25.01.2022 Today we recognise and commemorate Womens Equality Day. In the words of President Obama "Today, as we celebrate the anniversary of this hard-won achievement and pay tribute to the trailblazers and suffragists who moved us closer to a more just and prosperous future, we resolve to protect this constitutional right and pledge to continue fighting for equality for women and girls". There are many women and men who have, and continue to fight for an equitable future for all. We thank them for paving the way and are proud to be members of a business community that actively supports this mission. Photograph shows suffrage and labor activist Flora Dodge "Fola" La Follette (1882-1970), social reformer and missionary Rose Livingston, and a young striker during a garment strike in New York City in 1913. 25.01.2022 Today we are celebrating World Kindness Day, inspired to launch the possibility of positive change. Kindness does not discriminate and has no negative agency. It is something that should ignite a spark in us all, to remind us we can always do and be better.
24.01.2022 Employee engagement may seem like an enormous challenge when your team is remote, but there are many ways to maintain it. One of the key things that will help you keep your employees engaged even during tough times is keeping them connected to your purpose. If employees are always reminded of the impact their work has beyond the day-to-day they feel more enthusiastic, committed and loyal your company.
24.01.2022 Kindness, especially when experienced unexpectedly is what helps us bring people together in community. Today is Random of Acts of Kindness day. Make sure you're a #RAKtivist today and bring a smile and a fuzzy warm feeling to a fellow human or furry friend. What's the best RAK you've experienced?
24.01.2022 What are you doing to Keep Australia Beautiful? As a certified B Corp we are always conscious of our decisions when it comes to how we impact our physical environment. By making conscious decisions around what we purchase and how we purchase it, we aim to be that small ripple in the pond that helps to reduce litter through choices like using reusable coffee cups for our morning fix, taking our own bags when heading to the shops, refusing plastic straws, utilising a compost and seeking office products that have minimal packaging and offer recyclable options. Keep Australia Beautiful #keepaustraliabeautiful
23.01.2022 Yesterday was International Day of the Worlds Indigenous Peoples. At Underground Communications we acknowledge the Traditional Owners of country throughout Australia and recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and culture. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.
23.01.2022 Tomorrow is the International Day of Charity designated by the UN General Assembly to mobilise the world to help others. As a certified B Corp focussed on community, our work with our charity partner Whitelion is an important part of our commitment to creating a positive social impact. Through donating 1% of our corporate revenue and 5% of our billable hours to pro bono work, we are contributing to helping at-risk young people form positive connections, build pathways to work and become contributors to the community of the future. And, for those times that our team members would like to focus their efforts on something important to them, they can take advantage of 16 pro rata volunteer hours per year. What are some great examples of giving back that youve seen?
23.01.2022 In honour of Keep Australia Beautiful week we want to encourage you to do your bit for the environment. Because if everyone makes one small positive change well be in a much better position to improve the world.
23.01.2022 We are thrilled to have been recognised as a finalist in Comms Declare search for the most climate-friendly agency in Australia! As a signatory to the Net Zero 2030 Pledge, we are committed to improving our own business practices and those of our clients. Big shout out to Phil Benedictus and the team at Benedictus Media for taking the win as the Climate Comms Champion!... http://ow.ly/Uawx50CoGXz
22.01.2022 Boosting employee engagement through internal communications doesnt have to be costly. One simple tip we have implemented is introducing more social events and coffee catchups. Despite working from home we always make time for a quick 15min catch up to discuss anything besides work!
21.01.2022 The count down is on for our recertification in October 2021, as with anything, nothing is perfect. We are looking forward to bettering our practices and policies, we are excited to see the ways we can change and improve our organisation compared to where we were 3 years ago.
21.01.2022 At our B Local Sydney panel event two weeks ago, the question of how to boost morale and employee engagement was asked. As the business world moves online, we are commonly asked how can organisations continue to drive employees towards their purpose and impact goals. We tell them transparency and consistency matter. It is essential organisations implement internal comms to create a two-way dialogue. As communication consultants we work with you to keep the conversation flowing and provide support and ideas when you need it most. http://ow.ly/Kbyc50ALRGw
20.01.2022 Our team is ready to combat the next wave with our reusable Atelier Etica silk masks from fellow B Corp Thread Harvest.
20.01.2022 When it comes to JEDI, there is no silver bullet. No single solution. Yet thinking outside of the box, including employees in the policy creation and empirical evidence all have the ability to serve as remarkable engines of change. We love HBR's break down on diversity and inclusion efforts that "really" work. http://ow.ly/hRL350Cg7qS
19.01.2022 Living and working in community means that everyone has access to contributing equally, which leads to unified societies and workplaces that benefit people and planet. On International Day of Women and Girls in Science, what better way to to be inspired to work towards a more equitable world than to read some inspiring stories of women who've transcended the barriers and delivered groundbreaking work? http://ow.ly/oqtz50Dt1GB
18.01.2022 The most important aspect of creating your JEDI policy is to consider all "people" aspects of your company, this extends beyond your employees to include clients, potential employees and suppliers, among others. Establishing specific goals and outcome objectives to reach for and then holding business leaders accountable is imperative to ensuring your policy is successful.
18.01.2022 Team celebration is important for business and personal growth, especially during a crisis. Since moving to a remote work model, we have made sure that we prioritise this so that we can celebrate the wins, check in on our processes and plan for the month ahead. This gives us the opportunity to reconnect as a team and add some play into the work day. How does your team celebrate and grow?
17.01.2022 Engaging teams in business goals and outcomes is more complex than sending out an internal eDM with the CEO update. Check out how we engaged Multigates diverse team and circulated company information to all staff across all business functions so that, even those who had limited access to technology or experienced language barriers could feel a connection and contribution to the companys higher purpose and goals.
17.01.2022 This week is homelessness week, a week to highlight the importance of needing a home. Prior to COVID-19, almost 120,000 people were homeless in Australia. Now with thousands more unemployed and many facing rental stress, homelessness in Australia is now a crisis. Our partnership with Whitelion supports young people by providing mentorships, specialist services and supporting those on the streets. You can find out more about Whitelions work here http://ow.ly/dfir50AQY4u #HW2020 Image Credit: Launch Housing
16.01.2022 Being clear about your organisations purpose is where growth, learning and change occur. To have an organisational purpose is to contribute to something greater and is a motivating and inspiring factor for team members. Motivating employees by providing a purpose at work allows them to feel they are contributing to something bigger and encourages them to be immersed in work that provides value. What purpose does your work provide to you?
16.01.2022 Heres your reminder to do something for yourself today.
16.01.2022 Throwback Thursday to when we hosted an amazing event as part of B Corp month last month. Creating events like this helps us to bring like minded people together to build and engage a supportive and inspiring community. During a time of restrictions we felt privileged (and relieved!) to be able to detour from the online events that have dominated the first half of 2020 and spend time getting to know more of the B Corp community in Sydney.
16.01.2022 A key component of the B Impact Assessment is ensuring justice, equity, diversity and inclusion in the workplace. In fact B Corps are pushing the message of "Don't wait for economic justice; make it happen". Being a B Corp involves building responsible business structures to leave the world a better place than they found it. Part of this work includes exploring ways businesses can be used as a solution to the issues facing our society and environment.

15.01.2022 Its been almost 2 years since we became a certified B Corp and in that time more people have randomly asked to work with us because they love what we stand for and we have worked with the community to increase visibility. The B Corp community is an extremely engaged, supportive and inspiring community that we have also seen grow in the last few years. The world is changing and it looks like B Corps are leading the way for businesses to make more of a positive impact. http://ow.ly/1zEw50AFLGR
14.01.2022 Today we are recognising World Children's Day, a global day of action for children. Urgent action is needed to make sure every child has a right to education and safety. More than 262 million children and youth are out of school. This is why we are proud to partner with Whitelion, a non-profit dedicated to helping at-risk young people build positive connections and develop pathways into the work.
13.01.2022 Tomorrow we celebrate one of the most effective mediums of sharing your message to a large and engaged audience on World Radio Day's 10th Anniversary. If you tune into one of your favourite shows, take a moment to remember how impactful this service has been over the years in helping people stay connected, entertained, informed and safe. http://ow.ly/gOLO50Dt1R7
13.01.2022 #TipThursday In the words of Simon Sinek "People dont buy what you do, they buy why you do it". That is why intentionally and authentically communicating your purpose, frequently and at the right time, allows staff to see more clearly how their daily work fits into the organisations purpose. It also provides a reminder that leadership values the tasks at hand - even the mundane ones.
13.01.2022 2020 has been a challenging year but we have seen communities around the world come together in order to try and create change in society.
13.01.2022 We are proud to have joined forces with 105 businesses and peak bodies to demonstrate our support for the Climate Change Bill that was presented to Parliament on Monday 9th November. We recognise our responsibility in standing up and supporting the Bill for change to happen. The time to act is now and we need to be net zero. #climateactionnow #bcorporation #climatechange #bthechange #climatecrisis #sustainability #environment #bcorps
12.01.2022 "As a community of businesses founded with the goal of creating a more inclusive economy, Certified B Corporations have been innovators in justice, equity, diversity and inclusion practices..." We are proud to be a part of a growing community leading the way for inclusion practices, but it doesn't stop there. With endless room for improvement, the desire to be better and do better will always exist in our practices. http://ow.ly/OSa150CaOMK
12.01.2022 A global pandemic has made so many people stop and rethink their life direction. Taking a moment to slow down and evaluate where you are heading can be confronting. We are often so busy doing at the expense of who we are being. Connecting to your purpose provides a compelling Why and this forced pause on our usual busy mode has allowed many of us to take a good look within ourselves at how were living life. What is one thing this pandemic has taught you about yourself or your business?
12.01.2022 "Without purpose theres no direction, but more importantly, theres no reason for existence." Whats your business purpose and how do you communicate it with your stakeholders? Sharing your purpose - or your why - with employees helps them connect to something deeper and allows everyone to become more aligned with the core company values.
12.01.2022 The importance of JEDI initiatives cannot be understated, creating a diverse employee population and listening and responding to individual needs can prove highly beneficial to organisations of any size. Everyone has a part to play in helping to create an inclusive workplace culture. DEI initiatives are for everyone and they make us all stronger. http://ow.ly/CQ4z50Cg7nn
12.01.2022 Its great to see that our 4-legged co-workers are engaged when the team gets together to do some solid planning for the month ahead. Have you had some furry co-workers pop into you digital meetings whilst you work from home?
11.01.2022 Inclusive communication is an approach that seeks to 'create a supportive and effective communication environment, using every available means of communication to understand and be understood'. We use diversity as a means to tell your stories, connect your workforce and create a more engaged organisation. Read how on our recent blog post. http://ow.ly/uhBx50Cmi1q
11.01.2022 #TipTuesday Communicating your purpose to your communities is more complicated than motivational talks or inspiring words. Your purpose should inform people with a direction to aspire toward, but not limit their freedom to choose how they get there. Providing autonomy to employees allows the purpose to align with each individuals unique skills and experiences that serve the execution of organisational strategies.
10.01.2022 Find your purpose to inspire and create change.
10.01.2022 86% of new hires decide to settle down with a company within the first 6 months of being hired. That is why an employee onboarding process is essential to maximising your new hires and is a invaluable investment to your organisations success.
09.01.2022 We have lent on technology as a way of connecting with our teams during the craziness that has been 2020, but how do we maintain nor just connection but engagement. No doubt there is a hint of fatigue from the endless online meetings so what do you do to keep your team engaged when they arent together physically? http://ow.ly/ObCx50AS32k
08.01.2022 Today is R U OK? Day, a national day of action to encourage Australians that every day is the day to ask "Are you OK?". Its OK to not be OK, but its important we stay connected and for those who are able, be willing to support those around us. #ruokday #ruok #ruokeveryday

Jobseekers today are looking for career paths where they have the chance to give back. They want to see organisations commit to something much more significant than profit. To be an employer of choice, companies need to be successful in promoting their purpose through showcasing their culture, values and mission. Communicating these three essential pillars will attract and empower candidates to contribute to your organisations grand vision.
06.01.2022 A companys ability to upskill, or its capacity for training and developing employees to expand their skillsets, creates significant competitive advantage. Studies show that the cost of one worker leaving an organisation could be as much as $25,000. Upskilling or reskilling employees is a smaller investment that allows you to create a more well-rounded workforce. Upksilling also boosts morale, improves retention and attracts new talent. What upskilling does your workplace offer? http://ow.ly/lyS550ALSr6

05.01.2022 Working remotely or working from home comes with a lot of new challenges that working in an office doesnt. A big one is how to stay motivated to keep working when you are at home. 05.01.2022 Its easy to get dragged down by the day to day tasks and lack direction, motivation and engagement. Thats why we encourage brands to continuously connect to their origins and their purpose, always asking the question why when making decisions around communication and engagement. Connecting your team to a sense that they are here for something bigger than themselves and that, even when all seems hopeless, the work they do matters is one of the best ways to help them stay motivated. https://undergroundcomms.com.au/technology-the-vehicle-not/
04.01.2022 In times of uncertainty there is a big temptation to cut back on what many companies see as the soft skills, such as communication, engagement and marketing. But there is actually no more important time to focus on all your stakeholders than when times are tough.
03.01.2022 Today on International Youth Day we celebrate young peoples voices, actions and initiatives. Because our young people are the engine of change. This month is Feel Good Feb and an ideal time to perfect sharing the love! http://ow.ly/owBG50Dt1EK

01.01.2022 Because searching for perfection will stop you from taking action now. The only perfect time you have is right now.
