06.01.2022 Thanks to Evie and Jess, 4th year Physiotherapy students from the Australian Catholic University, for sharing their reflection on their recent placement at Maclean District Hospital. "We have had a wonderful experience at Maclean District Hospital, working in the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit. We have had the opportunity to work with a range of patients from stroke survivors, to deconditioned and post orthopaedic patients. This placement was valuable in developing our clinica...l knowledge as we were each given our own caseload to manage. This has allowed us to develop our skills within a gym environment that focuses on semi-supervised therapy and group activities with the goal of high volume repetitions. The opportunity to work closely with other members of the MDT has been extremely valuable. We have gained insight into the complexity of discharge planning, as well as the range of community services available in the Clarence Valley. Working together with social workers, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, allied health assistants, and the medical team has been crucial to development of our rehabilitation knowledge and ensuring patient-centred care.
