If you havent tried these wines, do yourself a favour and find them. 2015 Zumma Chardonnay and Pinot both looking absolutely spot on and highlight the amazing vintage. 2015 Cri de Coeur Pinot is a masterclass on how to handle 100% whole bunch and will live for 20+ years without a worry. #postbycrawfs

17.01.2022 I ripped the top off of this @pikeswines Riesling last night. Has to be one of my favourite go to wines. Restrained with fine acid and plenty of natural fruit, this wine packs a lot of punch for its price point which is usually in the $22-$25 range. Great, financially responsible drinking. #postbyrowey

Crisp, dry, clean, limey with great fruit intensity. It’s still very young and I think it will go the distance over another 15 years. #postbyrowey

09.01.2022 Doing some further market research prior to CHARDONYAY. Tonight its the 2017 Flinders Bay Humpback Chardonnay. The grapes for this wine were sourced from Karridale in the southern part of Margaret River. The wine was fermented in primarily French Oak and has undergone no Malolactic fermentation. A very textural Chardonnay while still being very mineral, lemony/limey in style. Still a very young wine which will improve over the next couple of years. A great example of cool climate, modern Margaret River Chardonnay. #postbyrowey

There are the clean, un-oaked styles from Chablis, the crisp and zesty styles of modern Margaret River and Tasmanian Chardonnay and of course some of the full bodied, oaky butter balls that Aussie Chardonnay was once known for. 06.01.2022 An interesting Chardy on the chopping block tonight - the KWV Mentors 2011 Chardonnay from the western cape of South Africa. South Africas wine reputation has been rapidly improving over recent years, and this wine is a great example of why. Made from fruit in the Elgin district, it is a region that is cool with cold winters and low overnight temperatures making it ideal for growing Chardonnay. The cool and often windy conditions result in slow vine growth which leads to some fantastic lime and elegant floral notes. From a winemaking perspective this wine was barrel fermented with wild yeasts and experienced 10% Malolactic fermentation. Overall a great wine, complex and stylish but very much in that restrained, cool climate style. #postbyrowey
