25.01.2022 So, "we are all in this together", Mr Morrison?

24.01.2022 Here's a link to last night's Zoom webinar on Islamophobia and Refugees: https://youtu.be/AYOCTEBmsGY

24.01.2022 Behrouz Boochani's journey to freedom in New Zealand is being told on Australian Story tonight :)

23.01.2022 The takeaways: There are 181 children in community detention in Australia, the Australian-born children of people who sought asylum by boat. They cannot access the Australian healthcare system because of their visa status (which is carried on from their parents despite them being born here). Instead, the same organisation who oversaw the neglect of asylum seekers on Manus and Nauru, International Health and Medical Services, will be responsible for their medical needs.

23.01.2022 It's satire, but the point stands: https://chaser.com.au//its-not-about-masks-its-about-huma/

21.01.2022 UC alumni Hedayat Osyan was featured by the UNHCR for his tiling business, which provides employment opportunities for refugees

18.01.2022 Imagine locking people seeking shelter up for years in concentration camps, replacing their names with numbers, denying them the best health care and taking away their phones - and then having the audacity to quiz migrants on Australian values.

18.01.2022 Two Archibald Prize contenders. @BehrouzBoochani & @ScottMorrisonMP The first thankfully escaped the hell that the second one deliberately created.

17.01.2022 Last night one of our brothers who is locked up on the third floor of the Mantra Hotel for almost a year, was transferred to hospital and after an hour they bro...ught him back and put him in an isolation room on the first floor of the hotel. He cannot go outside and must spend 24 hours a day in his room for two weeks. It is obvious that refugee lives do not matter for most of politicians in Australia. If the number of Covid-19 cases in Melbourne is ZERO, then why do they quarentine him? Is this what happens to other people who go to hospital for a few hours? He was imprisoned in Manus detention centre for six years. He was transferred to Australia for medical help. He is a human. The question is also why don't they quarantine the security people that take refugees to hospital? #GameOver

17.01.2022 Some of the people who were imprisoned on Manus and Nauru finally have their freedom in the USA, but it comes at a difficult time, with the pandemic still raging in many states. If you want to lend a hand, this appeal is one of the best ways to do so:

17.01.2022 A country of greedy, mean spirited, ignorant fools.

17.01.2022 We've all now experienced how hard lockdown can be, but imagine if you'd been unjustly held captive for seven years, and the government wanted to take away your mobile phones, your only lifeline to the outside world. This is the reality for asylum seekers. But there is a way you can help. The only way to defeat this legislation is for you to participate in Jacqui Lambie's poll, as she will hold the most crucial vote when the legislation comes to the Senate: ... https://www.senatorlambie.com.au/advise_jacqui See more

15.01.2022 Just so you know what Australian Values means these days. Read the Refugee Council's outline of the latest inhumanity of Scummo, Dutton and Trudge. How any LNP ...member or voter can sleep at night is a mystery to me. Permission was granted to circulate. Please join RCOA efforts to get some traction on this issue. See more

13.01.2022 This is absolutely disgraceful.

13.01.2022 So happy to hear that Farhad Bandesh is finally free We wish him all the best of luck for his future. Farhad's amazing art (as featured in our 2019 exhibition "Hopes and Dreams from Detention") can be found here: Farhad Bandesh Art

13.01.2022 BREAKING: A coalition of over 60 organisations have today launched the nationwide "Time for a Home" campaign, calling for immediate release of refugees from det...ention and giving the Morrison Government a June 2021 deadline to provide them with a safe place to call home. Launching the campaign, Farhad Rahmati, a human rights activist detained at Villawood detention facility, said: I am a civil engineer but I don’t have a future. The Australian Government has imprisoned us for 7 precious years of life, away from loved ones and community. We lost 13 brothers who died in offshore processing. It’s time for Prime Minister Morrison to give us freedom to start life again in a safe, new home. https://asrc.org.au//coalition-of-60-organisations-launch/ #TimeForAHome

07.01.2022 If a refugee has previously been kidnapped, mutilated and witnessed several murders, they have every right to seek asylum, and they deserve protection regardless of how they arrive. The definition of people smuggling under the UN implies a profit motive ("financial or other material benefit"), which is clearly not the case here. In the quest for a scapegoat, the government have stolen years of this man's life. "He has not seen his family in more than a decade and has never m...et his son, who is now 10 years old." Imagine, after having lived through all of this, if the government was able to take away your mobile phone (your last point of contact to your family and the outside world).

06.01.2022 "7 years is a long time. No doubt, it feels longer to people who have been detained indefinitely." 60,000 Australians have signed the petition from Amnesty Int...ernational calling for the Australian Government to accept New Zealand's generous offer to resettle refugees from PNG and Nauru. It's time to get this done.

05.01.2022 A young artist dreaming of a future in Canada after being stuck in Indonesia since he was 16 years-old. Help Murtaza Ali achieve his dream. Every penny counts!!! https://www.gofundme.com/f/canadian-resettlement-for-refuge

05.01.2022 Rebekha Sharkie MP and I will not support the Government’s prohibited items Bill. It treats visa overstayers and others in immigration detention akin to criminals. It’s a no go. #NoPhonesNoLife
