24.01.2022 "Spiritual Practice is not just sitting and meditating. Practice is looking, thinking, touching, drinking, eating, and talking. Every act, every breath, and every step can be practice and can help us to become more ourselves." ~ Thich Nhat Hanh Image by US artist, Sue Davis

24.01.2022 .. Greetings!

24.01.2022 Make sure you let these special people know every once in a while.

23.01.2022 Love, as a fruit of the Spirit, is based in actions not feelings. Fyodor Dostoevsky described this love as to see [someone] as God intended [them]. This seeing changes the way we act towards others. Love can be described as tough and tender. Sometimes love, as a commitment to the good of another, demands that you speak or act in a way that is seen as hurtful or disturbing to the other (God’s Love Poured Out..., Peter Gagen, Denise Quinn and Fr Ormond Rush, Catholic Ault... Education Brisbane, 1998). - 1 Corinthians 13 - 1 John 4:7-21 - Romans 12: 9-21

22.01.2022 We’d love to have you join us tomorrow night. Should take no more than an hour. You can buy the book to continue reflecting through the week but you don’t have to have one to join in.

21.01.2022 The Parish newsletter is out... check out the information on the Annual Catholic Campaign running this weekend and during the coming week.

21.01.2022 As daylight breaks the darkness of light As the first movements of morning, pierce the nights stillness So a new waking to life dawns within us, So a fresh new ...beginning opens. In the early light of this day, In the first actions of the morning, Let us be awake to life. In our soul and in our seeing Let us be alive to the gift of this new day. Let us be fully alive. Amen. Prayer by J P Newell, from Sounds of the Eternal Image mine, Holy Island of Lindisfarne.

19.01.2022 An Advent calendar with a difference. Prepare for Christmas with something small you (and your family) could do each day.

18.01.2022 Monday reflection in this Season of Creation with a hope and prayer for a blessed day and week... On Waking I give thanks for arriving... safely in a new dawn, for the gift of eyes to see the world, the gift of mind to feel at home In my life. The waves of possibility breaking on the shore of dawn, the harvest of the past that awaits my hunger, and all the furtherings this new day will bring. ~ John ODonohue Image by Tyler Jones

14.01.2022 Night Prayer; Lord, thank you for being with me today, For the things I have said which caused harm- please forgive me and teach me wisdom. For the things I may... have done which caused harm, please forgive me, and teach me to bring healing. If I have taken for granted the sacrifices of others, please teach me gratitude. If I have let doubts and worries weigh me down, forgive me and grant me trust, hope and joy. If I have let myself down through my own weakness, please forgive me and teach me self-discipline. All my weaknesses, ignorance and foolishness is known to you, Lord. You know me better than I know myself. Let me rest this night in the knowledge that knowing me, you also love me, and patiently wait for me. 13.01.2022 Today, on World Mental Health Day, we reflect on the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference Social Justice Statement 2020-2021 ‘To Live Life to the Full: Mental... health in Australia today’ and the church’s role to work towards removing stigmatisation associated with mental ill-health. We offer a prayer for all those who are battling a form of mental illness. Jesus, you invite us all into the fullness of life. May we support one another to flourish in body, mind and spirit. Strengthen our commitment to ensure that nobody falls through gaps in our systems of care. People called you mad. Help us to recognise you in those who suffer mental ill-health today. Show us how to eliminate stigmatisation of mental ill-health from our parishes, schools, communities and organisations. You drew near to those who were suffering in body or mind. May we too feel your nearness when we struggle with mental health challenges. May we be one as members of Your Body. You invite us to share in your ministry of love and true compassion. May we be empowered by your Spirit to reach out to all people in need. May we build communities of welcome and inclusion. Amen.

07.01.2022 The Advent wreath tradition is less than 200 years old, and one that is still evolving in theological meaning and cultural significance. While the candles are commonly linked with the virtues of hope, peace, joy and love, there is no standardised list. Below are two (of many) ways you could use lighting Advent candles in your home to inspire Advent prayer and reflection.

06.01.2022 Deacon Chad Hargrave from the Cathedral Parish makes his debut as a two minute homilist and reflects on the Gospel raeding where Peter asks Jesus if there are a...ny limits to forgiveness: "Just as the physical heart can only continue to be filled with life-giving blood when it pumps that same blood out to the body, so also you cannot receive forgiveness, receive Gods mercy, if you refuse to forgive; if youve hardened your heart." 06.01.2022 A Morning Prayer As the sun arises May the light of your love stir my heart May I drink in this sweet moment of being... Revive us O Lord, renew us this day, and restore us with your presence within us. Give us eyes to see Ears to hear and hearts to understand For you are the light and life within me O Christ The joy of my heart The breath of my being Awaken, Awaken my Love As the sun arises, awaken my heart. Arise, Arise within me To behold the wonder and mystery of dawn Like a river of life and light flowing from the love of God sparkling and quickening all it touches awakening from within. Oh ground and mentor me Evolve and awaken me opening more and more enfold me in the oneing of all. O light of lights Ignite the fires of love in my heart The joy of my eyes The breath in my presence be. For you are all and in all, For all eternity. ~ Bob Holmes #comeintothequiet

06.01.2022 Last night Fr Pat talked with our CICCA families about how its in the small things we do that we can be light and salt for the world. Our small acts of kindness might not change the world but they will hopefully make the lives of the people we meet a little better.

05.01.2022 Tomorrow is No Euthanasia Sunday in the Archdiocese. This event description has a link to the livestream mass from St Stephen’s, as well as a link for resources and a link for the Catholic Bishops Queensland Election Statement.

05.01.2022 Each year as we prepare to enter Advent, that most beautiful season of hope and promise, this little verse from Jan Richardson is etched on our FB page and in o...ur hearts... "The season of Advent means there is something on the horizon the likes of which we have never seen before. It is not possible to keep it from coming, because it will. That's just how Advent works. What is possible is not to see it, to miss it, to turn just as it brushes past you. And you begin to grasp what it was you missed, like Moses in the cleft of the rock, watching God's hindquarters fade in the distance. So stay. Sit. Linger. Tarry. Ponder. Wait. Behold. Wonder. There will be time enough for running. For rushing. For worrying. For pushing. For now, stay. Wait. Something is on the horizon." ~ from Night Visions by Jan Richardson Blessings on this vigil of Advent...let us pray for one another that we will be able to "stay", "sit", "wonder" with our Advent horizon.

04.01.2022 Earlier in the year, as our first group of children prepared for their confirmation, we reflected on the Gifts of the Spirit. As our second group finishes their preparation for their confirmation, we join with them in reflecting on the fruits of the Spirit the outworking of God’s Spirit living and working within us, transforming us slowly as we journey daily with God and with the Body of Christ. Please keep the children and their families in your prayers as they prepare for their Confirmation on Friday 23 Oct.

04.01.2022 sometimes it is almost too much the lies, the cruelty, the injustice, the inequity sometimes our hearts get filled with the pebbles of hate and fear, sadness and despair In these moments we need to remember what God can do with the worst we humans can do

04.01.2022 For anyone interested, this online event is on tomorrow night.

03.01.2022 The parish newsletter is out for the week.

03.01.2022 There are nine biblically-based fruits of the Holy Spirit as given by St. Paul in his letter to the Galatians: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). The Greek word in the Galatians list can be translated either as Goodness or as Generosity Colossians 3:12-17 is a similar list as well. The Catechism of the Catholic Church lists 12, "charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity, gentle...ness, faithfulness, modesty, self-control, chastity." (#1832) The fruits of the Spirit are not a prescriptive list but a guide. As we experience conversion of heart and a re-orientation of our life in response to God’s call, the fruits of this conversion (although profoundly personal) have a way of showing themselves and becoming lifegiving for others.

01.01.2022 Some reflection prompts during this first week of Advent.
