24.01.2022 We are stoked to be back running tours after many months of hibernation! Our guides/staff are keen to get back on the road again, with some taking up other opportunities during the quieter period. This is our Operations Manager Gareth (aka Wombat), who at times helped out on his family farm with his brother to shear sheep. Now it's back to business, and we welcome all interstate visitors who need some professional expertise to help them navigate and explore Tasmania on our numerous tours, or perhaps on a customised private itinerary!

23.01.2022 Many guests on our tours choose the exhilarating Mt Amos hike during our day exploring Freycinet National Park in #tasmania. Were you one of them, and how did you like it? Steep, and not for the faint-hearted, this challenging hike involves a careful ascent of the granite contours of Mt Amos. Fantastic views of the Hazard's rocky outcrops and back to Coles Bay, eventually give way to the prize at the top - panoramic views over the magificent Wineglass Bay and south towards M...t Graham and Mt Freycinet. While there are easier and different options available, this hike is best suited to experienced hikers who feel comfortable being a bit exposed at heights. For safety, it should only be attempted in dry weather, as the rocks when wet are treacherous. Proper hiking footwear, at least 1L of water, warm clothing and sun protection are all a must! #wildfun #wildplaces

22.01.2022 Recently, some of our Under Down Under guides attended an educational forum run by Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife, held at Freycinet Peninsula. This terrific event was designed to educate non-Aboriginal tour operators/guides working in Freycinet National Park about the significant Aboriginal cultural values of this spectacular place, and how to respectfully interpret this. Our guides enjoyed the storytelling and learning from the Aboriginal Rangers on practices such as how to ...weave bracelets from native grasses, how clubs were made, how to grind stone for ochre, and how to carry coals between campfires. As part of the Respect our Culture Certification that we hold with Ecotourism Australia, it's important that our guides continually enhance their cultural awareness of Tasmanian Aboriginal people. Our many thanks to Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service and the Rangers for a fantastic training day.

16.01.2022 Tassie's borders are opening up. Will interstate people visit and choose to tour? Certainly, everyone in the tourism industry is hoping for it, and we especially are anxious to get our tour vehicles and guides back on the road, helping people to see the very best of #Tasmania again. There will be a few changes that go along with the new COVID-era. Our website explains our COVID-READY Plan, and the FAQ page hopefully answers most questions guests may have. Note - this photo was pre-social distancing!

16.01.2022 We're gearing up to re-open our 3-hour Mt Wellington Descent Cycle Tour for a unique experience on "the mountain" - aka Mt Wellington/kunanyi. Interested? Our website has all the details, as does the #buysomethingtasmanian initiative. We hope to see you soon!

15.01.2022 Always Was, Always Will Be. It's Naidoc Week! This year's theme to Naidoc week recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. ... At Under Down Under, we pledge to do better at telling the story of Tasmanian aboriginal people and celebrating their culture. We're excited to be putting a stronger focus on telling the true story of Australia's history which doesn't start with European arrival, but begins with the footprints of First Nations people who were our first explorers, first farmers, first artists, first botanists, and more. A small step, going forward all guides from Under Down Under will begin our tours by acknowledging the palawa and pakana people as the traditional custodians of Tasmania's land and waters. We recognise their ongoing cultural and spiritual connection with Tasmania, and pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging. We've participated in two aboriginal cultural awareness trainings so far this year (for management as well as guides), and we took time over the quiet period (COVID shutdown) to improve our interpretation materials for guides. Overall, we are looking forward to giving more information to guests about Tasmania's aboriginal history and culture, and in doing so, aiming to respect the wishes of aboriginal people.

12.01.2022 Amazing weather today at Montezuma Falls on Tasmania's Wild West Coast! These guests are part of our first multi-day tour in many months (due to COVID shutdowns and border closures), but the great news is that we are receiving heaps of interest and bookings for summer. This horsetail fall is really outstanding. It is one of Tasmania's highest wateralls at around 104m from top to bottom. To get there, we walk through beautiful Tarkine rainforest with the chance to spot some o...f the rarer rainforest birds such as the Pink Robin, Scrub Wrens, Green Rosellas, Bassian Thrush and the Yellow Tailed Black Cockatoo. Dusky Antechinus and Burrowing Crayfish can also be found in the area. As we walk, our guide shares their knowledge about the history of the area. The track from Williamsford follows the old Dundas Railway through the rainforest for around an hour and a half each way to and from the falls (8km return walk). This railway was carved through the wilderness between Zeehan and Rosebery in the 1890’s linking up the many mining communities springing up through the area. Taking a guided tour has so many advantages that self-drive journeys can't provide; easily finding gems like Montezuma Falls and learning its history from expert guides are two great reasons to join a guided small group tour in Tasmania. Wild Places. Wildlife. Wild Fun. We are proudly Advanced Ecotourism Certified. Enquire today!

08.01.2022 After a very long break with no tours, it's great to be running our Mount Wellington Descent Cycle Tour again. Yesterday's guests were stoked! 05.01.2022 Nelson Falls really does make the BEST background to a travel photo! Definitely stop, as we do, on your way between Hobart and Strahan on Tasmania's West Coast. The Franklin-Gorgon Wild Rivers National Parks has lots of short stops as you travel through it along the Lyell Highway. Don't drive by. Explore!

04.01.2022 We're COVID-Ready! Our staff recently completed an accredited training through the official provider Work & Training on COVID-19 Infection Control, which aims to reduce risk of transmission and improve policy and procedures. We hope guests have confidence in our efforts to apply best practice principles in this space, as the safety of our guests, staff, and the community, is always our top priority. The professional third party training, which took place locally with an in...structor, was serious in nature, but our guides always find some fun in any situation as these pics show! Information on our COVID-Ready plan and some related FAQs are available on our website or give us a call if you have any questions. We're ready to tour with you, with tours already underway around Tasmania. #covidreadytasmania

04.01.2022 To us, these tannin-stained waters are exquisitely beautiful. There is peace to be found in these ancient forests. We could watch this all day, or, better yet, let's head out to Tasmania's West Coast and find some to relax by.

02.01.2022 The Pinnacle Observation Shelter, around 1271m at the summit of kunanyi/Mt Wellington, Tasmania. We take guests on an unreal guided downhill cycle tour from this stunning alpine location, 21km to Hobart’s waterfront.
