13.01.2022 WHAT IS DIVESTMENT? Divestment is the process by which shareholdings in a company or industry are reduced and ultimately eliminated. Divestment is impor...tant because it makes a political and social statement that the shareholder can no longer support the actions of its former investments. We're campaigning for divestment from the fossil fuel industry because we believe the actions of this industry can no longer go on without repercussion. Its ongoing destruction of the planet and sacred indigenous sites is not acceptable and we will not stand by while it continues. Sign our petition calling on the University of Melbourne to divest here: tinyurl.com/divestMU ID: orange square contains grey gas pump in the top right corner and line running along bottom and above text in maroon.

11.01.2022 There's still time to sign our petition! We'll be presenting it to the Vice Chancellor soon so make sure you have your say in calling on Unimelb to FULL DIVEST from fossil fuel and weapons manufacturing companies.

10.01.2022 The first Covid-safe climate strike is happening today at 5pm! Come along to Edinburgh Gardens to call for more climate action!

05.01.2022 STUDENT SAFETY OVER UNIVERSITY REPUTATION. CW: sexual assault and harassment (open caption to read) . .... . . . . It is time the University of Melbourne to lose the complacency and understand the urgency of supporting and protecting survivors in the University community. As student representatives, the UMSU Women's Department has written an open letter to Vice Chancellor Duncan Maskell highlighting the gap between the University's rhetoric versus it action, with a list of actions we have asked them to commit to. We need YOUR voices to show the University that student safety can no longer be pushed to the side. Sign our petition [link in bio] "Student Safety over University Reputation" to show the University how much we need their commitment to a survivor-centric, trauma-informed, and therapeutic model for responding to and preventing sexual assault and harassment in the University Community. https://www.megaphone.org.au/p/unimelbstudentsafetyoverrepu Full transcript of the open letter will be provided in the comments section. 03.01.2022 Don’t forget to register to join us TOMORROW for a movie screening of 2040 and trivia! This two-part event is to launch our petition to call on UniMelb to FULLY divest from fossil fuel and weapons manufacturing companies. Find the links on our Facebook page or copy them from below :)

01.01.2022 The University of Melbourne has for too long skated around the topic of divestment, making weak promises they clearly never intended to fulfil. We're standing up and demanding what was promised in 2017 and will not be fulfilled by the 2021 deadline, full divestment. Sign the petition: https://tinyurl.com/divestMU
