25.01.2022 We congratulate ACT Labor and the ACT Greens on their electoral success, and on the signing of the Parliamentary and Governing Agreement for the 10th ACT Legislative Assembly. Its great to see a high priority attached to the recruitment and training of additional firefighters: "Following the devastating bushfires that swept through the ACT in January 2020, and to cater to a growing city, the Government will: 7.1 Recruit an additional 99 new firefighters and add new fire trucks and equipment 7.2 Build new fire and ambulance stations in the City and Molonglo"

25.01.2022 Hospital cleaners are essential workers in the front line fight against infection. If ever they deserved a payrise... Yet their management have offered them a miserly 5 cent per hour pay rise. That's not 5 percent: its 5 cents. Please share widely.

23.01.2022 Please keep an eye out people. Firebugs are about.

23.01.2022 We congratulate the recruits of ACT Fire and Rescue College 43. Welcome to the family. We wish you long, safe and rewarding careers in the protection of the community

23.01.2022 Welcome to our newest members. Congratulations on your graduation.

22.01.2022 Today is International Workers' Memorial Day. We remember those who have lost their lives at work, and commit to work to prevent workplace deaths.

20.01.2022 Today Superintendent NOEL BISSETT OAM AFSM, 1 December 1937 - 25 April 2020, was farewelled at a private family service. As a measure of respect, firefighters across Canberra stood at attention in tribute at the time of the service, as COVID - 19 restrictions prevented a more conventional tribute. Members also paid tribute at change of shift. We extend our condolences to his family, in our sincere and solemn desire that he rest in peace.

17.01.2022 We'd like to thank everyone who supported us in getting this huge outcome for Canberra.

15.01.2022 We congratulate our member Fonz on being awarded the Australian Fire Service Medal. Well done to a great bloke.

15.01.2022 A serious breach of fair procedure has occurred in the Fair Work Commission. It is unusual in the extreme that a member of the Commission, let alone a senior member, would share information with only one of the parties in proceedings. It is even more concerning when the information is shared with a party that is an affiliate of the association that formerly paid that FWC member's wages. That is, BHP's industry association is AMMA, and AMMA once employed the FWC member. It is not only fairness that matters, but the perception of fairness. in the administration of justice, you cannot be seen to favour one side.

14.01.2022 Canberra’s career firefighters are saddened by the losses of life and property, and anxious for the safety of those who remain under threat from the current devastating fires. We are also deeply frustrated that we don’t have enough career firefighters to send any to help to our close neighbours, like we did with Black Saturday in 2009. The sad fact is that we have been advocating for additional resources since 2015, and we have made little progress. In this endeavour we have ...spent significant members’ funds, and will continue to do so until we succeed. We are over 900 days without an enterprise agreement: but its not about our pay Today, one of our members was quizzed by a community member about our industrial campaign, and it was implied that we were quibbling over industrial conditions while volunteers have lost their life. Concern like this is understandable. To clarify, the big ticket items we are seeking are: 94 additional firefighters 2 new firestations 3 additional trucks on the road Additional firefighting resources on days of high fire danger Better training to protect Canberra Months ago, our members overwhelmingly rejected a 10% payrise (in excess of the payrise that public servants already have). We have said that the money should instead be spent on the community safety initiatives listed above. We are thankful for the efforts of our Rural Fire Service volunteers and Land Management firefighters who are employed by ACT Parks and Conservation. Please understand our deep frustration that we are not in a position to do more in our professional capacity. Nonetheless, many of our members are deployed as volunteers in the NSW Rural Fire Service, protecting the communities where they live. If you are safe at home, and have the time, please follow the link below and help us to secure additional resources to protect Canberra. Thank you for reading, and we wish you all a safe and happy new year.

10.01.2022 There is $16.2 billion worth of planes grounded at airports across Australia. But instead of protecting them, Airservices is cutting the number of aviation firefighters at our airports. That’s just #planestupid

09.01.2022 We welcome our aviation branch comrades and their very capable equipment.

07.01.2022 This beggars belief.

07.01.2022 Today we join with our union colleagues from across the Canberra workforce to remember those who have lost their lives at work.

03.01.2022 Firefighter representatives worked hard through this term of the ACT Government to secure significant commitments to fire and rescue. This will see the single l...argest expansion to ACT Fire and Rescue since its inception. Two members of the ACT Legislative Assembly worked particularly hard to secure this commitment: Bec Cody for Murrumbidgee and Mick Gentleman MLA Please read the images below, and share widely.
