extra photos from our ukapundas photographer David W. ASAP
10.01.2022 WE’RE BACK! Yes, the Kapunda Ukulele Group, ‘The Ukupundas’, re-opened on Wednesday, 22 July at 9.30 am in our new venue the Soldiers Memorial Hall, Kapunda. Following the sanitising of hands and chairs, members settled in to an exciting session of uking, singing, laughing and generally having fun enjoying one another’s company.... As depicted in the photos, we physically distanced, both sitting and standing, allowing space for any sprayed droplets from our singing to disperse. We really missed our usual personal greetings towards one another and Charmaine’s yummy morning tea, as the kitchen was closed due to following our strict COVID-Safe Plan which Sandra Heath, the leader of the group, compiled and is closely monitoring. But all that didn’t stop us having a wonderful two hours of music, laughter and friendship. After warming up playing ‘our’ song, ‘Ukupundas Band’ followed by ‘You are my sunshine’, we then had fun learning the new song, ‘Battle of New Orleans’. Following a BYO morning tea, where we caught up on everyone’s news, we continued with our Jam session, which included a host of songs from a range of genres including Dolly Parton’s ‘Jolene’, ‘Bad moon rising’ by Creedance Clearwater Revival and Jud Strunk’s ‘Daisy a day’ plus a fingerpicking melody, ‘Heart and soul’. It was so great being back together again and we’re all looking forward to next week’s session and the rest of the term’s uking. Anyone who can already play ukulele or enjoys having a good old sing along is welcome to join us Wednesday mornings, during school terms, 9.30 am 11.30 am. For further details, please contact the leader, Sandra Heath on 8524 6041 or email [email protected]
09.01.2022 U3A Book Club meet this afternoon to review the recent Miles Franklin Awarded Book The Yield. It is well deserved & if in my power, would become required reading in all Secondary Schools in Australia. Fiction that is based on fact and far exceeds what one could expect from a person of such youth. If anybody wants to understand why black lives matter and we all need to be part of the change, read this book!
08.01.2022 the U3A Kapunda community garden project we have had strict protocols, a register, sanitizer and masks available right from the beginning. Considering the small numbers of late and the fact that it is an outside activity, we will continue the Wednesday working bees and the watering roster. We will, of course exercise even more than usual vigilance during this two week period and take it from there.
07.01.2022 What is U3A? U3A is an international volunteer organisation providing educational, creative and leisure opportunities in a friendly environment for people who are usually over 50 who are no longer in full-time employment. The concept has taken root in South Australia with 19 groups well established in the state. From humble beginnings the Kapunda U3A has grown exponentially, diversifying in subjects and increasing in expertise. ... U3A is run entirely by volunteers (It’s Members?) and draws on the knowledge, experience and skills of its members to learn from each other and share experiences in a relaxed, social environment. U3A Kapunda and Districts U3A Kapunda and Districts has been in existence for about 10 years and has about 100 members from the town of Kapunda extending as far as Gawler, the Barossa Valley and Eudunda. Courses offered in the past have included Computer Forum, a Choir (Kadence), a book club, cooking classes, indoor bowls and petanque. Due to covid, all courses have been in recession, but we now have the go ahead from the committee to restart where applicable and safe. Balance and Bones, the Ukupundas, U3A Kapunda Community Garden project are all holding workshops very soon. Details are posted on this Facebook page. Strict and current Covid protocols will be followed. Please update in comments and send me an item if i missed you. We don't have a formal newsletter or programme at the moment, and could go back into recess at any time according to health advice. Courses may last for an hour or a year and, for a small annual fee, members may enrol for as many courses as they wish. Fees are An additional fee may apply for some courses. There is no accreditation, assessment or qualification to be gained. U3A Kapunda and Districts is an independent body which is run by an elected management committee of members. At the moment they are meeting monthly in order to sort out the intricacies of the current changing situation. Everyone is encouraged to contribute voluntarily to the running of this U3A to ensure it is an active and vibrant organisation. U3A Kapunda and Districts believes learning is a pleasurable experience which provides opportunities to mix with like-minded people who enjoy doing new things. Funds from these grants will assist the U3A in improving existing courses and help with developing new courses which would improve the well-being and life style of members of the community. Our original website has been replaced by this Facebook group. Please interact and above all comment, ask questions and discuss. David, committee member and moderator.
06.01.2022 Latest . Pay attention. Email will be sent to all members. Despite attempts to allow the various Groups to self determinate, regarding whether or not they continue functioning, it has become apparent to the Committee that Government instructions on personal distancing together with cleaning/disinfecting of surfaces makes it impossible to do so. An Executive Decision by our President, Bill O’Brien, supported by the Committee will close our Branch today at 4.00 pm 22/3/20. This is the only responsible action open to us and the State President will be advised.
06.01.2022 Please, we need pictures, plans, reports comments and discussion. Let's make this a living page! If you can't post directly contact me at [email protected] or text at. 0466689128 .
06.01.2022 Ukupundas Wednesday, September 16 With lots of fun and laughter throughout, we enjoyed another two hours of uking and camaraderie.... After our ‘warm-up songs’, we embarked on learning a new one by Daniel Boone, ‘Beautiful Sunday’, in preparation for leading this song during Ukelaide - The Great Adelaide Ukulele Picnic in December. The other songs we will be leading are The Monkees, ‘I’m a believer’ and ‘Urban spaceman’ by the Bonzo dog doo-dah band. During the morning, we were treated to a display of interesting and in some cases, unusual, musical instruments. These included a vintage guitar from the 1930’s, a home-made uke, African kalimba and djembe, banjolele, a range of little instruments such as castanets and Christmas bells plus, instruments made from ‘junk’ found around the house and shed including a diddly bow and lagerphone. It’s amazing what is nestled away in our houses and sheds that can be used to make wonderful music and entertainment! As usual, our session finished off with a rip-roaring jam of songs from a range of eras and genres including Ragtime, Rock’n’roll and Calpyso. If you can already play the ukulele or enjoy hearty group singing, then you might like to come along to our Wednesday morning sessions you would be most welcome.
