25.01.2022 ICYMI - Tarawera Ultramarathon was on over the weekend, and it was great to see some trail running action back again! Check out some of these awesome shots from the fellow Ultra-Trail World Tour race over in Rotorua, New Zealand. The only other place in the world where these kinds of events can happen, it's pretty special to see trail runners back together again! We just wish we could've been there too...... graememurray.com
25.01.2022 With less than 3 months to go until you tackle UTA, it's definitely time you start thinking about some serious training... Whether your goal is to be in tip-top shape, to step up to a new distance, or to just make it across that finish line, the team at Squadrun will get you there! Kerry and Ali know more about UTA than almost anyone else in the world and have been the trusted training partner of the event for years. They know what it takes to get around the course and ar...e committed to getting you across that finish line! At Ultra-trail Australia 2016 SQUADRUN celebrated a 96.5% completion rate and 95% in 2017 and 94% in 2018. Put simply SQUADRUN athletes are almost 10 times more likely to complete their chosen event than the rest of the field, regardless of ability! SQUADRUN can also help seed your start group if you're running the UTA50 or UTA100, so if you want to use them as your seeding choice make sure you're signed up! From just $15 a week, this is THE choice if you want the best chance of making it to the finish. Hit them up via the link in comments below

21.01.2022 The biggest and baddest of them all the iconic UTA100! It’s the race that every trail runner in Australia aspires to do at least once but all too often, once is never enough. Trails, trails and more trails! Plus a few fire roads, and of course some stairs... The UTA100 is a beast including that elevation profile 4400m of up! Run through the stunning Golden Stairs, Ironpot Ridge, Leura Forest, past the Wentworth Falls, and down the epic Kedumba Pass. Climb the iconic 951Furber steps to top off your 100km journey! Cross that finish line, and become a UTA100 finisher an icon of Australian trail running! Who will be adding their name to the #UTA100 finisher list in 2021? #UltraTrailAustralia
20.01.2022 Just some Saturday morning inspo for your run today Hopefully it’s almost as epic as this! #UltraTrailAustralia
20.01.2022 Just a friendly reminder that we have shifted entries opening for UTA 2021 to 3 December 2020 at 11am AEDT . This means that person to person transfers will be able to occur from 10 December 2020. Set these new dates in your calendar and start to get excited for 2021 - we sure are!
18.01.2022 2021 is the year you challenge yourself. The year you take on something new. The year you discover yourself on the trails. Whether it’s your first trail run, your first ultra or your 13th UTA100 (for a special few) will you be on the start line challenging yourself in 2021? If you want to be, you’ll need an entry so be ready to go at 11am AEDT on 3 December when they open!... With a large number of athletes deferred from UTA2020, only a very limited number of entries are available across all distances. Don’t hit snooze on this one! #UltraTrailAustralia
17.01.2022 Time to get off the couch! Those days are counting down faster than a UTA100 winner
17.01.2022 We know how much you love UTA gear almost as much as the event itself. We certainly love seeing it out on the trails, in the gym, anywhere really! Like you, we were saddened to hear that our good mates at Aussie Grit would be closing. Luckily for us and you, they were more than happy to supply another awesome range of kit for UTA 2020 best parting gift ever! Even better - this year we've taken our gear online. You can now order what you want, when you want, and get it shi...pped straight to your door. That way you can train in it, race in it, even sleep in it! Stocks are limited, so we definitely recommend getting in early so you don't miss out. Some items will sell fast and not everything will be available to purchase at the event. Check it out via the link in comments down below
16.01.2022 Hi everyone... we wanted to provide you with an update on the 2021 entry opening. It seems we underestimated the complexity involved in confirming the limited number of entries available in each distance. Short story is that it's going to take us a wee bit longer to work through the details and ensure that everyone who had entered the 2020 event and still wants to be on the start line in 2021, will be. For this reason 2021 entries will now open on Thursday 3 December 2020 at... 11:00am AEDT. We know there are many of you are super-keen to snap-up the few remaining entries and plan your 2021 Blue Mountains adventure... we hope you understand this decision and ask for your patience while we work through this necessary process to get it right. We'll keep you informed and ensure you have all the detail prior to Thursday 3 December.
14.01.2022 Hump day hill session anyone? With less than 4 months to go until UTA 2020 - it's probably about time you start cracking into a little bit of strength training, and one of the best ways to do that is with a few hills! Yes, they hurt. But it's worth it when you're 75% through your UTA race and the quad burn is all too real...
14.01.2022 What we'd give to be up in the Blue Mountains on a camp right now with our mates at Squadrun and Lucy Bartholomew! Instead, lets relive some of the good vibes from our UTA2019 camp - and start thinking about our training for #UTA2021! #UltraTrailAustralia
14.01.2022 Another reminder that you need to make your start group seeding selections by March 12. For those running the UTA50 and UTA100, you will need to provide a seeding option if you choose any start group other than the last. Head over to our website to view these and login to your User Profile to upload seeding and make your choice. If you wish to start in the same start group as your friends, you should all request the same start group based on your slowest friend.... You can amend your start group request by logging back into your entry via the ‘User Profile’ button on Event Plus anytime prior to 11:59pm 12 March 2021. If you have ‘No Seeding’ selected, you will be assigned to the last start group. P.S. a great way to be seeded for a start group is by using the Squadrun coaching team! They will help you out with your training and get you in the tip-top shape you want to be on race day, as well as seed you into the start group that will be best suited for you. Get in touch with them ASAP if you want to use this option! #UltraTrailAustralia
14.01.2022 Putting together your support crew for UTA is kind of like assembling the Avengers - they have unique skills and they'll probably dress up. Here's our list for the key support crew members that'll get you round UTA Crew Captain: They know your race plan back to front, lead all the logistics, know the roads around Katoomba like the back of their hand, is probably more nervous than you before race day and will definitely be more exhausted post race.... Nutrition Specialist: Knows your exact caloric requirements per km, and has every bar, gel, lolly and electrolyte under the sun packed and ready to go. Mood Enhancer/Cheerleader: Is your number one fan, probably had too many coffees during the day and is full noise - all in support for you. Will definitely be heard at minimum 400m out from each aid station. Tag your support crew avengers below #UltraTrailAustralia
13.01.2022 WARNING - may induce desire to run 100kms... If the below has you inspired to run any distance at UTA, make sure to be online and ready at 11am AEDT 3 December when entries for UTA 2021 open! There are limited entries available - don't miss out!... #UltraTrailAustralia
12.01.2022 Friendly Reminder If you chose to defer your entry from UTA 2020 to UTA 2021, you should have received an email on Thursday asking you to confirm your entry for 2021 by 11.59pm tonight. If you don't want to miss out on the 2021 then make sure you action that confirmation today! If you have not received this email please get in touch with us at [email protected]
12.01.2022 2020 has been a mighty challenge and the events industry has been heavily impacted. This means you as the participants in our industry have missed out on many of your favourite events across Australia and around the world. We’ve joined forces with other events around Australia to create the Australian Mass Participation Sporting Events Alliance. We’re planning to work with governments and industry leaders, to be a voice for people who run, walk, ride, swim, paddle and more, in 8,500 mass participation events across Australia. Our mission: to get back to staging events for you that are safe and enjoyable, as quickly as governments allow. You can show your support by following AMPSEA on Facebook.
12.01.2022 Sunday = Runday! Where are you hitting the trails today and who are you taking with you?
11.01.2022 As we are now back to 4 months out from UTA 2020, it's time again to start thinking about the start group you want to be in, and the seeding option you will use. If you've already done so, don't sweat it! But if you want to change, you have until 21 August to upload your start group and seeding, so get onto it now to ensure you have either a) ITRA points, b) a road half or full marathon time, c) have signed up to Squadrun or d) choose no seeding! Then when it's all done, get back out on those trails and get training!
11.01.2022 It's #FinishLineFriday! It might not quite be the same feeling as crossing that UTA finish line, but crossing that work week finish line is still a pretty damn good feeling (because weekend = trail running, obviously)
10.01.2022 *Event Update* No doubt you’ve all been closely monitoring the situation here in Australia and closer to home in New South Wales over the past few months and wondering about the certainty of Ultra-Trail Australia taking place as planned on 22 25 October 2020. While the situation continues to be highly changeable, and we’ve faced enormous challenges over the past few months, we want to reassure you that our team, with the support of our stakeholders, is doing everything we ...can to ensure the event can take place on 22 25 October 2020, for those who are able to attend. However, for our international and interstate athletes, it will be difficult, and in some cases impossible, for you to travel to the event. With this in mind, we have sent those impacted athletes an email today with alternative options. If you believe you should have received this and haven't, please email us at info@ultratrailaustralia. Current New South Wales restrictions, at this stage in place until the end of September, mean that events with less than 500 can take place, subject to a number of COVID safe requirements. We are working hard to ensure that our October event is exempt from this capacity limit. More information about our Ultra-Trail Australia Covid Safe Event plan and how it relates to your experience will be shared over the coming weeks. So, for now, we encourage you to keep your training up, stay positive and, stay patient and we hope to see you on the start line in October!
10.01.2022 As some of you may be aware, after a period of heavy rain in the Blue Mountains a large landslide has occurred that has affected the UTA100 course. NSW National Parks has issued the following statement regarding the landslide: This week’s heavy rain has triggered a large landslide that closed access to the popular Golden Stairs and Ruined Castle walking track in the Blue Mountains National Park on Wednesday, 29 July. The landslide has cut access to the Golden Stairs from Nar...row Neck, Mount Solitary and Federal Pass, near Katoomba. The landslide has left large amounts of debris including soil, rocks and trees above and below the Golden Stairs and Federal Pass. The landslide at the Golden Stairs also closes Federal Pass Walking Track from Scenic World and inhibits access from Ruined Castle and Mount Solitary extending the closures which are still in place after the recent bush fires. Unfortunately we’re facing a long closure of many months to enable us to clear the landslide and make the track safe again. It is vital people adhere to these closures as the tracks are completely blocked and there is significant risk of further landslides and rockfall. NPWS website has been updated with information, check it via the link in comments below Please adhere to all information and advice from National Parks with regards to closures when training on trails in the Blue Mountains. The UTA team is currently working towards an alternative route for the UTA100 in 2020. This will be shared once finalised. As always, train safe!

04.01.2022 After 13 years with Tom Landon-Smith at it's helm, Ultra-Trail Australia has a brand new Race Director in 2021! Nick Christopher will be taking the reigns of UTA, as an experienced race director he is super excited to continue to grow our amazing event and continue its legacy as the best trail running festival around. Tom won't be going anywhere though, and will be focusing his time on what he loves which is what happens between the start and finish lines, as Course Director. Both Nick and Tom are super excited for what 2021 holds and look forward to seeing everyone up in the Blue Mountains in May! #UltraTrailAustralia
03.01.2022 100 days and counting! What will you be doing coming into the last 100 days of your UTA 2020 prep? We hope it involves some form of training!
02.01.2022 Now that we're less than 4 months away from UTA 2020, our mates at Squadrun reckon it's time to shift from 'general preparation' to 'specific preparation'... Apparently that also means finding some stairs to climb, because nothing is more specific to UTA than stairs!
