25.01.2022 How does UFE compare to hysterectomy? #fibroids #UFE #hysterectomy #sydneyfibroidclinic #womenshealth #health #sydney #radiology #women #fertility #heavyperiods

24.01.2022 Why should women try to avoid hysterectomies? Hysterectomy is a major surgical operation that requires general anaesthetic, few days in hospital and 4-6 weeks of down time to recover. Hysterectomy is associated with surgical complications and long-term side effects. Hysterectomy Risks: Anaesthetic complications, blood transfusion, DVT, injuries to other organs.... Hysterectomy Long-term Side-effects: Early menopause, prolapse, incontinence, sexual dysfunction, constipation, coronary heart disease. 24.01.2022 Adenomyosis in fact is a cousin of endometriosis. Same endometrial tissue that normally lines the inner cavity of the uterus has gone into the wall of uterus ( Adenomyosis) or outside of uterus (Endometriosis).Adenomyosis causes heavy menstrual bleeding and period pain. Endometriosis causes period pain only. Some women might have both conditions.

23.01.2022 How good is Mirena IUD for Adenomyosis? Mirena is actually a quite well researched treatment for adenomyosis. One study has shown Mirena could be as effective as hysterectomy for controlling heavy periods. A 3-year study has shown Mirena is also effective for period pain. However, satisfaction rate was only 56.3% due to side effects, such as prolonged light bleeding (25%), irregular bleeding (14%), and weight gain, ovarian cyst, lower abdominal pain and acne. Mirena is less effective if the uterus is larger than 150ml. Learn more about adenomyosis and its treatment, visit https://www.sydneyfibroidclinic.com.au//adenomyosis-treat/

22.01.2022 [IMPORTANT HEALTH SAFETY INFORMATION]: Recently, the fibroid shrinking drug Esmya has been pulled off the shelves following safety concerns regarding liver toxicity requiring transplantation. For women who are currently taking Esmya for uterine fibroids, they are advised to monitor their liver function at least once a month during treatment. If they experience symptoms related to liver problems like nausea, vomiting, yellowing skin/eyes, anorexia, weakness, and/or upper abdo...minal pain, they are advised to stop treatment immediately and seek medical help right away. Liver tests are also highly advised to be repeated 2-4 weeks after stopping treatment. In light of this impending health and safety risk and concern, what other alternatives are available for treating fibroids? For more information, visit www.fibroid.com.au

18.01.2022 Secret World of Interventional Radiology - Cutting Edge Technology without cutting

18.01.2022 In this down time it is nice to share a good news story : In November 2015, after suffering with a disturbingly heavy, painful and highly irregular cycle for a few years I had the Mirena IUD put in. That largely solved the problem for about a year and a half before the problems returned. Following an MRI, it was discovered that I had rather severe adenomyosis of the entire uterus and a UAE (uterine artery embolisation) was offered to me.... Its a very simple procedure that, along with removing an overwhelmed Mirena, has from the first period after the procedure resulted in regular and much shorter periods (2 3 days), very light flow, next to no pain at all during any stage of my cycle and a confidence that I will no longer make a mess, get caught out or suffer with the excruciating pain of the past. I had a follow-up MRI to discover my adenomyosis is completely gone! My cycle has remained this way for well over a year now and it has seriously improved my life in a way I could never have dreamed. I will be forever grateful for this treatment. N.C #adenomyosis #sydneyfibroidclinic #women #womenshealth #uterus #alternativetohysterectomy #health #radiology #painfulperiods #Mirena

17.01.2022 We feel extremely blessed to be featured on Sally Obermeders website SWIISH. Heavy periods and severe period pain is a very real problem for 1 in 4 Australian women. Unfortunately, adenomyosis is an under-diagnosed and under-recognised condition, which means many women needlessly suffer when she doesnt know what all her treatment options are. Its about time we talked about this!

07.01.2022 Our hysterectomy rate is one of the highest in the OECD and is overused at the expense of uterine preserving procedures, like UFE. Leading gynaecologist Prof Jason Abbott said: Many hysterectomies performed today are unnecessary.... Hysterectomy is a major surgical procedure that is often used for relatively simple uterine pathology, so you’ve got to weigh up the risks and benefits We perform about 250 hysterectomies per 100,000 women each year while Denmark has just 20 per 100,000, so we’re talking chalk and cheese here. 03.01.2022 Dear All, Sydney Fibroid Clinic is a boutique private specialist clinic. We see a very small number of patients each session and all consultations are by appointment. All our patients are otherwise well, other than their menstrual / fibroid issues. All our staff have not travelled out of Australia in the last 14 days and have been instructed to stop coming to work if they have any cold or flu like symptoms. Therefore, our clinic environment is safe, and we are still consultin...g in our rooms. All our hospital-based clinics are within private hospitals that mainly deal with elective surgeries and therefore NOT expected to be dealing with CoVid 19. However, if you are unwilling or uncomfortable to come near any hospitals, our St Leonard Square Rooms is in a brand-new commercial building that is less than 20% occupied. Therefore our St Leonards Square rooms possess the lowest risk of any potential exposure to CoVid 19. However, if you have travelled outside Australia in the last 14 days or have any cold or flu-like symptoms, please DO NOT come to our clinic, but ring and reschedule your appointment or change your appointment to a telephone consult with Dr Liang. Take care, Kind Regards, Dr Eisen Liang & Anna Office Manager / PA Sydney Interventional Radiology / Sydney Fibroid Clinic

01.01.2022 Does ablation reduce heavy bleeding? Will ablation worsen period pain? Should ablation be used to treat Adenomyosis?! Endometrial ablation uses heat energy to destroy the inner lining of the uterus, so bleeding will be reduced. However, glands in the muscle (adeno= glands; myosis in the muscle) will be trapped. Some has described this as sealing off the juice on the BBQ hot plate. Bloating and period pain can get worse. Even with modern technology, adenomyosis deeper than 2.5mm cannot be treated by ablation, according to a 2015 study. (BTW if MRI is used for diagnosis, the depth is 12mm minimal!). There is higher rate of subsequent hysterectomy if ablation is used to treat adenomyosis.
