22.01.2022 On the 4th of May the Upper Hunter Youth Council held its third meeting for the year hosted by Scone Grammar School at the Scone council chambers. We discussed a range of topics the successfulness of pink shirt day held at the end of last term raising awareness for the issue of bullying, also a students involvement in the Y NSW parliament and ideas for raising funds and awareness for the homeless in the upcoming months. Thank you to everyone who attended and their contributions and we look forward to continuing to develop and implement our ideas in future meetings. - Pru

17.01.2022 School holiday fun day 29th June 2021

03.01.2022 In the spirit of Reconciliation week, we take the following action. On behalf of the Upper Hunter Youth Council, who represent youth of the Upper Hunter and wid...er community, we would like to commemorate the significance of this day, June 3rd, Mabo Day. We honour the courageous efforts Eddie Koiki Mabo, a Torres Strait Islander man from Mer Island, who fought long and hard to overturn the fictional naming of this land as Terra Nullius (‘land belonging to no-one’). On this day in 1992, the High Court of Australia recognised that before Europeans occupied, ‘Native Title’ did exist, and that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples were the original custodians of the land. That the Europeans did not ‘discover’ Australia, and Aboriginal people were not ‘trespassing on Crown land’ by living on their own land. The Upper Hunter Youth Council recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples as the Traditional Custodians and the true protectors of the land beneath our feet, and pay our respects to the Elders past, present, and emerging, whose stewardship of this country has never ceased.
