25.01.2022 This morning, after a hearty breakfast, we meandered their way down off the Maguli Range into the Nauro River valley. We saw several gun pits can on the western side of the track. We then negotiated several hours of what can be a slippery swampland track until we crossed the fast flowing Brown River. A steep ridge line often referred to as The Wall confronted us and led us up to a mountain pass from which there are views back down to Nauro, and then it was on to the beautiful village of Menari. Tomorrow we head for Naduri. If you would like to follow the groups progress, please click on the link below: http://share.findmespot.com/shared/faces/viewspots.jsp

23.01.2022 Day 6 on "The Track". Today from Naduri, we pushed on over Mt Bellamy, the highest point on the trek at approx 2100m. We passed through an ancient forest of Antarctic Beech trees and Giant Pandanus. (Phosphorescent fungi lit up the night jungle and provided the soldiers with an eerie environment during wartime.) As the group crossed over 1900m, Kevin pointed out the site where we discovered four intact Japanese skeletons in 2008. We then worked their way down the track and in...to Kokoda Gap. There, they reflected on the ignorance of General Mac Arthur who instructed the Australians to blow the gap to prevent the Japanese entering. (The gap being so wide that the request was truly ridiculous and showed the lack of understanding of the area on his behalf). The next section of the track was one many ‘diggers’ believed was the most difficult section of the track. They were exhausted from continual fighting, lack of sleep and often wounded. We then continued on along Eora Creek to Templetons Crossing and found camp for the night. After today's efforts, we are all a bit tired and looking forward to a good nights sleep There was heavy rain on the way to eora creek, the group had a very slippery decent but all ok. A few of the group made a side trip to myola tbh, site of biscuit bomb. Follow the link to see where the group is currently ! https://share.findmespot.com/shared/faces/viewspots.jsp

21.01.2022 For some of the most spectacular scenery in the world, join us on one of our many treks to Nepal this year..

16.01.2022 Day 7 Templetons Crossing was an important defensive position during the withdraw from Kokoda and many Australian lives were lost here. After leaving camp we traversed many ups and downs before making our way to the original village site of Eora Creek. This was a hotly contested site during the war and many trenches and weapon pits are still obvious. It was here that the 39th, who had earned the respect of the AIF (Australian Imperial Force) in the battle of Isurava, were as...ked to act as rear-guard and destroy the bridge crossing the Eora crk whilst the 2/14th and 2/16th created defensive positions further along the track. Unfortunately, due to village politics, T a side-trip to the Japanese defensive position where remaining artillery shells were scattered around the ground was not possible. We then climbed steeply up to our campsite at the Isurava Battlefield camp) The memorial at the Isurava battlefield site is truly an emotional experience and as we reflected on the gallantry, courage and sacrifice of our soldiers we remember our own experiences along the track. It was here that Bruce Kingsbury was awarded the first Victorian Cross to be won on Australian soil.. The group currently have weary legs but only have one more big day of trekking to go! Even Paul enjoyed the ice cold shower today. If you would like to follow the groups progress , click on the link below. http://share.findmespot.com/shared/faces/viewspots.jsp

14.01.2022 We have just received word that our group has reached Ioribaiwa Ridge! The group set off at 5am this morning to make up for an easier day yesterday and did well up over Imita Ridge in great time. Everyone is doing great and handled today's hot weather well. Ioribaiwa Ridge was the furthest most point of the Japanese advance. There are spectacular views back over todays route. Mark and Chris have been spending time playing with kids in the village. We will enjoy the fantastic... view from our camp with the sun setting, cuppa in hand! 14.01.2022 Today we commenced walking towards the village of Efogi and onto Naduri. This is a long day on the trek so an early start was required. The route took us to Brigade Hill where we held a memorial service in honor of the men who lost their lives here. After a short narrative our team members took part in a Remembrance service. The remainder of the day was spent negotiating the steep section of track to Naduri. Today was another 10 hrs of hiking and the group are again quite tired but in good spirits. As usual, our local carriers/boys did a fantastic job of keeping spirits up with songs and laughter. Aaron and George have everyone laughing and elder statesmen Glen and Merkury have been showing the way. 12.01.2022 What an Unforgettable Adventure to Annapurna Base Camp. Great group of trekkers, lots of fun and laughs. Cultural immersion, Nepali dancing, spectacular scenery combined with the physical effort required to reach our goal made this a most memorable experience. 11.01.2022 Day 8 After an early start this morning from Isurava, we were faced with a long downhill trek of almost 7 hrs.. Interspersed with a few Ups just to remind us its not over till we hit Kokoda Village. Lots of emotion, handshakes and hugs.. We Made It!! The group were greeted with a traditional welcome by the villagers. ... Thanks to our awesome team of Porters and support staff, without whom, the trip would not have been possible.

09.01.2022 Today John Akhurst is 100 years young. John was a sergeant with the 39th Battalion in 1942. Its been 76 years since the men of the Australian Infantry Battalion went on their march through Papua New Guinea, with virtually no training; they were young, inexperienced and carried totally inadequate equipment. Between July and August, in 1942, the unit was heavily engaged in the defence of the Kokoda Trail, preventing the Japanese from their aim of capturing Port Moresby, on the...n, Australia. Such was the 39th Battalion's involvement in the battle that by the time it was withdrawn, the Battalion could muster only 32 men. Unforgettable Adventures founders, Kevin Mansfield and Dan Vanderzalm have had the privilege of meeting John on several occasions and were instrumental in taking him and Alan "Kanga" Moore back to Kokoda in 2016. We wish John a very happy 100th birthday. See more

08.01.2022 After an early rise this morning the harsh reality of today was the steep mountain climb over the Maguli Range. We climbed over several false peaks before reaching the top of the range at 1253m. We then followed a long down hill over more false peaks to the village of Nauro, home for tonight. This village is perched in a spectacular position on a narrow ridge line with views out over the Owen Stanley Range to Mt Victoria. The old village site was located close to a swamp and during the war; a group of Australian soldiers became lost in this dark and waterlogged swamp and had an uncomfortable sleep in waist deep water. Today was a 10hr day and we are quiet tired but in great spirits. Sheryll has been busy conducting Yoga and Kev has been spotted with a mortar. More photos to come!
