22.01.2022 Dear Students, We understand there is a possibility of some misinformation on the UC Nursing Student Facebook page regarding which Police Checks to undertake. Note the ONLY Police Checks that UC can accept are as per our website: https://www.canberra.edu.au//b/placement-requirementsLinks to an external site. Please check the NCHC-National Criminal History Check section on the website for the providers to use. Please do not use other sites as they will be rejected and you ar...e wasting your time and money. Remember, if your Police Check has been rejected on InPlace that there will be a note in the To do/Notifications section on your InPlace profile explaining why it has been rejected. If you need to discuss further please don't hesitate to call our office. 21.01.2022 Today is International Day of the Nurse. This years theme is nursing the world to health. With everything thats been happening around us, this couldnt be a... more fitting theme. Were also thrilled to recognise the winners of the ACT 2020 Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards. The awards are an annual event to recognise the contribution nurses and midwives make towards the health and wellbeing of the Canberra community. Congratulations to this year's winners: Nurse of the Year - Christopher Harris, University of Canberra Hospital Midwife of the Year Kathy Coonan, Calvary Public Hospital Bruce Team of the Year Britt Shephard and Shannon Narracott, Canberra Health Services Excellence in Leadership Heather Needham, Canberra Health Services Excellence in Management Mercy Lukose, Canberra Health Services Excellence in Educational Practice Rachel Bilton-Simek, Clare Holland House Excellence in Clinical Practice - Ward 11A Nursing Team, Canberra Health Services. 'This years award recipients, as nominated by their peers, demonstrate the highest standards within their winning categories. The skill, compassion, dedication and commitment to the health industry requires the highest of praise - these winners are great role models to the profession. COVID-19 does not define nursing. It highlights the professions attributes of tenacity and a definite commitment to our profession and patients regardless of the challenges we face in the clinical arena,' said Anthony Dombkins, ACT Chief Nurse and Midwifery Officer. Wed love you to share your stories of how Canberras nurses have helped you. Comment below to share your experiences or to send your congratulations to the winners! #IDN2020

This weeks gives Australians the chance to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. NRW falls on the same dates every year, beginning on 27 May and ending on 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey. The successful 1967 referendum and the High Court Mabo decision respectively. The theme for #NRW2020 is #Inthistogether2020. While Reconciliation Australia created this theme in 2019 without being able for foresee the events of 2020, it is now more relevant than ever. It reminds us whether in a crisis or in reconciliation we are all #InThisTogether. #NRW2020 #InThisTogether2020 #Nurses2020 #Midwives2020 #2020yearofthenurseandmidwife #UCNS2020 #ucannurse #stayhome #weareuc
