25.01.2022 U3A SOUTH AUSTRALIA MEETING & AGM U3A Murraylands Management Committee representatives, Helen Elix (Program Coordinator) and Rosie Daish (Secretary), attended the U3A South Australia October Quarterly Meeting and AGM, on Friday 9th October. These meetings are attended by delegates from U3A Member Organisations (20) across South Australia. A very worthwhile and informative meeting. A great opportunity to network and discover how U3A SA continue to support the Member Or...ganisations with passion and positive leadership. The meeting concluded with an open forum, where each delegate provided an overview of; the impact of COVID-19 in relation to courses, activities, attendances, challenges and success stories. It was a pleasure to be part of productive and well-run meeting and forum.

24.01.2022 ARMCHAIR TRAVEL with Maggie Davidson TOPIC: Highlights of UK and Ireland May/June 2019 Presentation: Monday, 26th October, 2020 President Bob England welcomed 35 U3A members and introduced Maggie, who is also a member of the Committee. ... It was an absolutely fantastic presentation with so many photos, commentary and personal stories of her adventures with longtime friend Margaret. Yes, the two Margaret's are world travelers and are referred to as 'Bill and Dave', Maggie is obviously 'Dave'. Maggie took us on a journey from Melbourne to England, Scotland, Ireland, Dubai and back home to South Australia. There were various maps and memorabilia on display, including an opportunity to test taste some Edinburgh Rock, Creamy Vanilla Fudge and Shamrock Shortbread. During Maggie's talk a number of people re-lived their own travels to some of the destinations shown on screen. There were many questions and Maggie answered them all, her recall and commentary was amazing. Thank you Maggie we all thoroughly enjoyed it.

20.01.2022 ‘PHOTO BOOKS WITH BARRY’ - 21st July 2020 Once again Barry Stacey has offered to share his talents and expertise with three, two-hour Photo Book classes. A small class of four are thoroughly enjoying the step by step instructions, with images and handouts prepared by Barry. ... Special thanks to Barry and helper Graham Hallandal, we are learning heaps of tips and tricks. We all look forward to learning more and preparing our own Photo books in the near future.

18.01.2022 ‘STROLLING WITH GRAHAM’ I managed to sight Graham strolling with his four-legged treasures on Adelaide Road recently. At a quick glance, although I knew it was Graham, I wasn’t sure about who or what was in the stroller. Like most of us we love our pets, and these fur-babies are much loved pampered pooches. Thanks Graham for being such a good sport having your photo taken for U3A members to enjoy.

17.01.2022 ‘WALKING WITH GRAHAM’ Friday 21st August 2020 20 U3A members and one visitor enjoyed an interesting walk at the Swanport Wetlands near Murray Bridge this morning. It's a nationally significant River Murray wetland. Ecological highlights include a wide range of fish, mammals, and waterbirds. It is also a special place having provided food and shelter for the local Ngarrindgjeri people.... The frogs were croaking loudly non stop as we walked through lush bush land, and meandered along the beautiful board walks. The biodiversity is reflective of a healthy environment. It was a cool 13 degrees, a little windy, sunny, perfect for walking, talking and sight seeing with friends. A number of walkers experienced these wetlands for the very first time and they were impressed as we all were. It was another great walk with commentary from Graham Hallandal and Bob England. Thank you once again Graham - we look forward to the next walk. Enjoy some of the scenery from today.

15.01.2022 ‘WALKING WITH GRAHAM’ Friday 7th August 2020 What an interesting walk today for 11 enthusiastic walkers in chilly weather. We parked at the usual spot and began our walk from there. Beanies, brollies, gloves and water-proofs were appropriate as we headed off to a nearby cutting in front of the railway buildings. These building are in the process of being restored by the Historical Society. Hume Reserve was next, then onto the Lavender Federation Trail, using the recently... upgraded trail overlooking the Reserve. We ventured across the pedestrian bridge to the wetlands outlet and onto the levy bank. A large pod of Pelicans were cautious of our presence. Barry, Raelene and Helen took many snaps along the way. We certainly acknowledge the work of many volunteers and the local Council for taking pride in the development of this community asset. It's fantastic. The trail was well signed providing insight into the flora and fauna of the wetlands. Graham shared much of the local history throughout the walk which was very interesting. We followed the mail trail around the Wetlands past Thomas Foods, then up a short hill on the return trip to the Railway Station, admiring the historic railway turntable along the way. We could have extended the walk, however we didn't want to press our luck! We are always in great company on these walks, and we all thanked Graham once again for an interesting historical local walk. More please!

10.01.2022 'Brilliant red glossy petals, a symbol of sacrifice and blood shed by our incredible men and woman. We are also reminded of those who still serve in our armed forces today.' The seed pod (on the left) will scatter its seeds and bloom again another year. Our poppies are still blooming. They to remind us all to be grateful on Remembrance Day and every day.

10.01.2022 ‘WALKING WITH GRAHAM’ Friday 24 July 2020 26 excited U3A members were eager to get started on the first walk for 2020. Leader Graham Hallandal organized an easy 4km walk along part of the new Callington Spur Trail. We travelled on the Old Princess Highway to Tower Road arriving at Kinchina Conservation Park, such a spectacular elevated position. Graham provided an overview of this new section of the Lavender Federation Trail - a linear trail. It is designed for both wal...kers and mountain bikes attracting people from far and wide. Each member received a newly printed brochure highlighting photos, maps and where to find additional information i.e., www.lavenderfederationtrail.org.au It was a crisp clear sunny morning as we set off from Tower Hill. As we headed downhill the majestic views overlooking the town below were quite breath-taking. The sky was a brilliant blue, the country side a rich green colour following recent rains. Destination the Truckers Memorial on Adelaide Road, now surrounded by the beautifully landscaped gardens, paths, seating with public amenities nearby. As locals we often don’t take the time to fully appreciate what our rural city has to offer. We certainly did today! 04.01.2022 'WALKING WITH GRAHAM', Friday 13th November, with 22 enthusiastic walkers, arranged by Graham Hallandal Another fantastic walk along the new 'Tumbella to Wharf Trail', recently completed by Council. The terrain is flat with a very good firm surface. Sturt Reserve is in the first stage of a $3 million upgrade. Coffee and Chat followed at the nearby Community Club. As we began our walk from the Wharf, we noticed pigeons were startled as a freight train merged onto the brid...ge. The next stop was the magnificent Memorial, commemorating all those who served and those who made the supreme sacrifice. A great place to reflect. Walkers then set off across the lush green reserve and onto the trail. It was a very cloudy day perfect for walking, talking and taking photos. A playground was the perfect location for a short stop, something to eat and drink and some chose to play on the equipment 'for Grandparents' - caught red-handed! We headed back along the base of the river bank levee towards Sturt Reserve. Thank you Graham once again, for arranging all the local walks in the past months. We look forward to more in 2021 when we do it all again.
