25.01.2022 This is amazing footage of an inquisitive great white shark amongst surfers in South Africa. It supports evidence that these sharks do not generally view humans as food.

24.01.2022 A monster beneath the bridge Enjoy discovering life beneath the Batemans Bay Bridge and Batemans Bay. Footage taken using a variety of ROVs (Remotely Operated Vehicles) built by UnderseaROV. Filmed and edited by David Rowland.... #allkindsofnaturaleurobodalla #underwatervideography #batemansbay #batemansbaybridge #flathead #Eurobodalla #recfishing #marinelife #lovethebbay

23.01.2022 Amazing to learn that NOAA Scientists discovered a carnivorous, balloon-like comb jelly with their ROV at a depth of ~4000m.

23.01.2022 Some more beautiful pics by Frances Whitfield in Sydney Harbour.

21.01.2022 Come spend a few minutes chilling in one of our favourite Batemans Marine sanctuaries on the NSW South Coast. This is the Burrewarra Sanctuary zone in the Batemans Marine Park just south of the town of Batemans Bay.

21.01.2022 It's been a wild week on the NSW coast. Here is a spectacular photo of the seas off Newcastle a few days ago.

21.01.2022 The NSW coast is being smashed again this week with floods, gales and huge seas. Here are some terrific pictures from Wollongong.

20.01.2022 We are back on the ocean and the Tollgate islands are beautiful as ever. We are looking forward to bringing new adventures and underwater stories to you from the amazing NSW coast.

19.01.2022 Say cheese! Carpet sharks.

19.01.2022 A great discovery and ROV footage off Cape York.

18.01.2022 Check out this once-a-year, coral spawning event happening on the outer Great Barrier Reef this weekend. The ABC will be streaming video live from 8:30pm Friday:

17.01.2022 An interesting discovery in 200m of water by an ROV.

16.01.2022 A blue whale sighting off Sydney! https://www.9news.com.au//2257e71d-33e0-4b50-8971-df58f773

16.01.2022 Love getting out on the water once in a while!

16.01.2022 This week, we really enjoyed showing off the standard BlueROV2 (with accessories) 4DoF movement live into webinars: https://vimeo.com/421831981

14.01.2022 Incredible "benthic tornado" spotted in the Coral Sea Marine Park off QLD, though it appears to have been caused by the ROV SUBastian's vertical thrusters - see the first comment on the video by the Schmidt Institute.

14.01.2022 It was so thrilling to share live video from inside (literally!) the Merimbula Wharf Aquarium with local Primary School students in their classrooms! There were lots of great questions from students about aquarium residents, like the Blue Grouper, Port Jackson sharks, and puffer fish all expertly answered by Sally. We also spotted Adam still hard at work even though the Aquarium was closed. Cant wait to go back! https://vimeo.com/433240328

13.01.2022 Some super dive shots from Sydney today taken by Frances Whitfield

13.01.2022 These are amazing.

12.01.2022 One of our favourite sanctuary zone dwellers. The gangster in the garden. #savebatemanssanctuaries https://www.change.org/p/savebatemanssanctuaries/u/27570156

12.01.2022 Critically endangered grey nurse sharks visit islands and headlands of the south coast from November to May. Sights like this of sharks carrying hooks are common. Hooks that will harm their ability to feed, cause infection and sometimes death. A significant south coast aggregation site at Montague Island is within a critical habitat zone which provides seasonal protection. Two nearby marine sanctuary zones have in the past provided additional protection to some sharks movin...g in or out of the critical habitat zone which they sometimes do when feeding during their stay. These nearby sanctuary zones have been opened to recreational fishing via an amnesty which places these amazing non-agressive, but fierce looking sharks under more pressure - when they need less. More sanctuaries up the NSW coast may well follow. Rules not allowing bait fishing are unlikely to be effective. Rules like this need active policing of every vessel and sharks are also attracted to some lures. Please consider joining the facebook group Save Batemans Sanctuaries Community and like the Save Batemans Sanctuaries page for more about having your voice heard.

12.01.2022 An amnesty has been declared for six of the southern Sanctuary Zones of the Batemans Marine Park, now allowing access for recreational fishing. These sanctuarie...s provide havens for fish to breed and help marine biodiversity. These sanctuaries could be the first of many to be scrapped throughout NSW - Please help us SAVE BATEMANS SANCTUARIES See more

10.01.2022 A very cute boxfish photographed in Manly today.

10.01.2022 Delivering a FiFish to Bournda Environmental Education Centre and the Team......the Students were able to pilot a BlueROV2 and a FiFish. It is fantastic to see the Students using these technologies. It will be exciting to watch the amazing use-cases yet to be imagined......

09.01.2022 Some of the marine sanctuary zones of the Batemans Marine Park have been or are being opened to recreational fishing. UnderseaROV has been filming and mapping sanctuary zones for years and understand the beauty, fragility and importance of these small areas. It is not in the best interests of even recreational fishers themselves for the areas to be opened. These places provide areas for key urchin predators like Snapper to grow larger and become more prolific. We encourage people to help in the protection of these places by joining the groups in the post and making yourself heard.

09.01.2022 Just a fun nautical one. Do any of you have some good boat names? 'Wood Too' and 'Wood Not' are cute.

07.01.2022 This disturbing report says microplastics are sinking to the ocean beds often in amounts of 25 times more than expected.

07.01.2022 We were also out near Barangaroo today with a BlueROV2

07.01.2022 A super image of our friend and marine advocate, Sheree Marris and a baby seahorse.

06.01.2022 Please consider supporting this.

06.01.2022 Register for free with the Australian National Maritime Museum to hear from Schmidt Ocean Institute researchers about their ROV discoveries off the coast of Australia: https://www.sea.museum//virtual-ocean-talk-exploring-austr

06.01.2022 A friendly reminder about social distancing - Imagine other people are nesting triggerfish. Maintain at least 2m distance!

06.01.2022 Sidescan is a sonar technology used for understanding the sea floor. Here we experiment with this technology on a sailing vessel to see the quality of data that can be acquired and whether we can find some deeper reefs offshore Batemans Bay, NSW. We have acquired thousands of kilometers of sidescan on powered vessels, but to do it with cleaner, cheaper power is worth chasing.

05.01.2022 What an awesome use for budding robotics skills in this pandemic: https://markets.businessinsider.com//mate-rov-competitors-#

05.01.2022 Amazing footage of male grey nurse sharks fighting over a female. This is from Wolf Rock, near Rainbow Beach, Qld. Has anyone in our community seen this in our southern grey nurse sanctuaries?

05.01.2022 Check out the amazing series on the ABC exploring the East Australian Current and its far-reaching impact on Australia:

04.01.2022 If you missed our previous screenings, grab your chance to see our film of a wonderful reef in Twofold Bay, Eden. The film is a finalist in the Far South Film Festival. This is a nice article giving some background to the film.

04.01.2022 Snorkeling after Christmas lunch. We hope you all are having very happy Christmas, New Year and holiday period.

03.01.2022 What an amazing culturally-significant discovery!

03.01.2022 #savebatemanssanctuaries The sanctuary zones in the Batemans Marine Park are also home to a diverse range of habitats and (probably used to) contain and protect rare, important large resident snapper. Why was an amnesty declared for recreational fishing in these places?... Can this amnesty please be reversed, particularly for the offshore zones? Can no future amnesties on sanctuary zone fishing be declared? #savebatemanssanctuaries

02.01.2022 Some lovely shots by Frances Whitfield in the Cabbage Tree Bay Reserve in Manly.

02.01.2022 A wonderful ocean phenomenon.

02.01.2022 Wow. See the comments for what it is.
