05.01.2022 Good news Kingston!

05.01.2022 Here's the latest edition of My Community Life. My Community Life is the City of Kingston's site for community groups to advertise and share.

05.01.2022 Kingston is looking better and better!

04.01.2022 MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT I just thought I would let you all know that Kingston U3A is very healthy management-wise, membership-wise... and financially. We have a strong committee, a healthy membership (almost 750 of us!) and excellent finances (Kingston Council has canceled our rent, which is our biggest expense, until early 2021). Our other outgoings are very low. We are negotiating positively with suppliers like cleaners etc. in ways which let them maintain cashflow but l...et us minimise spending. Convenors teach our members for nothing because they love their subjects. The committee works for free because they believe passionately in the U3A credo: Lifetime learning for all. Members pay a very modest annual fee to enjoy as many courses as they like and support the volunteer efforts of these 80-odd individuals. Who'll all be here for a while yet! Classes are continuing! Around one fifth of our Convenors are running classes online. About one quarter of members are regularly meeting via the Internet. This is remarkable, given the newness of the technology we're using and the gravity of the crisis... and its getting better all the time. In addition, Kingston U3A remains a vital contact point for senior residents, formally through convenors and classes, and informally through friendship groups. We will survive! What this means is the KU3A will live on long after the worst of this crisis. Our teachers are committed, our students are keen as mustard, classes are continuing and our supporters are strong. Kingston Council is behind us. The community is with us. 40,000 students Victoria-wide, in over 100 U3As, will guarantee ongoing interesting, entertaining, educational, exciting, healthy, challenging, fun class offerings Statewide. Were all learning heaps from this experience: How to teach outside the classroom. How to stay in touch with each other. How to remain positive in the face of adversity and isolation. As I said in my reflection in the last issue of our monthly newsletter "The Mercury" Im a glass-half-full sort of person. I hope you are, too. So: Three cheers! to the future. Hip-hip, Hooray! for KU3A! I look forward to many, many more years of exciting U3A offerings. And so should you. Please stay safe. And look after you and yours. RANDY MARSHALL President KU3A

02.01.2022 It's National Volunteer Week! If you get the chance, thank your Convenor, Committee Member or other KU3A volunteer for all their hard work over the years. If you're passionate about a subject, consider becoming a volunteer class Convenor yourself! Contact KU3A via Facebook for more information.
