25.01.2022 Im flat out getting ready for another Open Studio weekend with the team of Arcadian Artists and friends. This is the 28th year Ive been involved and it gets better every year. 25.01.2022 Ive almost completed this amazing Brolga themed sculptural side-table. It was commissioned more than a year ago for a new home still under construction and Im really pleased with the work. The last part will be refitting the glass tabletop.

21.01.2022 Six oclock and Ive just about finished the preparations for our weekend Open Studios as part of Arcadian Artists Trail. The other exhibitors have left and calm has descended again. My studio will be open 9-4 both days at 38 Calderwood Rd Galston. Drop in to see all our new work and have a coffee or cold drink while enjoying our tranquil bushland setting. 21.01.2022 It will be the first time for me in 29 years that there wont be an official Arcadian Artists Trail this November. Organising publicity etc. normally begins now but with the uncertainty of the pandemic and the possibility of a last minute cancellation it seems safer to not go ahead with a huge trail this year. I will however still open my studio on 7/8 November for mini visits with social distancing and hand sanitising a priority. Ill also be encouraging art lovers who cant come then to phone for an appointment at any time in November and early December. I wish all of you a safe, secure and much happier second half of 2020 and hoping to see you at my studio in November. More info to follow.

19.01.2022 It seems a long time since I posted photos of my latest work but social isolation is something I revel at in my Galston studio and Time seems to have passed so quickly with even less interruptions. The past ten weeks Ive been engrossed in three different wonderful commissions for bird sculptures, a pair of herons, a large dancing brolga and two smaller brolgas, part of a gorgeous lyrical side table. Ive cut thousands of feathers of all different sizes, hammered them individually on an anvil, polished their rough edges and then welded each one onto the frame of the wings until I can see the wind behind them.

About Ulric Steiner: Constructing rafts, canoes and a catamaran beside the Bielersee -Switzerland with my father developed my love for the water and curiosity for the wider world. After studying engineering and working in watch making, I needed a change. Five Swiss winters in a tin shed and my yacht LEpervier was finally launched into the Rhine. In the Mediterranean I erected rigging, taught myself ocean sailing and left Europe. What an indescribable adventure it was, the whales the stars, the sunsets as company. I sailed into Sydney in October 1976. My sculptural forms reflect the nature of my relationship with the sea and the pull it has exerted on me to follow less trodden paths. 10.01.2022 Visit the fabulous ArtPark Sculpture walk at Woolloomooloo Bay. Walk through the Botanic Gardens and down towards the start near the Boy Charlton Pool, its the best sculpture walk in Sydney and my Pelican Landing is in a fabulous position right on the front of the wharf beside the harbour.

06.01.2022 Remembering a fabulous trip to the Caucasus seven years ago where I visited Master Cross Stone Sculptor, Sergey Danielyan in his studio in Armenia. Our common language was the language of sculpture. Who’d ever thought that there would be so much to notice about the crosses intricate traditional motifs and symbols?

06.01.2022 A recent visit to Tassie brought me to South Bruny Island with its majestic lighthouse (1838) and later in the midlands to the stately old flour mill at Oatlands (1837),both conical towers. Im always captivated by the interplay of form and function architecturally.
