25.01.2022 Lets go back 50 years for a look at the godfather of the baritone ukulele, Arthur Godfrey, playing with Doris Day. This video is from the 1966 comedy "The Glass Bottom Boat" where they perform the title song, then round it off with a little bit of Doris signature song, Que Sera, Sera. Enjoy! (o )==::

Charlie joined us on Tuesday morning and Im pleased to say that mum and bub are doing brilliantly. Thanks for all the love and support weve received.... 21.01.2022 DID YOU KNOW... When you type metronome into Google, you get a metronome! You can adjust the BPM (beats per minute) from 40 to 208. Once you pick a BPM and hit play, it will make a light knocking sound at that interval until you turn it off. Its a handy little tool to have if you dont want to download an entire app or carry a physical metronome around with you. Happy uke-ing!

20.01.2022 Happy New Year! This year Uke Got Rhythm returns just in time to celebrate the 7th Annual World Ukulele Day. What does this mean? It means it is time to warm up those strumming hands, pull out your music bags and tune up those Ukes. Classes return on February 1st at 6.15-7.45pm. Looking forward to seeing you all there. Melita

After spending 76 weeks on Billboards Hot 100 chart, it broke a record for the number of consecutive weeks spent on the chart. It is also the tenth best-selling digital download of all time in the United States with over six million downloads sold.

12.01.2022 FAMOUS UKES: The first man on the moon, Neil Armstrong loved to play the ukulele. In fact, after visiting the moon he spent several weeks in quarantine as scientists at the time feared he may have picked up strange bacteria while in space. He spent much of this time in quarantine strumming his uke.
11.01.2022 Archdukes of Uke Cliff Edwards (Ukulele Ike) 1895-1971... This week in the Archdukes of Uke we pay homage to ukulele legend Cliff Ukulele Ike Edwards. Born in Missouri in 1895, Cliff left home at 14 to pursue fame and fortune in Vaudeville. In 1917, Cliff purchased his first ukulele, a cheap Martin soprano, taught himself a few chords and ended up with a recording contract which saw him play, sing and scat his way through such songs as Ill See You In My Dreams, Nobody But You, and Its Only A Paper Moon. Cliffs biggest break came in the height of the 1920s ukulele craze. In 1924 he performed the first ever rendition of George and Ira Gerschwins Fascinating Rhythm on Broadway. These days he is probably most well known as the chirpy voice of Jiminy Cricket in the 1940 Walt Disney film Pinocchio. He was also the singer of Disneys signature tune When You Wish Upon A Star. 10.01.2022 Another fun night at UGR, and great to welcome back a couple of members who have been away for a while. We gave the fingers a good workout playing 4 Non Blondes 90s hit, Whats Up.
10.01.2022 HELPFUL TIP: Having trouble getting into the timing of starting a song? Play the last few bars of the chorus (the part of every song thats easy to remember) as a lead-in to the songs start. That should help you roll into that awkward beginning of a particular song.

07.01.2022 It is hard to believe we are already five weeks into this amazing ukulele year. For those who dont know the Melbourne ukulele festival is combining with the Darebin festival this year so we will have lots of time to learn those extra pieces and sharpen those skills. Last week our repertoire was influenced by our member Jan and those group members who wanted to extend their music reading skills. My girl was a winner with the beginner group and some extended 12 bar blues for our intermediates. More mischief will be had on Thursday so tune your ukes and bring those tapping toes.

06.01.2022 UKE TIP: Practice playing slowly The most important part of practice is playing accurately instead of playing quick. Its only you and your uke, so take your time and get those chord changes correct and your tempo regular. As your accuracy improves, then gradually increase your tempo. Dont be too hard on yourself... have fun!
