25.01.2022 I get an icky feeling buying new now unless I've struggled to find for secondhand alternatives.

21.01.2022 Hands up who is not a fan of water balloons? A CSIRO study has identified balloons among the top three most harmful pollutants threatening marine wildlife.... Balloons end up in our oceans, along coastlines and parks. They easily break up into smaller pieces and are attractive to wildlife as they look like food - often with tragic consequences. Like all single-use items there are alternatives available. One of our little eco warriors received handmade reusable crochet water bombs as a Christmas gift. #SeaShepherd #EveryPieceCounts #StemTheTide #balloons

20.01.2022 My machine has a drum clean function, which I run every couple of weeks, so I've had no problems with it getting musty & fusty smelling, but I had lots of problems with previous washing machines that I've owned, especially top-loading machines.

20.01.2022 I found these beautiful words this morning. So wise in these unforgiving times. I hope they help you too.

16.01.2022 Whilst it's not always easy to avoid plastic packaging at this time by taking your own snacks and filling a water bottle at home we can make sure we leave nothing behind but footprints.

15.01.2022 One of the best things we can do for our society is shop locally

14.01.2022 Recycling at it's best :)

12.01.2022 Do you know where your clothes come from?

12.01.2022 BREAKING NEWS New research from #AdriftLab and Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies - IMAS has found accumulated #plasticpollution in beach sediments (u...p to 5500 pieces/m2) on #HendersonIsland and the #CocosKeelingIslands acts as an insulator, increasing circadian (daily) maximum temperatures by a whopping 2.45 C. This causes temperature fluctuations that can have significant effects on the abundance or distribution of coastal species such as crabs and turtles. Read the full study here https://authors.elsevier.com/a/1d60H15DSlK11Z. Extremely grateful to the incredible 2019 Henderson Expedition team and brilliant project partners on the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, we couldn't have done this without you #teamwork

11.01.2022 18 months ago my Hubby & I went to the Indian Ocean Territories to volunteer on a beach clean-up project. I'm devastated to see that not much has changed with regards to the amount of plastic pollution floating in the water & washing up on the beaches of this island paradise. Please, please, please help to make changes by reducing plastic consumption & voting with your money. Our purchasing choices will make a difference if enough of us make the effort.

09.01.2022 Chagos - the final chapter of our journey and the full movie, which you can access on our website - www.oceanswithoutlimits.com These were pristine seas.. as fa...r as our eyes could see. Until we saw more. The Chagos Islands seemed to be a picture postcard paradise - which is what you’d hope given that they lie within one of the world’s largest Marine Protected Areas, containing a vast and rich coral ecosystem. In fact, at 640,000km sq, it is one of the largest protected areas of any type (land or sea) on Earth. Landing here in a place so remote and buffered by protection made what we saw on the beaches feel all the more shocking and disheartening. Chagos was overrun with plastic, (no) thanks to pollution pushed indiscriminately across the Western Indian Ocean from South East Asia. We couldn’t possibly leave without cleaning up what we could - but it felt like we barely touched the surface. Beach clean-ups are undeniably a responsibility that rests upon all of us, but the flow of our waste keeps on coming. What we do at the end of the plastic line is not the solution; critically, it’s only what we do at source that can stop this choking of the ocean. We need to turn off the tap!

09.01.2022 Faces of #PlasticFreeJuly: meet Astyn (@allaboutastyn ) from Arizona in the USA who is doing the challenge for the third time. "In 2017 I worked with students ...who were passionate about the environment and it's inhabitants. I watched them make small easy changes to their daily life and listened to them talk about the huge impact made when many people do lots of small things. In 2018 I participated in my first Plastic Free July. I continue to live and showcase my sustainable lifestyle because I hope to plant the seed in others that my students planted in me. I hope to be a part of a generation of people leaving the earth better than we found it." Thanks for being part of the solution and making a difference.

07.01.2022 For those of us who still use these, Wasteless Pantry is now a collection point for recycling

06.01.2022 This is the lost art of ropemaking. And it looks like its future is in good hands! Lost Trades Fair : ABC Education

04.01.2022 Leftovers make great plastic free lunches, either in containers in the fridge for work (or home) the next day or freeze in reusable plastic containers or glass ...jars. Our friend Lindsay aka Treading My Own Path has a whole freezer full! To freeze safely wait til the item cools, make sure to leave a couple of centimetres headspace for the liquid to expand and, if you aren't sure, you could always leave the lid off until frozen. 02.01.2022 So true. I'm inspired daily by the thriftiness I see from fellow op shoppers, recyclers, makers and creative. Don't be fooled by needing the latest "trends". It's a very expensive treadmill you're unlikely to benefit from being on.

02.01.2022 For years, we’ve been told that recycling plastic means we're doing our bit for the planet. But, have recycling programs been designed to lull consumers into believing the plastic waste program was being solved? Monday night on Four Corners.
