25.01.2022 Mid-week Inspiration: Il Cenacolo Vinciano (The Last Supper) by one of the greatest painters of all time, Leonardo da Vinci. Painted between 1494 and 1498, this Renaissance Fresco Mural is one of the most famous artworks in the world, as it depicts the dramatic scene in which Jesus declares that one of the Apostles will betray him and later institutes the Eucharist. Leonardo’s Last Supper is located in its original place, on the wall of the dining room of the former Dominica...n convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan. To protect the paint from deterioration and to ensure that the fresco is maintained at room temperature, visitor's' entry has been restricted to a group of 25 people every 15 minutes. A brief visit but definitely a memorable one. We can't wait to visit Milano again.. #uncoveritaly #italiantravelspecialist #leonardodavinci #thelastsupper #art #ilcenacolovinciano #milan #milano #italianart #iloveitaly #Italianfresco #italianrenaissance #masterpiece #artlovers #classic #culture #hisotry See more

21.01.2022 Buon Ferragosto Amici.. Ferragosto, a holiday that was first proclaimed by Emperor Augustus in 18 BC as "feraie Augusti" is celebrated in Italy on August 15, a day that marks both the federal holiday and the religious holiday of the Assumption of Mary. With both ancient and Christian origins, many Italians now celebrate it as a part of their month-long summer vacations. Many young Italians see this day as akin to New Year’s with night-long celebrations of dancing, drinking... and watching live performances or fireworks. Many Italians head to the coast to celebrate Ferragosto, traditionally enjoying a slice of anguria (watermelon). Like many, our plans of travelling to Italy this year to celebrate Ferragosto were forced to be cancelled. So for now, from our home in Melbourne, Australia we wish you all a Buon Ferragosto. However, we look forward to celebrating in Italy next year with our beloved friends & family and can't wait to share our Ferragosto 2021 experience with you all. 03.01.2022 The majestic Duomo is to Milan what Notre-Dame is to Paris. It is an iconic symbol of the city and widely known as the biggest and arguably the most elaborate Gothic building in Italy. Standing proud in Piazza del Duomo, this behemoth cathedral has seen more than 600 years pass by. Work for the construction of the cathedral began in 1386 when the style of Gothic cathedrals had reached its peak. There are more statues on this gothic-style cathedral than any other building in t...he world. There are 3,400 statues, 135 gargoyles and 700 figures that decorate Milan Duomo! Climb the stairs or take the lift to the rooftop to fully appreciate the architecture of the most renowned silhouette in the city. From the terrazza you’ll see breathtaking views across Milan and, on clear days, the snow-capped peaks of the Alps. Here you can also see the famous Madonnina, the gold-colored statue of Mary. The Madonnina stands at the highest point of the Duomo’s roof and looks over the city asserting her role as the protector of the Milanese people.
