19.01.2022 Public Safety Announcement: This is 11 year old Lachie Muldrock in action having fun competing for our beloved club. Today he showed maturity beyond his years and a trust in his skills that he has developed in his time with Umina SLSC. Today whilst surfing with his whanua (family) he noticed two boys, one his age and the other 9 y/o fully clothed and in a lot of trouble 150m off shore. Lachie and his Uncle raced over the distressed kids, reassured and calmed them down. Lachie... was able to safely return to shore the 9 year old in very heavy and tricky conditions. His Uncle too able to do the same with the other child. Without the awareness and skills of this amazing young Nipper, one families holiday would've been a holiday from hell. Great work Lachie and Uncle Josh!! 1. Please remember everyone to swim between the Red and Yellow flags 2. If we can't see you, we can't save you. 3. Parent, carers, guardians - Please actively supervise your children, friends and family when they are in the water. 18.01.2022 Tomorrow is a pretty big day for Umina SLSC. Not only are we nominated for the second year in a row for the Australian Club of the Year, one of our young members, Kai Darwin, the current Australian Young Lifesaver of the Year has again been nominated as a finalist for this award. On top of that, one of our former members will be receiving a very special award together with a member from Ocean Beach. To have our little corner of paradise put on the national map like this is tr...uly an honour and we would like to acknowledge all the members past and present who have made our surf club what it is today. The Awards are being live streamed on Facebook at 5.30pm tomorrow evening with a live cross to Umina to our President and some of our nippers at 6.14pm. We would like to share with you a brief history of John Slatto and how he became involved with the surf club. 06.01.2022 We are so proud that our very own Garry Mensforth has been recognised for his efforts in Surf Lifesaving as SLSCC’s newest Life Member. Garry has worked tirelessly in the movement in Managerial roles throughout sport and finance. He has represented the Black, blue and white cap with over 46 years of service to our club and is still patrolling our beautiful beach. 05.01.2022 "If we can't see you, we can't save you" 15 year old Davara just recently completed her Bronze medallion and was today on her first patrol as an official Bronzie. Today whilst honing her skills in a dropping tide about 100mtrs south of the flags, she spotted a man on his boogie board go straight down the face of a wave onto the shallow bank. After the white water had passed she noticed the man face down and unresponsive. Davara swiftly paddled over and rolled the man over o...n to his back securing his neck and head in the breaking swell. Fellow patrolling member, clubbie and friend Lachlan McLeod paddled over to provide assistance. Whilst Davara had the patient secured, Lachlan noted that the man had a large graze to the forehead. Lachlan immediately signalled for assistance. The two young lifesavers took lead on providing the spinal rescue to transfer the man safely onto the beach. The urgent response from all patrolling members ensured the patient was comfortable and safe till the paramedics arrived.
