19.01.2022 Julie Wylie on vocal development and pitch discrimination in early childhood https://www.facebook.com/Juliewyliemusic/posts/10159000374874415

19.01.2022 This week is the final week we are asking for your favourite songs. Come and join in the delight of seeing the children make their requests: we see lots of child-lead Musical play, solo singing and action songs. Starting in December we enjoy our festive program including Christmas and Chanukah and songs for summer holidays. Yeah!!!!

16.01.2022 Up so high, down so low, give a little shake and around we go Up so high, down so low, give a little shake and hold them so! We love creating playful variations of this song, using body percussion and up/down movements to match the contour of the melody. The meaning of the song is reinforced by actions, and children are invited to match the pitch variations using their high and low vocal registers. We can even add instruments - tapping sticks, tambourines, egg shakers, or be...lls! Join us every weekday morning. New friends welcome. Bookings essential to ensure physical distancing - please contact Jo to confirm your place.

16.01.2022 Do you know this tune? From birth, babies respond emotionally and attentively to music, anticipating phrases and actions of familiar rhymes and songs. We observe children’s responses to this well-known tune, allowing time for them to anticipate the words. Show ‘magic lips’ (mouthing the words) then sing the whole song together. Hearing and developing an ‘inner ear’ is an integral aspect of children’s musical development!

14.01.2022 Happy Jewish New Year to all our Jewish families and friends. Dov brought his shofar ( rams horn) to class this week. Here is his Tati playing it for us.

14.01.2022 Happy spring! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SsuqmqtW3Kk

14.01.2022 For little Joe who loves this piece. xxx An 8-hands piano version for you.

13.01.2022 Talk like a pirate day???!! What does a pirate buy from the Apple store? An iPatch. Why are pirates great opera singers? Because they hit the high C’s. ... (ABC radio) Got a pirate joke to share?

12.01.2022 The Five Little Singing Birds is beautiful counting song by Julie Wylie. This song reflects a musical interpretation of each native NZ bird and the way it moves, in English and Maori language. We use bird-sticks to show the birds and use our bodies to recreate the five different flight paths to match each bird in the song.

10.01.2022 We love Claude Debussy’s Clair de Lune (Moonlight). The piece takes its title from an atmospheric poem by the French poet Paul Verlaine which depicts the soul as somewhere full of music, where birds are inspired to sing by the sad and beautiful light of the moon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LXl4y6D-QI

09.01.2022 It’s almost Ukubebe’s Birthday!!! 8 smashing years of loving music-making with a wonderful music family! There’s an amazing surprise coming soon!! This pic captures one of the very first Ukubebe moments. I still love it.

09.01.2022 We enjoyed such a happy start to the term 4 program today! We sang and danced so many of our favourite songs. Please let us know your favourites! Each week day morning at Randwick: please confirm your booking so we can maintain social distancing. Jo

08.01.2022 Here is little Cameron who attends our young-toddler class with her Grandma 'Nah-nigh'. Jack-in-the-box is such a favourite song for Cameron and here she is at home, performing the actions while Nah-nigh sings the words. I love that this little action song invites active participation and young children can be in charge of how they move their body to the music - autonomy. It is also great for vocal slides 'up and down'... simple and effective.

08.01.2022 The power of music. We love this.

08.01.2022 Jack in the Box goes up, Jack in the Box goes down Can you go up and down with your voice to match Jack’s actions? The children love taking solo turns using dramatic movement and playful vocal improvisation. One of our faves from our Term 3 program :) Join us every weekday morning. New friends welcome. Bookings essential to ensure social distancing - please contact Jo to confirm your place.
