14.01.2022 Today is R U OK? Day, a national day of action dedicated to reminding everyone to ask "Are you OK?" if someone you know is struggling with life's ups and downs. As part of this day, we recognise that it can be particularly difficult to say that you aren't ok, if you're not. We often grow up learning that mental health is abnormal and that we should hide it. We want to remind you that you're not alone, and that it is ok to not be ok. If friends or family reach out and ask, pl...ease let them help you! If you have the ability to look after the people around you, please take the time to reach out and ask them if they are OK. A conversation can change a life. If you aren't comfortable with doing this, but know someone who may need help, please refer them to the professional services at the University. We at UMSU International would also like to say that we are always more than happy to talk if you want to reach out. Please take care and look after yourselves in these challenging times.

04.01.2022 Update on Reduced Study Load, Special Consideration, Leave Of Absence and Course Deferrals Despite the ongoing pandemic, the University of Melbourne reversed their policy on allowing personal statements when applying for reduced study load, special consideration, leave of absence and course deferrals. This made it harder for students facing difficult circumstances to access these services without first having a statutory declaration or a medical certificate. We know that... the pandemic is not over and both domestic and international students are still suffering. We fought for the university to reintroduce personal statements as supporting documents to improve the accessibility of these services. We are proud to announce that due to collaboration of UMSU INTL and UMSU Education, we are expecting a positive decision from the university. We want to assure you that if you or your studies have been affected by COVID-19 in any way, you will be able to successfully apply for reduced study load, special consideration, leave of absence, and course deferrals. Remember, whether you are in Australia or in your home countries, UMSU International will support you in every way we can. See more

04.01.2022 We have just won a LANDMARK VICTORY for international student representation at the University of Melbourne. Today, Academic Board passed a motion to allow a permanent seat for UMSU INTL on Academic Board. This is the result of 9 months of tireless work on the part of former UMSU INTL President Archit Agrawal. Previously, there were no provisions for international student representation on the Academic board. Even when 42% of the student population are international students,... the University did not consider it necessary to represent them on the peak decision making body of the University. This was a serious oversight by the university: in a year where international students have suffered so much, to remain unrepresented at the highest levels of the University was shameful. The Academic Board makes decisions on assessment requirements, WAM regulation and quality of education. With UMSU INTL now on the table, international students will get a direct voice at this crucial forum to care for, stand for, and act for ALL international students. International students are part of this community. We deserve to have our voices heard. And finally, the university is starting to pay attention. This would not have been possible without the constant support and love from our student community. Your engagement with UMSU INTL strengthens our voice, and the voice of all international students, and we are indebted to every single international student for helping us win this fight.

04.01.2022 Calling all international students! Has COVID-19 impacted your uni life? Do you think the university could do better? We need your voice more than ever, because YOUR VOICE MATTERS!... Please spare 20 minutes of your time to fill in our survey to help us improve the overall University experience for not just you, but all International Students. Click on the questionnaire link to let us know your experience and have your voice heard: https://communications23.typeform.com/to/QCmzlx03 Also DON’T MISS OUT on the chance to win prizes by completing the survey!
