25.01.2022 This week in our Bairnsdale Uniting Church worship@home service we acknowledge and honour Christ as king. Reverend Rosalie Rayment Hewitt’s message brings together passages from Izzy Keele in the Old Testament and Matthew in the New Testament regarding the reality of the Last Judgement. Jesus’ parable of the sheep and the goats reminds us we will be judged according to our treatment of the least of God’s people as well others HOWEVER God has a surprise for us Video link ht...tps://youtu.be/_4DI8PJTBIY or the church’s YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC26QQcZgL0KSPdyhAbsp3sA? or the facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/BairnsdaleUnitingChurch

25.01.2022 How about that!!! Thanks so much!

23.01.2022 some photos from last night's ZOOM induction of Rev Joedy Meers as the new minister at Lakes Entrance - with Presbytery Chairperson Ron Gowland

22.01.2022 Brownie points to Bairnsdale UC - The photo shows empty space in the church office. What it does not show is the many hours, weeks, years it has taken to create this empty space. Jean and Sue are celebrating today as the eight boxes of archival material have started their journey to Synod archives at Melbourne. Now onto stage 2 of archival work at Bairnsdale Uniting Church. And, yes, they have recording everything that they have sent off to the archives!! Well done - making good use of Covid downtime.

21.01.2022 How to wear a fabric mask safely during COVID-19: Don'ts

20.01.2022 As we mark 12 months on from the devastating fires that ravaged the beautiful lands of this country, we pause to reflect on those impacted through this life cha...nging experience. For many lives will never be the same again, many have lost loved ones, homes, livelihoods, safe havens along with so much more. We see the scars in our landscape everywhere, trees that have just disappeared, still scorched earth and bare ground. The loss of livestock and our magnificent native animals who had no place to hide and no way to protect themselves. But there are so many great stories as well which need to be told and heard. The gifts of time and talent to those in need runs deep everywhere, those who gave up time to help with fencing, giving clothing and goods to help immediately those who had lost everything. People like the Muslim families and communities gathering food and driving overnight to feed those fighting the fires and those who had nowhere to go. I myself have seen the human spirit triumph time and time again because others have stood side by side with those who feel lost and alone. Beyond the fire is a documentary series following the stories of Australia’s unsung heroes as they band together to create life from ashes after the Australian black summer bushfire crisis. Set against the stunning backdrop of Gippsland, Australia follow the journey through fire affected locations, connecting with local heroes to uncover courageous stories of overcoming heat, wind & flame: - PREMIERING 2ND JANUARY 2021 12NOON ON 10HD https://www.beyondthefire.tv/ See more

11.01.2022 Betty Wilson from Korumburra turns 100! Betty’s daughter Janet has sent us some photos from last weekend congratulations Betty! She wrote to Rev Arnie Wierenga - It was a wonderful weekend, a bit overwhelming for Mum I think, or more correctly totally overwhelming, and such a big day, even though there wasn’t a big ‘do’. She was thrilled to hear from you, and also there are some wonderful flowers from Presbytery, just absolutely wonderful, and so much appreciated. I talke...d to the tech. man at Glen Waverley, and there was mention there too about the lady with the 100th birthday from Korumburra. There are communications from the Queen, the Prime Minister, the Governor General, the Governor of Victoria, the Premier, and our state and federal members of parliament, seven in all. All really quite lovely. I had the thought that the great-grandchildren would be able to read these on the day, and that was almost the way of it, as they had copies of the letters to read as Mum opened each, albeit via Zoom. Her eldest great-granddaughter was beside herself to find that she would be reading something from the real Queen. So there she was, tiara and all. Zoom is pretty good, but it won’t ever replace the real thing. Your part with the message and flowers, added considerably/beautifully so thankyou. See more

03.01.2022 The Uniting Church’s National Safe Church Unit has released a new poster to coincide with National Child Protection Week 2020. The poster designed by Melbourne-...based illustrators Cat and Annie MacInnes depicts the ten National Principles for Child Safe Organisations applied in a Uniting Church context. Those ten principles are: 1. Child safety and wellbeing is embedded in organisational leadership, governance and culture. 2. Children and young people are informed about their rights, participate in decisions affecting them and are taken seriously. 3. Families and communities are informed and involved in promoting child safety and wellbeing. 4. Diversity is respected and equity is promoted. 5. Our people are suitable for work with children and committed to the values of child safety and wellbeing. 6. Child-focused complaints processes 7. Our people are provided with ongoing education and training on child safety 8. Physical and online environments promote safety 9. Policies and procedures document child safety 10. Review and continuous improvement of policy, procedure and practice National Safe Church Unit Director Rev. John Cox says engaging with the principles is essential if the UCA is to live up to its promise of being a safe church for all people. The theme of this year’s National Child Protection Week is ‘Putting Children First’, said Rev. Cox. This poster is an accessible presentation in our Uniting Church context of what we have to do to achieve just that. I want church members to look at this poster, think about and discuss the principles and talk with each other about how you apply them in your church, faith community, school or agency. The poster and the artwork is available on the safechurch.uca.org.au website in editable PDF form, so congregations, schools and agencies can co-brand if desired. It can also be made available in a range of digital formats for presentations. National Child Protection Week runs from 6-12 September. Further information on the principles and the UCA’s commitment to child safety through national policies and frameworks is available on the National Safe Church Unit website, http://safechurch.uca.org.au, or by contacting the Unit at [email protected]
