23.01.2022 2020 has been a crazy year for all of us and with international travel not on the cards at them moment, it would be a great time to explore our own country and support small businesses along the way. 20.01.2022 This week is Diabetes Week, we would like to show our support and bring awareness to the disease. Throughout the week we will be posting information that may help children or adults about the different programs that are available, as well as to shed light on how diabetes impacts a persons day-to-day life. The infographic below shows the differences between the two types of diabetes. There are an estimated 1.2 million people with diabetes, both type I and type II, as well as... gestational diabetes. The link below takes you to the Diabetes Australia website where you can learn more about the research and numbers associated with diabetes. https://www.diabetesaustralia.com.au/diabetes-in-australia

19.01.2022 Been planning your wedding and it’s all turned upside down? Feeling like COVID has ruined what was going to be the best day of your lives? At the best of time...s, planning a wedding is a massive task. It's almost like taking on a full-time job! Throw in COVID and no hint of when restrictions might be eased to a position where we can resume planning weddings, and we begin to feel frustrated, down, isolated and alone. Maybe you're thinking of changing your original wedding plans, and not waiting to get married. What are the options? Or maybe you're thinking of waiting until the international borders open again, so you can have the wedding you've always dreamed of. What can you do now to restart your planning? This Virtual Wedding Expo isn't your usual wedding expo! It isn't a sales pitch or an event where you'll be pressured into 'signing up' with any wedding vendor. Don't forget, each of our 11 LGBTIQ+ friendly Wedding Vendors own businesses that have been greatly affected by COVID. Each of them feels deeply for you, our couples. Come along, and use this opportunity to ask any of the vendors as many questions as you like, with no strings attached. Ask them what you can do in these COVID times and still have a fabulous wedding. Or ask them what you can do now to get back into planning your wedding that will take place when we enter 'COVID-normal' times (whenever that is). Want to vent about how hard it is and what an awful time it's been? Go right ahead! It's free! You can attend from the comfort of your home computer and you can stay for as long (or as briefly) as you like. And there's no expectation that you'll see all the vendors - you simply choose to chat with whichever vendors you need to. The session would last 75 minutes starting from 5:15PM. Special note of thanks to all wedding vendors who are a part of this event - What Froggy Bakes, Yum Catering, Umbrella Family Law, KA Hair and Makeup, Holdsworth Bros. Jewellers, Celebrate Love Together with Annette James, Lavish Photo Booths, Houng Taing Photography, Hotel Windsor, Melbourne Check out the event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1299541203724149 Grab your free tickets here: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/virtual-showcase-lgbtiq-wed #lgbt #transgender #lgbtq #community #pride #loveislove #wedding #marriage #melbourne #weddingexpo #online

13.01.2022 Did you know a person with diabetes will make up to 65,000 extra diabetes decisions every year? And thats on top of tens of thousands of other life decisions. ...This year, as part of National Diabetes Week, we are raising community awareness about what it is like to live with diabetes. Diabetes is relentless. Diabetes distress and burnout are real. #headsupdiabetes #ndw2020

12.01.2022 An individual who is living with diabetes has an extra 180 decisions per day. This can be exhausting without the help of organisations and peer support groups as being able to manage diabetes can help support a healthy and successful lifestyle. One of our staff has kindly offered her perspective on living with Type I Diabetes:- As a person with Type 1 diabetes it is a constant battle throughout the day and night, there is no off switch. I am very lucky to have support from ...my friends, family and workplace. I have been living with the diabetes for over 11 years and through those years I have had the opportunity to work within my community and have made invaluable friendships. I have volunteered with Diabetes Victoria to help run camps and activity days for children of all ages who are living with type I diabetes. On these camps we help to provide children with the information and resources to live independently whilst maintaining their health and having fun with other children who are also managing their diabetes. ---------------------------------------------------------------- The link to Diabetes Victoria provides information regarding camps and activity days for children and adolescents of all ages who have diabetes. It also provides resources for peer support groups and other ways to independently manage diabetes on a day-to-day basis. https://www.diabetesvic.org.au/how-we-help-detail
