20.01.2022 I have intentionally left a message regarding BJMA & ZDK's 50th Anniversary until now. Words cannot do justice to such a momentous occasion and yet I will do m...y best. Soke Bob and Soke Richard are the founders of Zen Do Kai and yet when it was first started I think being named the founders would have been the last thing on their minds. These two mentors had no idea that the system they started would mean so much to so many and that it would spread across the globe. Soke Bob is ahead of his time and there is no denying he pushes the boundaries of the martial arts. He leads by example and always has. He has never accepted the word No, to him that word is spoken by those who don't have the internal fortitude to break down barriers and make things happen. Soke Richard in his own words was the second in charge, the lieutenant ready to make sure the students follow the orders. However, Richard also has stood out making mediocrity his enemy and leading the way overseas always spreading the system of Zen Do Kai, wearing his bushido cross and always being there for Soke Bob. These two men created a system which has spread into homes in Australian cities, country towns as well as throughout New Zealand and the world. They formed another ANZAC type bond with our New Zealand Brothers and Sisters which is still strong today. My final words are simple - THANK YOU. Thank you for making my life meaningful, for giving me the strength to deal with all types of struggles, for making me a better person and in turn I spread your ideas to as many people as I can changing our society one person at a time. Lead us into the next 50 years HURRA, HURRA, HURRA.

I would not be where I am today living where I am doing what I'm doing if it was not for these men. 11.01.2022 ZDK History bob jones The formal name of our style is Zen Do Kai Freestyle Martial Arts. The Japanese literal translation for Zen Do Kai is ‘The best of everything in progression. This means that the style encompasses aspects from many different martial art disciplines and puts them together to form a modern martial art. Although we still acknowledge karate traditions the style constantly re invents itself.... Within this style we include: Freestyle karate, kickboxing, boxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Arnis Eskirma Kali, Kendo and cardio fitness training. With an innovative and constantly updated curriculum to meet with the ever changing needs of modern society, training is always interesting, challenging and appealing to those of all ages. Bob Jones was well known in the Eastern States for his security work at concerts and nightclubs. Zen Do Kai was born out of a need to teach practical self defence techniques to his security personnel. Traditional Martial Arts were often found to be limited in their use.images Miyamoto Musashi the famous unconquerable Japanese samurai of the 17th century once said in his book ‘A book of 5 rings’ stated: Any man who becomes total master of any one discipline, has committed himself to a total waste of time. The media is constantly informing us of the violence being carried out against individuals in our community. Zen Do Kai teaches students everything they need to know about being safe. Zen Do Kai incorporates the ideal self defence techniques associated with Thai Kickboxing involving the use of elbows, knees, punching and kicking, this is added to the ground defence grappling skills of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and for the traditionalists the kicking power of Tae Kwon Do. Weapon training visa Arnis, Kendo, Bo and Katana are also taught in order to develop co-ordination and confidence for self defence purposes.

08.01.2022 A lot of people visited 48 Elizabeth St, but few had the inner strength to stay. It wasn't an easy dojo, it wasn't a social club, it wasn't just about signing up and paying your fees. 48 challenged you every time you walked through the doors. You had to want to be there, you had to know why you were there and you had to fight for your right to train there. You had to fight for the right to come back again and again and you had to fight like hell to get to the next level... no...thing was given, nothing was certain, you fought and put yourself out there for every step you took in your ZDK journey. Just like life.

06.01.2022 Mr ugly says For a small amount of perspective at this moment, imagine you were born in 1900. On your 14th birthday, World War I starts, and ends when you are 18. Later in the year, a Spanish Flu epidemic hits the planet and runs until your 20th birthday. On your 29th birthday, the Great Depression begins. Unemployment hits 25%, the World GDP drops 27%. That runs until you are 33. The country nearly collapses along with the world economy. When you turn 39, World War II starts.... You aren’t even over the hill yet. And don’t try to catch your breath. On your 41st birthday, the United States is fully pulled into WWII until you are 45. At 50, the Korean War starts. At 55 the Vietnam War begins. When you are 62 the Cuban Missile Crisis threatens to end life on our planet as we know it. When you turn 75, the Vietnam War finally ends. Perspective is amazing. Yes, we are in a challenging time nowadays. Try to remember everything that those born in 1900 endured and accomplished, and have faith that we will endure as well.
