22.01.2022 ATTENTION UKI RESIDENTS Please do not drink the Uki town water supply. We have reports of dirty water in the system so for your own safety, please do not drink.... Boil the water before use for drinking, preparing food, making ice, pets drinking water, cleaning teeth and gargling. Water used for drinking or food preparation should be brought to a rolling boil. Water should then be allowed to cool and stored in a clean container with a lid and refrigerated. If you are unable to boil the water, household bleach can be used to kill disease causing organisms in the water. Add 10 drops of one per cent chlorine bleach per litre of water and let it stand for 30 minutes. If you cannot smell chlorine after that time, add another 10 drops. Dishes should be washed in hot soapy water or in a dishwasher. Children should take bottled or cool boiled water or bleached water to school. Tweed Shire Council is working to fix the problem and bring in alternative water via a tanker or bottled water. This advice should be followed until further notice. 21.01.2022 The fixing tasks started today... We'll be back soon!! Come on Uki!!

21.01.2022 Last week the player I was consulting/coaching at Wimbledon qualies, lost 8-10 in final set to an 'unknown' ranked 216, Sebastian Ofner. My player (who won a ju...nior grand slam) played his heart out, to which 1 or 2 points made the difference. Yesterday, Ofner (21yrs old) beat Sock to reach 3rd round. Doing my homework on Ofner before, I could hardly find anything on him. I then discovered that he only started playing ranking tournaments at 18! Last year he was ranked 571. In Juniors his highest ranking was 400! ( my player was top 10) No wonder I couldn't find much!!! Lesson: You don't need to be throwing kids in to the circus of playing tournaments early, week after week hunting ranking points. What impressed me about Ofner, was his ability to stay consistent in his routines and mindset, regardless of score or situation. Everything the player I was with, threw at him, Ofner stayed calm and in control. 0-40 calm.3-5 down calm. Double faults - calm. Bad call - calm. Crowd noise - he remained calm. No one is born like this. You train yourself to act and think like this. Just like game skills are practiced. Ofner was in total control of his environment and surroundings. He was mastering the controllables and the uncontrollables. His body language and control of emotions were world class. He gave little away to his opponent. A lesson in the power of the controllables. One thing I've noticed in players who have started later or are, let's call them, 'late bloomers' is that they love the sport even more at the right time - later, when it matters. They have not been burned out by the grind of tournament after tournament when young. One more thing, and it's big: it looked like Ofner was enjoying himself - regardless of the score! Finding fun in the fight and enjoying the opportunity to simply compete. Bravo Sebastian. You deserve it. You might have defeated my player, but the bigger and greater picture for all, is that you have proved that lateness in development, can be greatness later! #ChampionMinded

19.01.2022 Letter to every young athlete - Reality is, you are never going to realize your potential, if you cant master this one thing. Dear Athlete,... Heres something Id like to share with you that Id wish someone would have told me when I was growing up and playing sport. Fact is, like it or not, youre not going to play or perform the way youd like to, every time you step out to compete. In fact, You wont always win, performing or playing at your best either! Heres the reality: You will have more days that you ARE NOT going to be playing to how youd like to. Part of the reason why athletes get so down on themselves is due to their expectations and the fact that they want to play their way every time they step out to compete. The truth is its impossible. That might sound a little negative, but its the reality. You have always got to expect the best from yourself, (be confident), give your very best, but be prepared and ready to handle the way you are going to think when you arent playing how youd like to. Its not all going to go the way you plan it. You cant control that. But you can control how you are going to react it. Great athletes are great, not because they have brilliance, but because they are more self- accepting of their mistakes. They get over them quicker and know how to deal with it better. They are also consistent in their habits and routines. Thats the reason theyve won some of their biggest competitions or tournaments- playing far less from their best. I once read this great quote and it stuck: "In the heat of battle (competition), you dont rise to your level, you sink to the habits you have created in your practices. I love this quote because its so true. As a mindset & performance coach, I keep reminding the athletes I work with- that you become your habits under pressure. So, they better be good ones! I just read a piece on former French Open Tennis champion Gaston Gaudio. This is what he said: "Most of the time you dont play or perform the way you want, things dont go the way that you would like to, so you have to manage that. - Key word: Manage (Mindset management) Many years back, whilst living in South Africa I worked with Graeme Smith, The former South African cricket captain. This is what he said to me: I know Im not going to play the want to every time, but I can control how Im going to think about it. NBA star, Lebron James said that its impossible to play 80 odd games a season and expect to be firing on all cylinders every game. What matters is that Im trying my hardest every game, putting in the work. Some players put so much pressure on themselves thinking they can rock the floor every night! its impossible! Another client of mine, 3 time World Squash Champion Ramy Ashour, went to the 2014 World Championships knowing he wasnt anywhere near 100% fit, after 8 months being out injured. Being in touch with him by phone after each match, he simply said: I got through, even though not playing my best, but all that matters is that it was good enough for today to play tomorrow again. This is what a winner and champion understands; Just accept it and get through it! In my experience of working with athletes of all levels, Ive found that its those with perfectionist like personalities who are most likely to hurt their own performances by not accepting that they arent playing as well as theyd like to. But before I finish, let me share these 3 things with you: 1. A successful athlete accepts that they arent going to play their best every time they step out to compete. 2. They understand that success lies in the consistent control of their habits, emotions and mindset. 3. A Successful athlete understands that in order to win on their bad days, they need to continually give their best effort and believe they can actually win. They dont let a negative or bad attitude get in the way. If there is just one more thing I want to leave you with, its this: You are not defined by what you do or by your results. Rather, you are defined by WHO you become and how you handled the journey. Good luck. Yours Sincerely, - Allistair McCaw #ChampionMinded

18.01.2022 Huge thanks to all the people who turned out to help get the club back on its feet and cleaned out. Flood water went through the club rooms at a height of about... 5 1/2 feet. So everything was covered with mud and silt and electrical appliances badly affected. Even the tennis club rooms had floodwaters through at about 3 foot deep. But nothing that many hands, community spirit and about 5 gurneys cant fix! Incredible work and fantastic results THANKS is inadequate but please know it is heartfelt. See more

12.01.2022 How the Champion Minded Compete: When the champion minded compete, they are 100% committed to the process. They are 100% present and focused in the moment, bec...ause they understand that this is what gives them the best chance of succeeding. They dont think past, they dont think in the future, they think in the moment. The champion minded play free, because they have learned that playing with an outcome based mindset impedes freeness and only attracts fear. The champion minded compete hard, not just sometimes, but all the time. No matter who the opposition may be, they are always 100% committed to giving their best effort. No matter what the score or odds may be, the champion minded always believe they can win. They keep positive self-talk, especially in adversity. They also know that if you are 100% committed to competing, you are not complaining. They hustle. They fight. They never let up. They are relentless. They give nothing away. They display no negativity or body language, because they know it only gives their opponents hope. They are 100% focused on the controllables. More than anything, the champion minded compete hard. They judge themselves on what they gave (effort & commitment), not on what they got. Allistair McCaw #ChampionMinded Book release August 2017

05.01.2022 Parents; sometimes the best thing you can do for your child who plays a sport, is take a step back. Instead worry about your kid having fun. If they dont get ranked or always win, so what? Let them play. The rest will handle itself.
