20.01.2022 Yay!!! They’ve arrived! I forgot, I ordered some more 200mm Grevillea ‘Lady O’, as I ran out last time. $23 each, and already a great size. For those unfamiliar with it, it’s a metre high and wide, flowers 10 months of the year, and with two local parents (G. juniperina x rhyolitica), it’s tough as! Photo in comments :)

19.01.2022 Acacia Scarlet Blaze just starting her performance If anyone is struggling with these, dry shade... mine are all planted under the canopy of eucalypts, and our deciduous street tree. They love it here. In the sun they are usually yellow and unhappy. Water in well in the shade and walk away.

14.01.2022 Grevillea Misty Pink. Well. She is Devine! Super advanced in a 330mm pot, Mist would love a warm north face if wall, or some overhead cover. Great feature plant in a frost protected spot, as she won’t like those -8 temps. Also a great specimen for a pot on a covered deck. Because she’s not for the novice, I only have two available. Already 1.2m high. $95 each

11.01.2022 Grevillea Sylvia, she’s great! Not as frost sensitive as her friend Misty, she doesn’t require a warm spot. 02.01.2022 Frost. We need to talk about this today, I think our first light frost is forecast tonight. How do you manage it in the garden? Well you can do as little or as much as you like to protect your plants. If you don’t want new autumn growth damaged you could cover your plants. But I don’t. I don’t think this is realistic to maintain for every frost over winter. You could just cover new plants and coastal plants in the harsh frosts, this is a better option. ... What do I do? I don’t cover anything. I accept that some things will get damaged, but that’s ok. And in a bad winter I might lose something... and that’s ok too. So if you just leave them to cope with the elements, how do you deal with the damage? Don’t do anything..... that’s right! Just leave it until the soil warms up in September or October. If you prune it straight off, the foliage underneath will get damaged. Your plants really will let you know when it’s time to prune that damaged growth off. When you see them actively growing again in spring, go for it! Until then, let the top damaged Growth protect the rest. And enjoy the garden from the warmth of the house

02.01.2022 Here’s a great plant sale for native plant lovers :). Tomorrow!
