19.01.2022 How can anyone sufficiently thank someone who has been a volunteer tutor at U3A for over 20 years. It was a great honour this afternoon to host a small afternoo...n tea to honour 94 year young Anne Bryan who has tutored a French class all of those years. A highlight for Anne was meeting the U3A International President Professor Francois Vellas when he visited U3A Toowoomba in February 2020. Anne did not want a big send off and couldn’t have been happier on receiving a framed photo of her and Professor Vellas as a thank you gift. Anne is seen here with President Rhonda, Tutor Coordinator David and Office Administrator Trish. Thank You Anne and happy retirement. See more

09.01.2022 Thank you to all who attended last night’s U3A Computer Club video meeting. The main topic covered was QR codes QR stands for Quick Response and information is ...stored within its maze-like lines that can be read by smartphones. You are likely to see a QR code at the front of a Café, Restaurant on any business that needs to record your details. This is a quick way to direct you to a webpage without you having to type in the address. For Covid 19 tracking purposes it will take you to a page where you enter your details, First and Surname, email address, home address and phone number. By pointing your phones camera if it is a fairly new device 2017 onward or using a dedicated QR reader App provided you have an internet connection you will be taken to a page where you record your details and the time you attended. There are a couple of advantages to doing this on a webform, firstly it is more hygienic than people all writing in a book or on the one surface, you are only touching your own phone not sharing a pen that may or may not be clean. Also for most businesses if you have signed in online once next time you visit just scan the QR code on entering and you it should recognize your details and record the time in for you. During the meeting we looked at a very secure APP for scanning QR codes from Kaspersky it checks the website you are going to is a safe site. We found the app to be quick and easy. I and others have decided that this is the way to scan QR codes from now on. Kaspersky’s QR code reader and scanner it is a free APP available in the Apple Store and the Google Play Store Links can also be found on the Kaspersky Website https://www.kaspersky.com.au/qr-scanner There are privacy laws relating to the use of the information and penalties for businesses if they misuse the information for marketing purposes etc. Privacy: Collecting and storing personal information during COVID-19 https://www.covid19.qld.gov.au//covid-/information-privacy
