24.01.2022 Paul Higgins shared his passion and enthusiasm for carnivorous plants with Swan Hills on Friday, complete with pictures and numerous specimens. An interesting insight into this specialist plant form. Here he is thanked by member Robyn.

20.01.2022 U3A Melville & Districts Region November has been an extremely busy month for our region. During Senior’s Week we participated in the Melville City Council’s Man Cave Mini Expo at the Blue Gum Community Centre, the Have’a’Go Day at Burswood Park, and we enjoyed a Thank You lunch with our valued Group Leaders and helpers at the Bentley Pines Training Restaurant. Twenty new U3A members have just completed the annual Mah Jong for Beginners’ Course. Over 12 weeks the enthusiastic... beginners learnt how to Pung, Kong and play a Goulash. They have now graduated and will hopefully continue to play at either or both of our Tuesday and Friday Mah Jong groups. We are preparing for our Annual General Meeting early in December, which will be combined with a Christmas luncheon and entertainment. The luncheon will be a celebration of a remarkable year.

19.01.2022 Brian Greedy gave a fascinating presentation on how facts from the past and present to paint a picture of how change occurs, and how it can defy predictions. His lively and often humorous presentation included some alarming predictions world population will be 9-10 billion b 2025 with 1.5 billion people living in slums; in the near future, diesel fuel will be banned and by 2025 it will be cheaper to buy an electric car than a petrol-fuelled car. His presentation included so... much more and left the audience with much to think about. See more

16.01.2022 The Wonders of Water On 6 November, Dee Tartt presented a fascinating story on The Wonders of Water. If you did not know anything about water other than it is a liquid you drink, then after her talk, you would have been amazed at the almost unlimited properties of this clear, odourless substance. For instance, it is the only substance that exists naturally in its three states, ie, solid (ice), liquid... (water) and gas (steam). Other interesting facts include: it refracts and reflects, it sticks and repels, it has a surface skin and it is the best solvent! See more
