24.01.2022 Special Guest Speaker The school was very honoured to have past student Jimmy Letona who captivated all with his passionate and inspiring speech. Jimmy reflected on his experience at Underdale and shared with students how he found motivation and determination to achieve his life dreams. Jimmy is currently completing his Theology degree whilst donatingspare time as a Youth Pastor andstays active through his sprints at thePort Adelaide Athletic Club.

24.01.2022 SCHOOL / ORIENTATION DAY UPDATES: We are excited to share the news that school will be back to normal as of Monday 23rd November. Based on the recent lockdown changes, the Year 7 Orientation Day will be rescheduled for Thursday 3rd December. ... We will also be rescheduling the Family Information Evening to the Thursday 3rd December. We do not have specific details about this even as yet, however due to current restrictions it will be held as a webinar session. Please stay tuned for further updated. 23.01.2022 SSO Week Last week at Underdale High School we celebrated SSO week with an early morning breakfast. Our SSOs give of themselves daily, above and beyond what is expected of them, to keep the cogs of our school turning and for that we are grateful.

23.01.2022 POWER INTERCULTURAL CARNIVAL HIGHLIGHTS: A belated culmination of the Stage 1 Power Intercultural Program in Semester 1, the Carnival celebrated cultural diversity, promoted community links and gave the students an opportunity to show off their designed guernseys and footy skills against a variety of metro schools. The mighty UHS were victorious in both the boys and girls 9-a-side footy competitions.

21.01.2022 NAIDOC WEEK HIGHLIGHTS: Yesterday marked the final day of this year’s NAIDOC week and we thought what better way to finish the celebrations off than by sharing some of the week’s highlights with you! Our dedicated staff organised weaving workshops, our students put together a beautiful display and we ended the week by bringing everyone together than with a BBQ. ... It was awesome to see our extended family, WATPAC, who also took time out from their busy building schedule to talk about and celebrate the significance of this week. Thank you to all staff who helped make the week such a successful one! #besixwatpac

21.01.2022 YEAR 11 FURNITURE CONSTRUCTION: Check out these stunning Adirondack chairs that Mr Daddow's Year 11 students just finished crafting!!! Using pine and templates, students prepare 30 individual parts, paint them in a style unique to them and then go about constructing them. This project, masterminded by none other than our own Mr Lane, builds problem solving and collaboration skills. ... The staff envy the parents of these students and many have put their hands up for any spares they are simply stunning! Great work Year 11’s!!!

18.01.2022 Re-Development: Out with the old and in with the new! In the blink of an eye our site has been cleared and is now a blank canvas for our developers to do their magic with. Recently the new foundations have been laid which has given us a great sense of the scale of the new building.

18.01.2022 University of South Australia STEM Day Out: Recently a selection of our Year 8 and 9 Aboriginal students were invited to participate in UniSAs STEM Day Out, at the Samsung Smart School at UniSA Magill campus, for Science Week. The students engaged in self-directed activities in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, and even won the engineering exercise! It was a fantastic opportunity that saw students engaging with traditional subjects in new exciting ways. The students were honoured to meet Aboriginal scholars teaching at the campus and received great encouragement from Professor Rigney to DREAM BIG!

15.01.2022 Congratulations to Phoebe Field who has been awarded the ANU Changing Futures Scholarship to study at The Australian National University in Canberra next year. Hard work and resilience has paid off for Phoebe, who achieved a selection ranking of an incredible 97.10! Words cannot express how over the moon we at Underdale are for Phoebe and her family! Well done Phoebe, we are so excited for you and your future!

13.01.2022 Building Better Schools Re-Development: We at Underdale High School are super excited to take you along our re-development journey. This journey will take place over the course of the next year with a proposed completion date set for the end of October 2021.

13.01.2022 FLINDERS UNIVERSITY ENRICHMENT PROGRAM: This week our Year 10’s visited Flinders University as part of their enrichment program. They gained a glimpse into the life of a university student by attending various sessions on Law & Psychology, Health & Sport or Science and Engineering. These photos highlight our Year 10’s testing out their strength and pulse rates during their session with the Flinders Health team.... We are so grateful to Flinders University and their exceptional team for providing such a great opportunity for our students.

12.01.2022 Power Intercultural Carnival: On Friday Mr Hilditch and Mr Daddow had the pleasure of escorting the Year 11 PE students to the Power Intercultural Carnival and were in awe of their determined, fair and cohesive display, reigning supreme in both the boys and girls Grand Finals!! It was the Girls’ first title defeating Mt Carmel in the final by 27 points, while the boys won their second title in a nail biter against Islamic College.... The shared celebrations were well deserved!

12.01.2022 2020 SACE grades are out. We would like to say a big congratulations to our Year 12 students, and their teachers, who achieved outstanding results, both for themselves as individuals, and in the state. 60% of grades were in the A and B grade bands. With our students achieving "A+"s in Workplace Practices and Spanish and "A"s in multiple subjects including: Creative Arts, English, Essential English, Health, Material Solutions, Physical Education, Research Project and Community Studies. Well done Class of 2020! #ROCK

10.01.2022 Ice Factor Recently Sophie Pyromallis, our Student Wellbeing Senior Leader, arranged a fun and engaging way for a group of 20 students from years 8 to 11 to develop life skills in team work and leadership. The students will not only gain these lifelong skills but also learn the skilled game of ice hockey! Thank you Sophie and the Wellbeing team for always actively finding ways to engage all of our students! They are lucky to have you!

08.01.2022 Year 12 Appreciation: 2020 has been tough for many! Add to these existent challenges the pressures and workload that come with achieving a SACE certificate phew, just the thought is exhausting! We cannot help but appreciate the hurdles these students have had to overcome, the result of which has been the development of greater levels of resilience and determination.... In light of that, today we took a moment to appreciate all of our year 12 students with luncheon. We are so proud and wish them well, over this final sprint to the end of their secondary education.

08.01.2022 Exciting News - Flinders University have just announced a Year 11 entry pathway. Students can complete an online form by visiting https://www.flinders.edu.au//year-11-grades-admission-path, if they wish to be considered on their Yr 11 results. Flinders will then contact the school and request the Yr 11 results. Conditional offers will be made in late October. Offers are conditional upon students finishing their SACE and meeting any other requirements (eg for Teaching they... still need to do the Teaching Capabilities Statement). Their Yr 11 grades can make students eligible for a range of degrees Offers are still made through the SATAC preference system, so students should still list their courses in order of preference. The following courses are excluded from the Yr 11 Grades Pathway: . Bachelor of Clinical Sciences / Doctor of Medicine . Bachelor of Health Sciences / Master of Occupational Therapy . Bachelor of Health Sciences / Master of Physiotherapy . Bachelor of Medical Science (Vision Science) / Master of Optometry . Bachelor of Midwifery (Pre-registration) . 08.01.2022 Uniform Amendment We are excited to inform our school community that the Uniform Policy has been amended! The colour for school pants and shorts is now BLACK. The type of pant and short needs to be Business Style... (NOTE: leggings and track suits are not acceptable alternatives) These will be available from the Uniform Shop from 1 August. Alternatively, Black Business Style Pants/Shorts can be purchased from any supplier (for example, Target/Kmart). There is a 3 year phase in process so students can continue to wear their current Grey Business Style Pants/Shorts. If you are thinking of purchasing new school pants/shorts they MUST be in BLACK. All uniform items can continue to be purchased from Devon Head Office: 84 Daws Road, Edwardstown Monday-Tuesday 10am-4pm Saturday, 10am-1pm There are currently some shortages on jackets because of supply issues from overseas, so we ask for your patience.

We are very proud of our cultural diversity here at Underdale and represented all 77 cultures by way of our Guernsey’s which were adorned with the number 77 on the back.

Underdale High School is incredibly fortunate to have families from a rich diversity of cultures and backgrounds. 04.01.2022 Ah, the planets have aligned for our Underdale High School students! This long weekend just got longer with a Pupil Free Day on Tuesday. We look forward to seeing wonderfully refresh students back at school on Wednesday 10th June.

04.01.2022 Underdale High School has been extremely privileged this year to play host to this incredible art installation created by local artist, Yvonne Kuchel. The work has lifted the Resource Centre space and attracted much attention from students, staff and visitors. If you are interested in learning more about this piece, we have attached the artist statement for your perusal. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

It was great to see so many families planning for the future and making the most of the information available to them.... Thank you to those who came for making it such a successful event!
